New South African Subscriber here, the native language is throwing me off a bit but i'll learn, I will binge watch the other episodes because the show is very informative about Zim Arts and Culture. Its crazy that we are neighbors but I don't know any Zim artists except Shasha & Oliver Tuku...I didn't know Tich Mataz was a Zimbabwean and he worked at my local Radio station here in Mafikeng😭🤣 I'm learning a lot🤙

In terms of creating a unique contemporary zim sound there are people who tried it but they ddnt receive enough support. Winky d did an album ine song yainzi Sungura like, when i heard that sound i thought he had struck gold but zvakazongofa zvakadaro. The song 'Before' by Poptain has a nice sungura guitar that i cant get enough of. Nox has also tried to fuse sungura in some of his beats. Tanto Wavie is sitting on gold with his trapsu but he is not receiving support from his fellow artists,or maybe he has monopolised the sound but yakubhowa just hearing the same voice. I wish the whole hiphop crew ana holy 10, voltz, sainfloew could hop on a trapsu beat. More to that, I wish our zim producers would come together and create a unique contemporary zim sound infusing that sungura guitar and we push it the way amapiano was pushed

Absolutely enjoying this interview. I was also at the ExQ/Nutty O show in Germany 2 weeks ago. I think promoters also play a role in pushing our artists' music. We need better organized international shows. I feel like the Germany promoters did not do a good enough job in advertising the show to non- Zimbabweans. Germans are very curious and fascinated by African music and they tend to attend shows out of curiosity. Furthermore, the concert was poorly organized in terms of when the doors opened, the time the actual performances started. It should be a combined effort from the artists, managers, record labels and promoters as well.

I respect Plot's thoughts, very constructive. I just have a different view about issues raised on Winky D, Banda, Engagement and Stuff. I think people has different values in life. I believe these guys are friends who discovered their strengths and talents as they grew. And some people respect the friendship bond so much that no amount of money and followers can come in between. Secondly his formula to the way he does his things is best known buy himself. To me the guy puts a lot of hard work to his music and performance more than anyone else. He does the unexpected and it comes out great. As a small county and the numbers are small. Winky D's best is yet to come trust me guys. We haven't seen anything yet

1:03:16 Is an honest observation a lot of people do not see. Jah love was the artist of the decade and Roki's time was already up. Artistry aside Jah Luv had social capital always giving us freestyles from peoples lives' and so on. We understood him and thats why we could look past him not attending shows. Now as for Roki he had too much personal drama but we did not give him the same pass even now.

Artists can try to make music from the genre but the genre itself will not change. Zimdancehall will always be a foundation of current and future music.

I like the points coming out of this discussion but what i have picked is the fact that as a people all we good at pointing out what we not doing and and actually not appreciating. I understand the initiatives pointed out by plot and the lack of subscriber support from artists but what we fail to see is that in Zimbabwe there are no proper business structures that support music growth. We dont have proper music houses that fund these artists and give them advances to allow them to focus on art. Most artists come from poverty and the moment they get money they get what they dream of. Ipapo tovati havana musoro. The music business scene in Zimbabwe is a hand to mouth business just like any other basa ririmunyika and the best thing you have to appreciate is with such a model you dream to fly. You dream to feed the next day. I believe our artists need to be praised and respected for the little mileage they have had considering the lack of resources. Unless someone or a conglomerate that is moneyed up takes the reigns this story will not end and tinoramba tichiti maArtists haana musoro haasi international. Appreciate what you have and grow it inhouse without actually comparing it with zvekumakwato. That is how you grow naturally without having too much pressure

There is tremendous raw talent and energy, but supportive gatekeeping functions are missing. Zimbabwean record labels have disappeared over the past few years due to piracy. The essential functions they used to play in the value chain - such as nurturing, promoting and distributing musical talents - are now neglected or undertaken by the artists themselves. This is not ideal from the industry perspective if we want quality music products.
