Woman, child in hospital after vehicle collides with train in Hamilton

A woman and two-year-old child have been taken to trauma centres in stable condition after their vehicle collided with a train in Hamilton’s Rosedale neighbourhood Wednesday.
Police were called shortly before 2:30 p.m. for reports of a collision in the area of Cochrane and Hixon roads.
Officers say first responders removed the woman and child from the vehicle.
Hamilton EMS Supt. Dave Thompson says paramedics transported the child to a pediatric trauma centre in stable condition, while the woman was taken to another trauma centre in stable condition.
Cochrane Road is currently closed between Dunkirk Drive and Lawrence Road as Hamilton police investigate.
People who live in the area warned that it is a dangerous railway crossing.
“It’s bad they try to beat the train. And they see the lights and they think they can just pass on through. And sometimes acts like this happen, but sometimes people do get through. It’s bad. They need boards across or something because it’s dangerous.” said one resident.
“It’s terrible they need the bars across. Like so many kids have to come down this way home from school and run across cars don’t give a toot.” said another.
Cochrane Road remained closed between Dunkirk Drive and Lawrence Road for several hours as Hamilton police investigated, but it has since re-opened.

No sympathy, mom intentionally tried to beat the train. Train won, story over.
Installing the arms won't make a difference either, people drive around them to beat the train. The only difference is that they make it take longer to cross the tracks.
