I vote No! I originally had my DVDs and Blu-rays mixed together with each other, but I recently separated my DVDs from my Blu-rays. I have all of the DVD's alphabetized in one section, and all of the Blu-rays alphabetized together in another section. I feel that it makes the shelves look much more cohesive and nicer looking!

No! I keep mine separated. They’re all in the same room though. My blurays are all together. As are my boxsets. I keep my Criterion Collection discs together and have one shelving unit specifically for 4Ks. I was recently thinking about making a section for my Arrow and Synapse discs. Just go with whatever works best for you.

YES for mixing, I’m so strapped for space so I put everything in alphabetical order. VHS DVD BLU-RAY & 4K although if in the future I have more room to utilize I would separate horror from everything else, I don’t like that Day Of the dead is in front of Dawson’s Creek when I want it right next to Dawn 😂😂😂 #physicalmediaproblems

Day Of The Dead in front of Dawson’s Creek 😂 yeah horror is the only thing I for sure will keep separate. I think I’m going to mix everything else though. Still on the fence about Steelbooks though.

I keep my DVDs separated from my Blu-ray and 4K movies, partially because of the case size and partially for frequency of watch. I do separate a few things like my Hitchcock, Star Wars, and Criterions.

Yes: I put all my Scooby-Doo together and all my Star Trek and Star Wars together and all my Addams Family movies and television show together an all The Munsters together an all the old black and white Universal Monster movies together with the rest of my monster movies and all my Christmas movies together and Wrestling together and all my highlander movies and television shows together regardless if they are dvds or blu-rays so when I go looking for a certain dvd or blu-ray or box set I can find it or them

Some Bluray boxsets are the size of a DVD case, so I decided to just mix them. It's actually worked out better for me, easier to find stuff.

If you really have a problem with the heights of them, you can convert all of your blue rays into slim cases and then get some blue card stock to put behind them sort of like you would’ve seen back in the day at blockbusters or Hollywood video. Plus it would save space in a 7 mm case, no trimming of artwork on a blue write necessary

Okay so I have all of my Disney DVDs separate and put in stock number order.
All of my signed media is on a shelf for display and all of my Criterion Collection releases are with all of my Box sets and large gift sets.
All the rest of my DVDs and Blu-Rays I have in these little tote squares and they are organized in the following way:
    A Lettter DVD then A Letter Blu-Ray,
Seasons sets are together, but if I have a bunch on DVD and then a bunch on Blu-Ray then they are separated, but still in numerical order, and like someone else commented DVDs of characters like Scooby Doo are all together in no specific order.

I have deep shelves, so I am able to put blu-rays in front of my dvds. I know some people don't do that because they don't like the way the dvds look sticking out the top of the blu-rays, but hey, you gotta do whatcha gotta do lol I keep all my horror movies in one section, except for some special labels like Scream Factory and Arrow. I keep them on a separate shelf. I keep all my other types of movies in a different section. Boxsets and tv shows have their own section as well and all my movies are aphabatized in their sections. I'm not against mixing formats, but I think it would bother me the same way it does you. But like you said, it's just something you got to get used to.

Recently did all formats together. This was to eliminate DVDs that I had on Blu-ray out of the collection and made me remember some movies I owned on DVD that I don't necessarily need to upgrade. I would only seperate if your tight for space as some shelves you can get an extra 1 or 2 rows due to height of cases. But for ease of finding a film it has never been easier. I also have 4Ks and HD-DVDs mixed A-Z with DVD and Blu-ray.
Also put Box sets in the A-Z like Rambo is in R. Use to keep them separate only ones are multipack films they go at the end of the alphabet.

I was searching for exactly such a video. I'm a budget collector and only collect stuff i haven't seen or movies/shows/books, that i feel i NEED to have out of nostalgia or love for the product. I often wait quite long for discounts and i buy most stuff second-hand.
*Now to how i order:* I used to order them alphabetically for years, but now i order them by category and each category is split into sub-categories/franchises (and yes, i mix Blu Rays and DVDs together, because else a series or franchise would be incomplete and in some categories there are movies and shows together if same franchise).
    My example:
*#1 Action -> divided in sub categories: stand-alone movies, all Fast and Furious movies, all Transformers movies* etc. You get the idea
*#2 Anime* -> divided into subs, ordered by different franchises (Dragon Ball, Digimon, One Piece, Pokemon)
*#3 Sci-Fi* -> divided into natural desaster movies, monsters, space/aliens
*#4 Monsterverse* basically the old 1998 Godzilla and the 4 modern monsterverse movies
.. AND SO ON AND SO FORTH 😊

I've always intermixed my DVD's and Blu-ray's together. As long as for example Star Trek The Wrath Of Khan on Blu-ray is with the other Star Trek movies some on DVD I'm happy.I know I'm probably in the minority but I like to find something quickly with ease. And they really don't look untidy either.

  • @truthfilter

i would NEVER mix Bluray's with DVD's the aesthetics of it would annoy me i like uniformity i won't even put a bluray with a slipcase next to a regular Bluray i keep all ones with slipcovers separate, and the only DVD's i collect are movies that haven't had a Bluray release, i keep some genre's altogether like Horror section, scifi section, martial arts, then all the rest is randomly together , i keep my Arrow Blurays separate too, but yeah in my opinion i wouldn't mix them it won't look good

Yes if it works for the display. Personally, it was TV shows that made me not care if they are mixed anymore. There's a lot of TV series that start out as DVD then go to Blu-ray then back to DVD again (like The Simpsons for example). I just gave up and started mixing them.

@@Absolutesublime1 Yes Sir. I'd rather go right to the film I'm looking for rather go down a checklist of format, genre, boutique etc. Just much easier for me.
I get how some boutique titles that number there slip covers look better when they're all together but it's the sacrifice you make for the quick lookup.

  • @hiphoplover1974
    @hiphoplover1974 2 года назад

Yes, I definitely keep all of my collection separated by format and genres.
My steelbooks separate from Blu-rays with or without slipcover if it's a complete series then all together in order, same with steelbooks, Dvd separated, VHS separated, Arrow and Criterion are also separate as well as the various steelbook editions like Manta, Filmarena, HMV, Zavvi you get the picture. But they're all in one whole room. Box sets are also separated now those I have separated by size regardless of format. on those I have Dvd and Blu-rays mixed together according to size. All tins are also separated some by size as well, like toxies sets and bunch others. Funko are all together same room but separated by line, rides, towns, movies etc...
So yeah, I know that might be too much for some but that's how I do it and it's not difficult at for me to get to something. Mostly is all labeled by genre and I just look for whatever within it. A bit time consuming in the beginning but good in the long run.
If you're leaning towards separate I suggest you make a layout of what genres are going where and what formats are going where as well. I found myself shifting everything twice before how it stands for lack of not having a proper layout and the entire space I was working with.
That's my take on this subject. Good luck!
