  • A simple little mayfly dun, that not only represents a blue winged olive but just with a little change in size and colour can be made to represent many other small mayflies.

That really is the perfect example of the fly tyers art. Bravo! I have to say, your occasional near 'whoops' moments are what give we mere mortals small rays of hope.
The downside is that you cost me a small fortune is 'newly essential' materials. My bank manager would like a word with you - and several with me.

What is the point of using CDC for a wing that is never supposed to touch the water?

Hi, I couldn't agree more it's a bit redundant used this way, but its a well known pattern and I try to hold myself to the original pattern.

Barry I always struggle with parachutes. In all the years I have been tying I have never seen a hackle tied in this way! I have tied it off on a horizontal plane but never restarted the thread! Is this something you developed yourself? I think this will be my favorite parachute hackle method!!!

Hi Kerry, thanks, it's always easier when you know how! It's a technique that I have been using and developing for at least two decades, but originally i don't know where I got the idea from... I started doing it this way to avoid tying the hackle off behind the hook eye and messing with the thorax.
