As a PT, I **SO** appreciate you talking about how flailing our bodies around isn't always the safest. Having worked at F45, this was part of my problem with them. I also love that you've found joy in lifting weights!
It's nice to see the way someone literally matures and looks back on everything in the past! And above all I am glad that you are satisfied with your current self and I am very proud of you for everything you're doing for yourself :)💗
I'm SO happy to hear you share the reality of getting older (I think we're the same age) and body pain, etc. feeling the need to move your body after the last few years we had stuck inside but grateful. And so happy to hear you talk about knowing nothing and being intimidated at the gym + sharing Dajan's knowledge with us all because this is where I and I think a lot of women are. I want the knowledge but never knew where to get it!
I just wanted you to know how inspiring your fitness journey has been for me over the last couple years. Seeing your attitude and mindset change towards workouts has been incredibly impactful on me. I tore my ACL/meniscus in the fall of 2020, and had to rehab all through 2021 to prepare for surgery, which I finally was able to get in January 2022. I spent all of last year being SO frustrated that I couldn't do the workouts that I could do in the past, and it really made me rethink my own attitude towards working out in the future. Watching your videos has made me very excited to continue my own fitness journey. I'm almost 6 months post op, getting strong every single day, and beginning to enjoy workouts more than ever before. I started off hating stationary bikes, and now I can't wait to upgrade my bike to do more intense cardio workouts once I'm back to better strength! Thanks for sharing ❤️ (also I know Dejan doesn't like to be in front of the camera very much, but I would love to hear his take on what goes into setting up a home gym, things he looks for, exercises he likes, etc.)
It has been so uplifting watching your fitness journey and seeing how you've become more aware of what your body needs. I personally am overjoyed with you talking about your love for strength training, because I LOVE strength training! Strength training changed my life for the better! I've been doing it for years, and I am still excited for every single workout, and to watch the active progress. I also cherish my workout book. I know it's such a simple thing, but it truly is so rewarding to see how much stronger you have become in such a short time span. You 100% will get those ripped arms if you keep pumping that iron queen! Ps. Your home gym is absolute goals.
So crazy realizing how long I’ve been watching/following along on your fitness journey 🥲 Something I’d personally LOVE is if you did a vlog style video of your workouts/meals in a week, even including cheat meals and rest days. Those videos are always so, so inspiring to me, and yours would be simply the best!
I so relate to all of this! Thank you for sharing your fitness journey. I, too, feel like lifting weights has changed my life and my self-esteem for the better. My trainer has me doing hip thrusts at the very beginning of my leg days, followed by squats (and variations), and then moving down to the smaller muscle groups as the workout winds down - that way you get the bigger muscle groups while you have the energy. Hope that helps!
You talk about fitness in such an eloquent way, I loved this video! I've been focusing on working out since 2019 as I have always been so weak, so I'm also trying to built strength and muscle by doing home workouts. I always stretch after workouts but I need to incorporate more stretching into my routine as I am just super stiff... I would love if you could show us your stretching routine in a vlog or recommend videos, as I need something to follow along. Have a lovely day
Love the update! It made me think about my own fitness journey over the years, and especially how much I miss personal training. It was so helpful to have someone else know your goals/body and what to watch for (like pointing out each time an old knee injury was messing up my form, or being excited when I was able to increase the weight on something hard or do something unassisted for the first time).
I loved your update and amazing job at being consistent and not giving up in this past year on your journey. I’m a constant on/off/group fitness/gym gal but I’ve been consistent now for a few months and it feels amazing. Thanks for the motivation to keep going! You look fantastic!!
I'm also a BIG class fitness person (did pilates nearly a 4 years of college), I loved the accountability, and also having the instructor there to make sure you're not hurting yourself 😅. But: I will say: the home work out scene really was a hard transition... and so I feel like I've yo-yo'd a ton. Would love to hear more about the mind shift and the self discipline for home workouts in future vids! 🙌🏻
As a personal trainer myself, I absolutely love this video. I love hearing women fall in love with weight training and getting strong and am so happy you have discovered that love, too!
Just realised I’ve been watching you for forever lol! Going through your fitness journey jogged memories of really old vids. I’ve suffering from really bad lower back/nerve pain and waiting on physio to help. My fitness really dipped during lockdown and it’s something I need to work on once things are corrected. Thanks for the inspo and reminding me how good exercising can make you feel!
I’m so sorry that you’re going through the pain it’s so ROUGH 🙈💕🙏🏻 hoping that the physio works their magic on you and you’ll be back at it in no time! 🤗
Yay! This made me so happy to watch. I’m a personal trainer in White Rock and I’ve been watching your channel since university days. I train all my clients in their homes and it’s absolutely possible. I’m SO HAPPY seeing you focus on strength training. It’s the absolute very best thing for your current and future self. Too many women are really missing out on the benefits of strength training, especially metabolism. It’s also such a great mindset to focus on strength vs appearance. You’re going to be so happy you started lifting as you get older! Muscle truly the fountain of youth. You just made my day 🤸♀️🤸♀️🤸♀️ I’m so happy for you!
I just loved this fitness update! I feel like I was somewhat on a mini-journey version of your experiences. My back is bad due to injuries so no running or bike riding for me. But after I purchased my treadmill I've been obsessed! I'm on a 449 day streak of using it for 50 minutes every single day since we set it up. My husband started using it too after seeing me doing it every day. LOL. My goal is to do more weight bearing exercise to help stave off issues with possible future bone loss (I'm 61). Anyway, thanks for sharing this Lan.
I’m so happy to hear you talk about this so nicely! I can’t believe how long I’ve been watching 😅 I’m so proud of you and the mindset you have about fitness! It’s inspiring! ♥️
Really enjoying this update, have gotten I to strength training this year as well! Would love to see what all the exercises and stretching you do for the different muscle groups in a video in the future :). Could definitely see the gains in your beautiful beach outfits in Hawaii 💪
I’ve been around for many years. I remember watching everyday May and the charity rides and Equinox! I remember it all. I’m a huge fan. Never miss a video! ❤️❤️
I remember you being at the beginning of changing your mindset about workouts, at that point I was so consistent with mine, and now it's the opposite, I'm currently trying to find what works the best for me, as I've been going through the same thing as you with the group workout classes - it always ends up with me having back pain after a certain period, and just being sore all the time, even though I'm constantly active. I'm happy you found what's working for you, it really shows how much you are enjoying your gym life! ❤️
So happy for you Allana! I've been on a similar fitness journey and strength training has been one of the most gratifying experiences of my life! Recording my lifts has been a huge part of that because there's evidence that I've improved. If you feel that your strength is plateauing I really recommend the strength training guides from Renaissance Periodization. You can pick your exercises for each muscle group based on the equipment you have access to and it tells you how much to lift when so that you can keep your body from being desensitized.
Loved this, super informative. You mentioned your stretching and warming up routine. I'd looove a video on this. These are the hardest things for me, I never have a fix routine and just let it slack sometimes. :))
Just starting to watch and I’m SO excited because I love fitness content and I’ve loved all your fitness vids over the years (little peaks in vlogs included!)
If I may... it would be awesome if you did a "try out a new activity" series. You can try running outdoors, rock climbing, bike riding, swimming, etc,. Does that sound interesting/ feasible or even fun? haha! Also, next time you do outfits of the week, maybe include gym fits, too? (Because we're all nosey and seen your cute GymShark x Whitney Simmons fit) lol :) Thanks for all your hard work always & especially during Everyday May, you're awesome :) Cheers!
I’d love to see you do a basic for beginners for push, pull and leg days. I’m really intimated by the gym and I’d love to see a start point because my gym membership is going to waste 😅 your progression has been amazing and it’s really inspiring ❤️
I’ve been waiting for this forever! Y’all’s home gym is literally my dreammm I want one so bad😂 I would really super love and in depth vid on the individual exercises you do for your push/pull/leg days! I know you’re not a professional but I’m such a newbie and I have the exact same problems you do, with my hips and back so it’d be super helpful to hear what you do! Or at least some of your favorite professionals/fitness peeps on the interwebs that you follow💕
Love this update I appreciate that you did not include any before and after photos because fitness and intentional body movement should be first about how you feel and enjoying the routine of it. All too often other videos focus so much on the look of fitness but not the mental health and emotional impact ❤️ thank you for being so inspiring & showcasing a healthy perspective on fitness
I wish the focus was more on the healthy incorporation into daily life and not on GET A SIX PACK RIGHT NOW lol like don’t get me wrong, I would love to have some visible abs and biceps 😂 but to do that in a healthy way, it’s such a sloooowwww journey, if they even appear at all!!
Health weeks!!! I remember those! I still do your peachy butt body weight workout on the regular 😂 I think I’m a forever low impact body weight only/home workout kind of gal, but so fun to see you learning & evolving! I do think I’ve taken my eye off the ball in pushing myself and trying to achieve things fitness wise, the journal idea is really cool! This might push me to push myself hehe!!
Yah, you can tell you've been sticking to a regime....it shows. Good for you Lan....I remember in the beginning, lol. I agree about the treadmill, they really are great. Thanks for sharing your journey gym gal 🥰
i am that person who if you bring up weight lifting, i will go on a 30 min TED talk about how strength training changed my life and is so good mentally for me and on and on and on.... i've done mine mostly with a personal trainer which is so much money, but its what makes me go and its an investment in future health. to say one thing, compared to cardio, i really get joy out of the control i feel in making a number go up (how much i can lift) vs a number thats very hard to control go down (the scale). i never knew you were in pain around the spin classes and watching you made me want to go so much but now i will be more aware of what to watch out for and pacing myself. thank you for sharing
this was so helpful and incredibly relatable for a real life fitness journey, intrigued about treadmill, i still love our peleton especially with the introduction of the lane break series, kind of gamifying cycle! Thanks for sharing 😊
Hi Allana, I’m on a similar journey and have experienced major hip and lower back pain too, so I wanted to point out the channels Upright Health and Squat University if you’re not already aware of them. Really interesting stuff about how important it is to strengthen smaller stabilizer muscles like glute medius. Has helped me a lot to continue working out with way less pain!
As a fellow gym lover the 1 most essential progress making movement for upper body *for me* is taking a core (think the moves you go heavy on, not accessory muscle movements) movement such as a shoulder press and making it a drop set exercise instead of a classic like 4 sets of 8-10 reps. I truly saw such defined shoulder caps and biceps within weeks of making this change
We have both the peloton bike and tread. Got the bike first. 100% feel the same way, I LOVE the tread and running. Never thought I would. Classes are amazing 💖
Lan, have you ever thought of doing a video on stretching? Surely after all the exercise classes you've taken, you'd know a heap. I would be interested in knowing what exercises you do for hip pain because sometimes I get the worst pain in my hips and it would be great to know how to prevent or relieve it.
I randomly discovered Caroline Girvan through one of your videos at the beginning of last year and I have been HOOKED ever since. I have never been so consistent with my workouts and I've made so much progress. I too dislike flailing my body around but luckily my knowledge of exercises (I'm a physio assistant) allows me to modify things when needed!
Thanks so much for this video, Allana! Loved hearing about your fitness journey! Congrats on getting to where you are today!! 💪💪 I’ve had a journey myself (also have hip issues), and have to agree that regular strength training is so important. It has been life-changing for me as well. Keep up the great work! And, take good care of yourself during Every Day May!
Love!! I’m so glad you’ve shared an update! I have been following you for a long time, I have been Moro eyed by you through spin etc. I wasn’t into sweating at all lol! I did spin here and there but never felt I could keep up but I did love it! The pandemic REALLY helped me find my love and passion for exercise since it gave me something to do! I started with GFit Wellness’ Instagram lives during the lockdowns and then started at the gym! I built so much confidence and love for the gym, made new friends, and lift heavy! I never thought I would be lifting 4 plates on each side for hip thrusts! And now I’m bodybuilding and won my first bikini bodybuilding competition and going into Nationals in Toronto in august! I thank the pandemic because I never thought I would find my passion!
At the end you mentioned seeing a professional for your workouts! I started with GFit Wellness and they are Canadian and have coaches all over Canada! My coach Chantelle Harvey is in BC and she makes my workouts and meal plans! She is amazing but they have several other coaches! 1000% recommend them!
When I was working with my trainer we did push, pull, and what she called butts and guts day lol which was legs and abs. It helped a lot by putting core into my leg days. It made it more enjoyable and gave me a little break in my leg workouts
Thanks for mentioning the importance of stretching! I’d love to see what you’re doing as part of your stretching routine. Do you do it before/after every workout? For how long?
Hi there! This journey of your has affected your videos in such a great way! You can wear clothes and put makeup and that can get you quite far but nothing beats feeling good on the inside to make everything else shine! This is the secret sauce and thank you for sharing!
I love your honest journey update!!! I always thought Im Phoebe from Friends and cant run and now love it for almostt 3 years :))) Could you share the people and class examples you do from YT to steer me, what equipment min to start with or can I use my body weight and how long ar your workouts? I'm here forever girl looooove your updates :)))) so happy for you!
Thanks for this highly motivating video! If I may say, I think the biggest game changer here was that little notebook. It is always so empowering and inspirational to actually see the progress, and that’s what’s keep you sticking to the routine. You are so right about not wanting to share your specific moves but I really was looking forward to share a workout with you…would you be so kind to perhaps share some of your favorite yt trainers and fitness influencers?
Watching this while doing my morning treadmill walk before work! Low impact independent workouts from home are my jam too, especially now during healing from combo powder + microblading sessions.
Love this video! Very insightful as a fitness beginner, you´re very inspiring 😃 Would also love to see your pre- and post work-out stretching routine. I´m about the same age as you and can definitely notice the signs of aging in my body 😅
Most ppl opt to put all the compound movements at the start of the workout as they demand the most and thats when you have the most energy in theory. I find this works best for me too. Hipthrusts, deadlifts squats etc. This is also why I split my glute and quad days so I'm not doing too many of the big demanding movements back to back.....you might find you dread leg days less if you try this???? Xxx
I’m totally with you about the f45 type workouts. I’m focusing on lifting and zone two cardio and it has truly changed my body and mental health for the better. Renaissance periodization has some great lifting programs, Dan probably is familiar….good stuff.👍
This was such a great informational video. As someone that doesn’t do well working out on my own (but will do it when I have to i.e., weather), I have a personal trainer where we workout in a group and this has work wonders for me. Even on days (everyday it seems) where I feel like he’s pushing me too hard, I really appreciate him (don’t let him hear me say that 😂) in the way he tailors our routines. For example, Monday and Thursday are legs days which includes running; Tuesday and Wednesday are chest, triceps etc., which I love ❤️. He also gives us monthly challenges which I also hate but do them anyway, last month being 30 push-ups and 30 squats and as much as I hate push-ups by the end of the month I could do 30 push-ups straight (still hate them tho 😂). But now with summer on us, oh the arms and legs definition are real and popping.
You recommended Heather Robertson a couple years ago and I have been doing her workouts since and am in the best shape of my life so thank you very much!!
If you’re ever keen for group fitness but want something more low impact and strength based i’d recommend Lagree West in Vancouver! It’s great cuz goal is to go as slow as possible (so no flailing about) and is still a seriously good workout!
So glad you’ve discovered strength training. I’ve been preaching the gospel of strength training for years, it’s the only way to truly recomp your body!
I also just started getting into resistance training and going to the gym and I realized that my ultimate fitness goal is to have bulging shoulder muscles 💪 😅 you go girl!
You should do your compound movements such as hip thrusts, squats, bench press, dead lifts, and pull up at the beginning of your workout. They require multiple muscle groups and a lot of energy. If you place them after other smaller isolation movements you will tire your muscles and not be able to produce the amount of true strength you’re capable of in those exercises.
I did the heather robertson 3 month challenge and felt like I was in so much pain all the time (granted I was adding peloton walks and runs onto the program)!!! I too then realized it’s quality of quantity! Gotta do what’s right for your body 💜🖤
@@emmyslichta9053 I really liked it but am someone who works out 3-4 days per week vs 5 so getting in those extra days was tough! But she incorporates a lot of different workout modalities (weight, hiit, yoga, etc) so it has a nice variety. I did feel very strong after!
Not sure if they are available in Canada but the Future app is great! I did a partnership with them last year and they were amazing to work with. But the trainers all are virtual and they build routines based on your goals. They also give you accountability. And they can track and help you make tweaks with the app. You need an Apple Watch but they provide it as well if you don’t have one for the duration of training. It’s also great when you’re traveling because they can help you come up with workouts for the places you’ll be.
As a fellow fitness aficionado I absolutely loved this! Could you please do an actual whole body strength workout for us pretty please? 20-30 mins is fine LOL. Always looking for new ideas...
Is there an F45 near you now? I love F45 and have a peloton so I do a bit of both. Sometimes it’s so just more motivating to be in a class. But your set up at home is definitely more equipment that I have at home!
Can you share the miracle stretch for the piriformas muscle??? I have this problem and have never found a solution! Share you magical stretches please!
Same same same I changed my lifestyle and finally found my kind of sport this year - and that’s ZUMBA )) it’s so fun yet so sweaty and active I LOVE IT Also changed my diet to more healthy food What can I say? Such a blessing - i lost 8 kg, my body looks and FEELS better, my mood is better Before I found Zumba - any work out was like a torture to me. That’s why I’m fat 😂😂😂✌🏻 Thx Allana❤️
Hello Allana!!! It is always so fun to see your videos!!! Love your spirit and personality 🙂🤩💜💜. Love this topic, it is so good to find what motivate us to keep up with active lives.
I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOWARD TO THIS VIDEO EVER SINCE YOU MENTIONED ABOUT DOING IT!! Please be willing and reconsider to share photos of your gym journal entries so we can see examples of your workouts please ? 🤩🤩 it would be so so helpful!
When you said you moved to Toronto in 2018 I was like uhhhh I thought that was like a year ago 😵 I’ve started doing more low impact workouts too and it’s sooo much easier to motivate myself to do it compared to the high intensity exercise
aww I remember discovering you after you collabed with Estee and she mentioned you going to fitness classes! 🥰 I would 1000% recommend you to check out Fitnessblender workouts (on YT, they have printable versions of all their workouts) -- they are so knowledgeable, no-frills, offer tons of different training styles (including strength), and build their workouts so cleverly! can't recommend them enough.
I loved this video! Fitness is a forever journey and totally feel you on not knowing that to do and just finding the right fit of excerise because you don't want it to feel like a chore. I also want boss biceps, definitely inspired by Jen Aniston 🤣 Someone that's really helped me understand fitness more is Eric Roberts, he does Tiktoks, podcasts and videos that literally teach you everything you need to know, he's great!
You talking about your workout history made me realize how long I've been watching you... Girl I've been here forever ❤️
Same! I'm like oh wow I've been here through all of this ❤️
Me too 😎
SAME lol
Thanks for sticking around bb 🥹💕 we are literally growing up together it’s so fabulous LOL
@@allanaramaa I'm sure a lot of us (myself included) are about the same age as you, so it's been fun always having a friend "around" when needed 🥰

I’d love to see you do a basic for beginners for push, pull and leg days. I’m really intimated by the gym and I’d love to see a start point because my gym membership is going to waste 😅 your progression has been amazing and it’s really inspiring ❤️
I love that I was like nodding in agreement of your timeline of workouts like yes that's correct 😂 I'm an OG
Thank you bb 🥹💕💕
i am that person who if you bring up weight lifting, i will go on a 30 min TED talk about how strength training changed my life and is so good mentally for me and on and on and on.... i've done mine mostly with a personal trainer which is so much money, but its what makes me go and its an investment in future health. to say one thing, compared to cardio, i really get joy out of the control i feel in making a number go up (how much i can lift) vs a number thats very hard to control go down (the scale).
i never knew you were in pain around the spin classes and watching you made me want to go so much but now i will be more aware of what to watch out for and pacing myself. thank you for sharing
this was so helpful and incredibly relatable for a real life fitness journey, intrigued about treadmill, i still love our peleton especially with the introduction of the lane break series, kind of gamifying cycle!
Thank you! I have had intense hip pain, I will also check these out.
Thank you for giving us this update! I hope one of the Lanmas videos will be another progress report for where you are then. 💗
I admire your dedication…and it’s so nice to see you mature over the years!
Love watching your excitement about your progress! It’s so motivating!
BUTTS AND GUTS LOL I LOVE THAT!!! Taking note from your trainer 😂🙏🏻🙏🏻
Thanks for mentioning the importance of stretching! I’d love to see what you’re doing as part of your stretching routine. Do you do it before/after every workout? For how long?
Absolutely love this video. Thank you for being so open. ☺️
Please do more fitness/health related videos!! Love seeing your journey
Thanks for the inspiration! Long time silent viewer! Love your videos! Where is your workout notebook from?
Love this update! So inspiring 💗💗💗
not me looking for treadmills… knowing i have little to no space for it… but space we shall make! so motivating hearing you speak! ❤️
Cheers to meee!!! And thank you for sharing of course 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Any recommendation of what brand or where to buy kettle bells? Thanks for all your great content in your videos!!!!
Okay but I’ve been loving these late night uploads, you’ve become part of my morning skincare routine❤️
Good morning bb 🥹💕☀️
You recommended Heather Robertson a couple years ago and I have been doing her workouts since and am in the best shape of my life so thank you very much!!
Yessss her workouts are AMAZING 🙏🏻 so glad to hear that you love them too!!
Same here. Also Caroline Girvan whom you recommended. My arms are getting into shape for the first time🤓
Hellooo! This sounds like my journey! I’m a year behind! I am going to buy a journal today. Thank you for the tip!
I love my Peloton!!! It has helped my workout journey so much too!!! 💪🏻
Yessss! Welcome to the running fam! 🏃♀️ 👏👏
❤️❤️ you are killing it!!
I also just started getting into resistance training and going to the gym and I realized that my ultimate fitness goal is to have bulging shoulder muscles 💪 😅 you go girl!
I think we started strength training at around the same time! It's such a different way to exercise, totally life-changing
You look phenomenal! Such an inspiration!❤️
Would you recommend that program??
I really love your shirt. I love the treadmill. Had to sell as we moved. I want it back. 😬😬❤️❤️
Always turn a negative situation into a positive situation.
As a fellow fitness aficionado I absolutely loved this! Could you please do an actual whole body strength workout for us pretty please? 20-30 mins is fine LOL. Always looking for new ideas...
Can you show us some of the stretches that helped you? I do a lot of spinning and I am in pain right now (I don’t stretch enough either 😳)
Same same same
I changed my lifestyle and finally found my kind of sport this year - and that’s ZUMBA )) it’s so fun yet so sweaty and active I LOVE IT
Also changed my diet to more healthy food
What can I say? Such a blessing - i lost 8 kg, my body looks and FEELS better, my mood is better
Before I found Zumba - any work out was like a torture to me. That’s why I’m fat 😂😂😂✌🏻
Thx Allana❤️
Can you do a video showing the moves you do for each strength day?
More fitness content please! Would love to see your favorite workout clothes too!
I really like the peloton strength classes too.
Hello Allana!!! It is always so fun to see your videos!!! Love your spirit and personality 🙂🤩💜💜. Love this topic, it is so good to find what motivate us to keep up with active lives.
💕💕💕💕💕
I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOWARD TO THIS VIDEO EVER SINCE YOU MENTIONED ABOUT DOING IT!!
Please be willing and reconsider to share photos of your gym journal entries so we can see examples of your workouts please ? 🤩🤩 it would be so so helpful!
When you said you moved to Toronto in 2018 I was like uhhhh I thought that was like a year ago 😵 I’ve started doing more low impact workouts too and it’s sooo much easier to motivate myself to do it compared to the high intensity exercise
Right 😂😂 time is FLYING girl!!
As you talk about all of your changes in workout I realize I have seen all the changes. I wish I had your discipline for working out.
You need to try the 12-3-30 workout on the treadmill! 12 incline, 3mp, for 30 minutes. So hard!
A ray of sunshine.
In one of your vlogs from Hawaii, I noticed how strong your arms looked!!
aww I remember discovering you after you collabed with Estee and she mentioned you going to fitness classes! 🥰 I would 1000% recommend you to check out Fitnessblender workouts (on YT, they have printable versions of all their workouts) -- they are so knowledgeable, no-frills, offer tons of different training styles (including strength), and build their workouts so cleverly! can't recommend them enough.
I love the peloton treadmill too, particularly Adrian’s live dj classes. He makes them so much fun
Noted 🙏🏻🙏🏻 need to try his classes thank you!!
I love Beks ❤️❤️
Wow, this video was really fun and interesting!!
I loved this video! Fitness is a forever journey and totally feel you on not knowing that to do and just finding the right fit of excerise because you don't want it to feel like a chore. I also want boss biceps, definitely inspired by Jen Aniston 🤣
Someone that's really helped me understand fitness more is Eric Roberts, he does Tiktoks, podcasts and videos that literally teach you everything you need to know, he's great!
