I bought this watch for a specific purpose. I work in a power station with very loud machinery all around me. Sometimes during plant down time, I have to crawl through small manholes to access the insides of tanks, platforms etc. This watch is great because it vibrates on your wrist letting you know you are receiving calls or messages when you cant hear or feel your phone ringing/vibrating. The tough build of the watch protects it from slamming onto heavy metal objects like ladders, handles etc. If you work in a rugged environment then look no further. This watch has been serving me for 1.5 years now and its still tough as hell.
Hey TPM, I know it’s been a long time from your comment, but seems like you were having it to work as intended, what phone were you using it with? Thinking of buying it for similar reasons you state
Finally found an intelligent and meaningful review!!! Thank you very much for being the only one having brain here on youtube with these watch in hands... :-)
TechTechTV Bought. Great gadget. Just one question. Is it normal that illumination (when triggered) sligtly blinks when bluetooth is on? When BT is off the light is constant...
Little update for you guys. I have one of these and it works perfectly well with my LG G5 on Android 6.0.1. I'm using both the G Shock and Bluewatcher 3rd party app and I've managed to integrate things like tasker to give me useful notifications. For example i have a task that sends me the temperature and weather every couple of hours
I have one of these but in the all BLACK model, love it! I have owned it almost 5 years on now with the ORIGINAL battery, cannot fault this G Shock its awesome! I did have an iPhone 6s connected to it and it was a little limited to the notifications and it did continue to lose its BT connection which could be a little frustrating but other than that it's solid as a ROCK and it's coped a beating as I work in a trade industry. Thinking of picking up another in the All BLUE as it is a sexy looking beast.
Finally found an actual review of this watch! Thank you so much for that! I've been thinking on getting it for a while but I never found a source that can actually talk about this watch objectively. But I do have one question, as I was looking in forums to see if my LG G2 is compatible I never heard anyone say that the Gshock app needs to be open in the background, are you sure that it is needed? Because this will be a real turn off :/ thanks again :)
That blue one is sharp. The G shock ones definitely don't do what smart watches can with apps but like you said none of the others are 200 meter waterproof. And it doesnt have to be charged like the others.
Hey guys just as a heads up, this watch is actually compatible with any Android phone so long as its running Android 4.4 on it. I have a Samsung Galaxy SII SGH-I727 that I rooted and put CyanogenMod (CM11) on it now I can pair it with this watch, its freakin' awesome! P.S. dont know about iPhones as I have never owned one, sorry :(
Thanks for this. Does the app need to be kept open in Android as well? it sucks with iOS it needs to be open as iPhone batteries are pathetic enough without apps hanging open in the background!
+Lex Ellis (Lex Arcaro) I'm afraid I don't know as I haven't tested this with an Android phone. Keeping the app open is one of its biggest weaknesses which is a real shame.
Ah, I want one but I think I'll pass, so glad I watched your review, I feel Casio are being a bit "sleazy" with these watches not giving out a lot of info on them and such.
Wish it was worked with my Samsung S6. I even called and they don't even know when they'll update the phone list. Feels like they dropped the ball on this.
***** It took them months to release an app update for compatibility for the iPhone 6/6 Plus which frustrated many users so I wouldn't hold your breath about future S6 compatibility. It's a shame because it's a really good watch but maybe Casio didn't sell enough to make it worth putting more work into it. They've not really released an updated model to this and it's already been out for a few years.
I'll call them back and ask. The last time I talked to them they stopped updating it completely and she said to just return it. If they said I can, I'll buy it again.
What do I do when my battery dies on the watch? I just bought one used and i never know what will happen so if there is anyone who knows give me a heads up :D
+Kevin Do It's possible to replace them yourself, but it's probably better to get it done by a pro. That's what I will probably do as I don't want to take the risk. The watch will give you plenty of notice when the battery is low and will continue to work without bluetooth functionality for a while before the watch dies completely.
I'm having the same issues with iOS 9. Every time a new iPhone comes out it takes Casio a while to bring an update out that will allow the watch to work with the phone.

How's the battery after almost 2years tho? Did You have to change it already?
Haven't changed it yet, but I don't find myself using Bluetooth often so it's still going.

kocurstvo Nevermind, seems normal and kinda indicates BT activity... :)

eganzale Thanks for this. I didn't know that. Casio could do with updating their website in that case because they don't mention this.

+James E Apparently you can send it in for a module upgrade to have it support Android 5.0
I'll call them back and ask. The last time I talked to them they stopped updating it completely and she said to just return it. If they said I can, I'll buy it again.
***** They said they're no longer updating the app?
That's what the girl said when I called. She told me I'd be better off returning the watch and get my money back. Which I did.
What do I do when my battery dies on the watch? I just bought one used and i never know what will happen so if there is anyone who knows give me a heads up :D

+TechTechTV I just got my watch and I have an iPhone 6 plus running iOS 8.4.1 and it won't connect. Do you know anything about it?
I'm having the same issues with iOS 9. Every time a new iPhone comes out it takes Casio a while to bring an update out that will allow the watch to work with the phone.
