Hey y'all. Thanks so much for coming back to another Budget Lawns video! If you're just getting started in lawn care and feel lost, don't worry. We've all been there. I think this video will help point you in the right direction as you get started mowing. Good luck this season!
Thank you thank you and thank you! We Just moved to our house; started my lawn journey 😅 find your page so now let’s see how it goes! Appreciate it your videos… new subscriber here
I liked the tips and towards the end when you were talking about how you reference your lawn…. I think of it being like an artist- it is your canvas. Like a painting. Keep up the great mowing tips!
Thank you sir.. I just found this video. Im a first season newbie grass guy lol. You confirmed some stuff I'm already practicing. I'm currently weed killing getting ready for my first dethatching, aeration, overseeding. I feel like you relate to my not being perfect but top 10% in town and only .5 notices 🤣
You bet. Welcome to the grass world lol. You’re right man, very few notice what we do and the ones that do think we’re crazy 😂. Appreciate ya watching and commenting. 👊
Thanks so much for simplifying things for us! about to get started on our new home. It’s quite bad, like 50 % covered with weeds. Already applied the spectricide ( will repeat at 6 weeks) , will do organic feed this week and get to mowing! Will continue to learn from you.
Right on. Congrats on the new home. Happy to hear these vids help. Sounds like you're moving in the right direction. Thanks for watching and the support.
Recently got the blades and bed knife sharpened on my Fiskars reel mower. Planning to use it all season. From personal experience, once your Bermuda thickens up mow every other day if possible. Otherwise you'll get your butt kicked with a manual reel mower. Forget about letting it get to three inches, then cutting off an inch. You could get a running start and not get through the grass. But it is definitely a better way to cut.
You got that right. You know your stuff! Once I get goin' with the reel this season it will be every other day for sure. Heck, I'm almost at that with the rotary, haha. But I'm a nut. Hopefully this will give those folks just getting started who think they can mow every other week a little guidance. Then they'll be taking it up a notch with us before too long. Thanks for your feedback and watching. See ya in the next one! 👊
Hey! Thanks man. Great to hear from you again. I know right? Those freezes last week zapped almost all the green I had. It'll bounce back fast. I'll be leveling again too. They didn't give us much to work with haha! Have a great season!
I was worried about my tulips with these freezes too. But I think they weathered through. Hope to see you out soon! Need to introduce myself....albeit 6 feet apart lol.
Awesome! Thank you. I prefer the straight to the point info format myself too. Glad you find this helpful! Thanks for watching & subbing. I really do appreciate it.
I've got one tip for that one. I take it to my local hardware store, and they do it for me. Plus I get to spend time talkin', shopping around and lookin' at cool stuff. Haha. Most people grind their own. It's just another excuse to go to the store for me lol.
When scalping how high should you set your mower deck? Also when scalping and should you bag? Most of my yard is weeds right now but I did pick up the post emergent spray you recommended in your last video. Just waiting for some dry weather to put out
I set my deck on the lowest setting possible. Wish I could go lower. Here's a video I did a couple weeks back with some basic scalping tips. ruclips.net/video/364SLpZBzv8/видео.html Yes, bag when scalping. Then wait on a little more green up and make sure you've got some good weed growth before spraying. It'll give more for the product to work on and increase its efficiency. Hope this helps. Thanks for the questions and watching. Appreciate ya!
Great Tips I have common bermuda grass what height should I be mowing it I am now mowing it at inch and half and I let It get two inches should I start mowing it at two inches and letting it get three inches before I mow I live in central Florida so it gets hot in the summer Thanks
Thank you. I appreciate that. I would keep it no higher than 2. Definitely wouldn't let it grow to 3 before cutting it. That was just a simple math example. Sorry if I came across the wrong way saying it that way. I would just make sure to mow 2-3 times a week and keep the bermuda around 1.5. Common likes to be between 1 and 1.5. You could always go lower but in the Florida heat that may be tough. Thank you for your great question and watching. Hope to hear from you again soon!
I'm trying to find different patterns in my mow. Unfortunately the trim pass is always the same. Excellent breakdown. I'm curious how reel mowing is going to change your process.
It's tough. Yeah the perimeter kinda gets its butt kicked all season. Thanks bud. I'm curious about the same thing. It's prolly gonna throw me off and take some getting used to. Can't wait to use it! Thanks for watching!
Good info again thanks for sharing ; how would you approach changing direction on a narrow parkway strip ? Mine is like 60’ x 3’ and would take a long time to go in the short direction.
Thank you sir. Glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, the narrow strips are a booger. I've got one between the street and the sidewalk. I try to keep it on the same rotation as the larger parts, but the unfortunate thing is there's not much you can do about the small spots. They just take a beating.
Cutting the lawn twice in 2 different directions. That’s tough in NM. Could be warm or cool season there. You’d just have to start looking online at different turfs to compare. Thanks for watching and the questions.
@@BudgetLawns another question when you mulch instead of bag do you rake what's on top or pull out the ole blower and blow in the clipping which is healthier for the lawn?
I just leave it alone. You don't have to do anything with the clippings after mowing. If your mower mulches them up like it should, they'll be very small. If youre side discharging, that's another story. Make sure your mower is a mulching mower and set to do so.
@@BudgetLawns ok at least I got that part right . Where the lawn is doing really good it's like walking on tall carpet I mean I'm a big guy and it's hard to fill the ground in certain spots and another thing I've look on here(internet) in a lot of places I have yet to match my grass ??? Its a fine pointed grass that branches out at the top. Has a long shaft between the blade and the root??? Can't find anything like that ? Thanks you are really helpful and you are appreciated for all you do !
Cutting the lawn with two passes when you mow. It's essentially mowing it twice. Either in the same pattern or two different patterns. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
Good question. Just let it grow back out a bit and then only cut off 1/3 of the grass each time you mow. Only the top part of bermuda is green, so you can't cut off too much at one time. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

☀️ Great tips, man! 👍 I used to be one of those “mow every 2 weeks in the same direction” when the kids were young. It’s game time now, baby!! ☀️

@@BudgetLawns My perimeter is the worst part of my lawn other than right next to the street. Overly compacted... it's tough.
@@DaddingAllDay Same here man!
I call it my "frame." Helps me accept it for the necessity it is.

@@Aerialphotovito You're very welcome. Always happy to help!
Just the Tip. Game I play all the time. PITTL!
haha 😂don't we all
Would you only suggest mulching if and only if mowing is done once or more a week?
I suggest mulching all the time. Unless intentionally scalping a Bermuda lawn.
What the hell is a double cut?
I just purchased this home.. any tips on how to ID what type of grass i have? I live in New Mexico if that helps.

You da man!!!!
Budget Lawns nah man, you da man too😎👊☕️

Do you trim and mow or mow and trim???
At the moment I mow then trim and edge. Depends on the time of year and mower I'm using. Appreciate the question! Thanks for watching!

Cutting the lawn with two passes when you mow. It's essentially mowing it twice. Either in the same pattern or two different patterns. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
What happens when I cut too low and now it’s browning ???? How can I fix this ??
