    I own a 2000 that I bought new. I still love it, especially the sound. Also the fuel injection has had zero issues in 19 years. It runs like the day I brought it home. Thanks for the video.

    Just bought a really clean year 2000 yellow bog stock 750ss off the back of your video Phil.....I fancied dipping my toe into Italian bike ownership without breaking the bank. Agree with everything you say matey, horrible in town, rock hard ride but keep the engine over 4 grand then the personality of the v twin comes through and makes for an entertaining ride.... Certainly not a beginners bike but I'm really pleased! 😉👍....... Another great vid by the way..

      I owned a carb 900ss and a 750ss, both great bikes. Preferred the 750, not as lumpy, felt lighter and has a wet clutch so none of that bag of spanners noise on tickover.

    Best review I've seen of this bike, thanks. Don't know why people are so afraid of italian bikes, I've had a 2stroke Aprilia for 12 years and it still runs amazing. Maybe I'm just lucky.
    I'd love to own one of these, would make for a perfect couple with my supermoto.

      29once thanks, appreciated. Yup, Italian bikes are perfectly ok, I think problems stem from the owner more than the machine.

    Bought a 1998 one of these two weeks ago. Has been sitting around for a while before I bought it. Replaced fork seals, belts and brake fluid. Great fun to own and so long as you keep up with the maintenance it's a lovely piece of kit. Good review.

    Very good video. Got to love the sound of a Ducati and the sound the clutch makes is spot on. Always wanted a 916 but like many turned to the more reliable Japanese. Might in the future invest in a 916 or something similar as a track bike.

    • @PhilOsGarage
      @PhilOsGarage  7 лет назад +1

      Apex-Moto thanks! The best bit is that the video captures about 10% of the real sound, gets you right in the chest. The 916 is a great investment right now, but you need to be careful, a wrong'un can be a money pit!

      @@PhilOsGarage Thank you. I am not getting any drive despite having engaged the gear, I am able to cycle through the gears up and down. Also the bike will not idle as soon as I take the choke off. Any ideas of what could be causing this and what the possible fix could be? I would like to try and fix it myself.

    Great video. I have a 2000 900ss and love it. I found your opinions to be spot on about owning it. I've put about 30k miles on mine and have very similar opinions. I have a sargent seat on mine and it has made a world of difference. I found most repairs are fairly simple and have youtube videos to help. What year is yours? I didn't catch that in the video.

      DuKati 900ss thanks for the comments. Mine is a 1998, one if the very first injection models. Fantastic road bikes and a great example of how reputations are often completely underserved. I rate the 900ss as one if the most reliable bikes out there. Enjoy your bike, and revel in knowing the truth about these great under appreciated bikes.

      @@PhilOsGarage Hi thanks for the encouragement.
      On first appearance, the black version with dull grey rims (on offer to me) isn't exactly what I had in mind in recent months. But as it's coming with guaranteed MOT, service, low mileage all for roughly £2000, I thought i'd grab it while I can and maybe eventually part exchanging it for a modern jizz-machine after a year or two. I haven't done my lessons yet, so it will be my first over-125 bike and so i'm going to rush my lessons through in the coming weeks.
      Just one question, if I did end up deciding to keep it long term, are front fork upgrades as easy as they theoretically should be? For instance, although Ohlins do not have forks made explicitly for the bike (from my understanding), there would be some with maybe the correct or at least a shim/shave-able length/diameter. I know aligning the brakes would likely be the bulk of the issues, but I wonder if I would even get that far.
      But then again, maybe I shouldn't modify what will soon become a collectable in its own right and instead focus on restoring it back to its full showroom glory.

    Hey nice video and great review. I have the same bike but notice the engine runs so hot after 45 min to 1 hr and I only rode it during the fall. The temperature gauge stays at 3/4 range constantly. Do you have that issue?

    • @PhilOsGarage
      @PhilOsGarage  4 года назад

      Hi, thanks for the comment. If the engine is running hot, try changing the grade of oil, the handbook has a list of different oil grades for different temperatures. If in doubt your ducati dealer can advise. I'd also try cleaning the engine earth point and temperature sender connections as a poor connection will cause the guage to read incorrectly. Mine used to read between 1/3 and 1/2

    Best modificamodification l did on my '93 900ss, was to replace the earth lead and positive lead from battery, starter relay and starter motor to a larger dia cable. The increase in cable size means less electrical resistance. Thus when the bike is hot and therefore the wiring hot, the larger cables make starting a breeze.

    Harsh riding position? I bought a brand new one in 1998, stuck a tank bag and soft panniers on, and toured the fcuk out of it all round Southern Europe! I rode it back to back with a 1997 GSXR600. Now that WAS a harsh riding position. I sold it with 38000 km on it because my wife threw a wobbler after I got my knee down in the Pyrenees with her on the back. Stupid mistake. If I'd have kept it together, I'd still have the bike now.
