Macro lenses are brilliant, they open up a whole new world in botany. I’m a bit of a tree and flower guy and I don’t leave the house without a magnifying glass (when I do leave the house!!). Due to our size and the way we perceive time us humans subjectivity experience only a thin slither of reality. There is so, so much more to see with magnification and time laps technology. I’m currently taking pics of tree buds and their leaf scars through a 20x hand lens, it’s low tech but it does the trick!! Thanks for another informative vid Mia🍄
Oh wow, intarsia. Thanks for the horizon broadening there. Might come in useful. In fact thanks for all the knowledge you’re sharing. Interested people are the most interesting people for sure. Keep it all coming!

Found a few grassland mushrooms near Edinburgh a few days ago, we had some hard frost at the start of Dec but it's been really mild the last couple of weeks. Barely any other mushrooms about though so I'm enjoying seeing what you've been finding!
Really enjoyed the video as always. I've spent a good amount of time in England and I miss walking in the forests over there. Liberty Cap season is over here in cold British Columbia but cool to see that they're still sprouting in good old England. Happy New Year to you!
Wow! “That mushroom” this late? I thought once there’s been a couple of frosts it’s game over. But as you say it has been mild and maybe not enough prolonged frost.
I wish I had the balls to collect my own mushrooms when out n about but I just know with my luck I’d collect the wrong type 🤷🏻♂️so I play safe and buy them off the shelf . My question is do they taste different or is a mushroom a mushroom ? If I blind folded you and cooked several different types would you be able to say what they are from the taste ?
Flavours definitely vary from species to species! some are fruity, some have a strong umami taste, some meaty some not etc.. I could differentiate them, sure, but won’t be able to tell you species’ names necessarily… i’m not a tasting expert 😆
@Florafunga thanks for the reply … a rather annoying answer as this now makes me curious as to trying different mushrooms/flavours and I think I need to look into this more : thankyou( will get back to you from my hospital bed later in the year )
It is when the new year in nature begins; everything wakes up and it’s the start of new beginnings 😊.. I just don’t resonate with a ‘new year’ starting in the middle of winter; a cold dark hibernation period!
@ah, yes. Makes sense that. Hence the name spring I suppose. In Welsh spring is Gwanwyn which is related to the word gwawr meaning dawn. Makes sense as well. I like our word for autumn as well; Hydref, which is also used for October. Two elements, hydd = stag and brêf = bray. So Season of the stag bray. Nice old language that is communicative with nature. Shame it’s nearly extinct. Like nature itself. Sigh.
