A lot of good points, but I think it's safe to say that Phobos was never the only force of evil the Veil protected us. Otherwise that would have been a short comic (which may have been intended, but an on-going franchise works better with the former).
For my fanfictions, I'd would go with the timeline that Meridian once was a free world, but then a teenage Phobos (already 15 or 16) was given some knowledge from evil sources that he used to make himself more powerful. Then he destroyed his parents and set out to join with evil forces from outside, before the Veil was created to stop him. During his reign, he used the planet's energy to blew holes in the veil, but only managed to do so before Witch was formed (and it was at least partly because their connection to Elyon).
Chykn and their predecessors never fought Phobos and Metamoor, but since it was still Arc 1, they were used as an example for the kind of threats that were sealed off beyond the Veils. It was never meant literally, but figuratively.
Your idea is intriguing! I forgot to add my idea that Phobos and Cedric opened those portals over time, what if Kandrakar didn't step in until they opened a portal in the right time frame/time period?
I investigated this for my fanfic, and I had to put the excuse of "the veil creates a time issue which explains why Elyon is a baby when the veil was raised and the old guardians were young" that is really confusinf

Honestly, this had me hooked. I just learned more about Phobos. I didn't expect to know that Phobos was the creator of the veil.
Plus, you did point out some things that connected with some entries from the W.I.T.C.H. Iceberg chart.
This honesty made me see Phobos in a whole different way. He could've been a way better villain than Nerissa if the original writers never left.

Also, Elyon spent 13 years on earth during his reign, but Elias can Dahl spent 400 years inside of the painting, so it could be safe to assume that time warps between worlds
tv show Phobos and Meridian overall have no indication of having a different time than Earth has. Only thing that tv show contradicts this is flashback of Yan Lin, Halinor and Kadma saving Zamballans from Phobos while being still young. Yan Lin is around 60 years old and Cassidy's mother is still alive and Veil was activated 13 years before the start of season 2. I think that Guardian forms not only ages the person to some age, but can also make them younger if they are too old. Basically Shazam and Black Adam situation from DC.
I forgot the show had it be 13 years ago, while the comic said 1000+ years.
@@digitalbloodlinesI suspect that there were multiple vails over Metamoor. No one ever talks about the times when the Vail was lowered since they were mostly peaceful. Just before Nerisa defeated the Oracle he was planning on raising another Vail around the fortress at the heart of infinity. There were probably times between Phobos' rule when the Vail was not needed much like Hitler wasn't always starting new wars.
Yes, the show went more grounded with this. Not to mention Yan Lin's age in the comics is so mystical idea that she is supernaturally old, while in the show, she is just regular grandma.@@digitalbloodlines
I only watched WITCH as a kid and never gave the timeline a thought but this video made me pro-Phobos. Guy was born onto a world where literally all the evil in the universe was dumped and managed to become the boss man at 5 years old, becoming enough of a threat that the cosmic council changed the fabric of the universe not to stop him, but just halt his reign of terror. Legendary.

I'm happy to see someone else has this theory because I always kind of have the theory that when Phobos was in charge time was moving faster for him and certain people of his choosing and meridian and maybe he was sucking the life force out of people aged himself faster and then when elian took over , maybe time started to move in a normal pace for everyone or maybe a day or two slower compared to outside of meridian's time like on Earth
As for Phobos is age I always assumed that when it came to him and how they put the veil up around meridian and you had to wear haylin grandma
Became a guardian this was my assumption back then Phobos was still five but then he got jealous of his sister he stumbled upon these roots that gave him power he noticed they gave him power it aged him up he offed his parents or made them disappear in around that same time elian was taken to Earth through a portal
And during that in between time do the time lapse or time flowing differently and how Phobos aged and how the roots magic probably began to affect everything else time on meridian was moving faster and during that time that's when Phobos is evil became aware by the council
And after that they put up the veil and picked the guardians that they had before the current guardians they've had multiple guardians before for different tasks but that's when we see Marissa's group as guardians during Phobos his rain
and during this in between time when Norris's guardians and Phobos were fighting that was in the past and while elian was getting taken to Earth in the portal it spent her out in a future time instead of a time that was parallel to what meridian had because time was slowing differently and that's why she's around the same age as Cornelia now caz the portal spitting her out at a future time

Thank you for your in depth response! It looks like our ideas line up pretty well. We know at least three groups protected the veil. The one in the veil lore images, Nerissa’s group, and our girls. Maybe only they were called "guardians of the veil" as a job title while it existed and maybe went by something else in other groups.
@@digitalbloodlines I wish I new I see this happen a lot with shows like I think I mentioned in my comments above a show I like called RWBY has the same issue where I can't tell the amount of time that passed one of the writers does cameos and he mentioned that about 8 months passed since season 4 airing in the universe of the the show because there were some fans asking about a character we all liked and asked how long he had been missing from home and he told us 8 months and we know that he's 14 - 15 as of now
Cuz this is also something I've wondered with the girls because when I was younger reading these comics I always assumed the girls will Cornelia and the others I thought will was 14 , terrnee and Cornelia or maybe 15 -16,haylin was 12-13 and that irma was maybe 14-15
Because when I was in school later on like between middle to high school that's what it was like in my grade where we had people do to win their birthday was people's ages were between 13-16 kinda and I could at one point I couldn't tell if the girls were in 6th through 9th grade in comic because at one point I was on a form for the comic back in the day and someone said that some of the girls were 12 through 14 so I'm like oh they're in Middle School
But then as the comic went on and as you'll probably see you in a later issue which I mentioned in a comment before I don't want to spoil it but it was mainly about Cornelia and everyone starting a new school year and stuff I thought by then they were in high school and I thought maybe they were sophomores to Juniors because we kept seeing them go back and forth to school I think maybe a total of 3 to 4 times I don't know I really do need to reread the comic I have a few of the books and the rest of it I read online so I do need to reread it and count the amount of time they go back and forth from school and maybe that will help me because
It was also like that with elyon where I remember someone told me that she was 12-14 and something about her maybe skipping a grade and that's why she was in the same class as Cornelia and to terronnie or something because I don't remember if we ever saw her in the same class is Haylin and Irma because I think they have the same class because they're just around the same age or something I can't remember
I don't know it's like I said I'm going to have to go back cuz I also thought that because she was from meridian I thought maybe she was 500 something years old but then at one point several years ago when I reread it I'm like oh she went through a portal and it zapped her out in the future so she's not 500 like her brother might be for all I know or he aged himself up in time is going differently between meridian and Earth , she really is 12-15
Because at one point I remember I had like several notebooks filled with stuff about the witch comics and show and I remember I tried to do a timeline thing and I was trying to get the ages of everyone right and I hate that when you watch shows they don't tell you the characters age and their birthday so you won't be sitting there confused trying figure it out
Even when I was 12 I noticed this glaring plot hole when reading the novelizations and I put so much brainpower into figuring it out for myself and I can't remember what I came up with but I'm most certain adult me would just poke holes in it for sure.

Theory: What if the Meridian royal family is evil by default? I mean...they do descend from a collonizer. And that's why Elyon was prophecied to bring light back to Meridian.
I know we've seen Elyon's mother being nice to her, but i don't believe we've ever seen her in flashbacks as a ruler.
Also headcanon: Phobos killed his parents.
Phobos for sure killed them. And yes its possible the Escanors were evil rulers anyway.
The Show hints at that too. Whenever Phobos speaks of their family portraits of normal people that distort into monsters are shown. Honestly, Phobos could be shapeshifting to look beautiful to hide his true monstrous form like the rest of the family and Elyon is the only human-looking one
What if Meridan and Earth exist in separate galaxies like with real-life planets so they're separated by both distance and time. So possibly because both planets are so far away, events taking place on Meridian aren't always taking place exactly at the same time as Earth, Phobo's could be ruling for hundreds of years on one side of the universe while Elyon is living a normal life for 12-14 years on the other. With this in mind time on Meridian could actually move faster than on Earth, and 1 Earth year is equivalent maybe to 100 or so years in Meridian. Portals could also act as wormholes allowing proper time dilation when traveling between worlds versus if they were to physically travel from planet to planet. Characters like the Orical and the Monks of Kandrakar who have cosmic levels of awareness/knowledge are expected to watch over multiple worlds in different parts of the universe where time might move differently between each so they could have a poor way of communicating a timeline of events that happen on multiple worlds.
I can't believe I hadn't considered alternate dimensions or galaxies or at least a time dilation from that. Even the rotation of the planet could factor in!
So I have grown up reading these novelizations of the comics (which also had a few pages of said comics at the start and end of the book) and the first 6 issues each came with a card about the girls. Will and Cornelia were 14, Taranee, Hay Lin, and Irma were 13, and I can't remember if Elyon was 13 or 14 on the card. I may have thrown a wrench into some of the theory, but it's also like 'wait if Will's 14 at the start of the comics, and her birthday is in January (all the cards had their birthdays (but not the years) on them and Elyon's on Halloween), cartoon Will's is somehow in the fall and she turned 13 in the show....ah f***, alternate continuity nonsense.'
Either way we're all tap-dancing when it comes to the timeline nonsense of this series.
W.i.t.c.h's greatest enemy is continuity.
That singular scene in the anime alone makes no sense and hurts my head to think about. I'm sorry, but at their age, you protected Zamballa from WHO? You mean his grandpa or at least dad right... no... WHAT!? Wouldn't that make him AT LEAST 50 or something!?!?!? Wtf? My head hurts with that one...

I think of the veil as a magical equivalent of a trade embargo, which, large nations like the US and Russia (Previously the Soviet Union.) have used in order to get their way, such as the Soviet Union using it to ensure that nations in their sphere of influence (Asia and Eastern Europe.) fall in line with their so-called "Communist ideology", and the US similarly did so in their own sphere of influence, Western Europe, as well as Latin America. This was used when Cuba turned Communist following the Cuban Revolution, which resulted in the US placing an embargo over Cuba, that still has yet to be lifted. Similarly, I think the veil was pretty much a thing on Kandrakar, but they haven't used it until then, and, once Phobos illegally took power in a coup (And also invaded Zamballa, which, may or may not have been part of Metamoor prior to Phobos taking power, similar to how Ireland is to Great Britain, but, that's not confirmed, and it's just my interpretation.), the veil was raised to cut of Metamoor from the outside universe, until Elyon, the legitimate ruler, could take back the throne from him, which, Phobos probably used as a way to legitimize his grip on Metamoor, using it as a way to spread propaganda about Kandrakar starting a conspiracy to take down a "popular leader", which is something real life dictators like Castro and Kim have used to legitimize their grip on their people.
Edit: Also, Yan Lin could easily just have faulty memory, due to her old age, and how using her powers make her age faster, especially since the heart is being passed down to another generation. We see this with Nerissa, and so, maybe the times they used their powers after the team dissolved might've in addition to physically aging her, also cooked her brain, and so she forgot about the timeline of when things happened. Older people in real life have this problem as well, so, we can just assume Yan Lin just misremembers how or when things happened. We can assume the Zamballa thing just happened when Phobos seized the throne, somehow at the age of five or ten, which is weird when you really think about it, but still, and Yan Lin just misremembered the timeline.
It seems like a lot of everyones theories in the comments are drawing from real life historical references to governments and military which is an interesting take. Poor Yan lin getting alzheimers.
Sounds a lot like time does work way faster in meridian. And the only way to keep elyon safe was to open a portal to the future? But it still doesn't explain how photos as 5 years old, Could kill his parents and rule like an adult. Why even did the original authors leave?

That is an interesting thought! I hadn't considered that. There is an interview I include in my 20 year celebration video that says they only intended W.I.T.C.H to be about 6 comics long. And he does appear in issue 7.
