I really love these drum synthesis videos, this kind of stuff is really fascinating to me :D
Yo holy shit I'm glad I found your videos I've been blindly playing around with sytrus for years without knowing wtf I was doing lmao!
Not bad, sounds believable!
I was just about to synthesize toms for my next track. This is great!
i came here so early that youtube didnt even finish proccesing 720p
+Geoxor I know right haha :D
sXsKidd
yup :D
I just saw rick rubin meditating in the advertisment, Now that was awesome!!
11:02 That actually sounded kinda sick
Thank you!
Yay! More drums tuts pls! :D
I would like to create a drum synth that competes with MicroTonic, the main difference being that you can choose from many drum modules, so there could be "Sine Kick" module or "Distorted Dance Kick" module, "Noise Hat" module "Chiptune Hat" module, "FM Click Tom" module like the example you have, essentially any number of specialized drum modules that help you create percussion sounds from scratch quickly. And including tons of presets as well as useful preset loops organized into genres. Whatever it takes to create an inspiring synth percussion bed quickly.
Also, ability to layer drum modules to act as a single module and you can have any number of drum modules of any type in a "synth percussion session" preset. So 5 kicks if you need it. Also, the ability to key map the modules (map drum modules via velocity too? is that overkill?) for pitched percussion or to allow you to use it just as a plain old synth.
I wish I had more money so that I could give you more money
+Sprangeful Just watch my videos without adblockers on, if you've got adblockers ;p
I appreciate your appreciation all the same :D
Fuck yeah dude thats whats up
What are the order of sacrifices I will have to make to acquire such magnificent beard potency?
Also cool video, I guess.
while it looks like a beard, its not.
Those are waveforms growing out of his head
+Pepe Kebabo Sine waves :o
+WiFiConnection1 sub-beard
Just one question: I think the pitch of realistic toms drops farther the harder it's hit. So a soft hit will sound very near the final settled pitch and the harder the hit, the higher the pitch starts and slides further down to reach that settled pitch. Is there a way to link velocity to pitch slide amount?
Anyway, super helpful video. I managed to get what in my opinion is a more realistic tom sound with only two oscillators: one for tone, one for click. I actually never used FM.
Instead of doing that weird unison business to get the perfect fifth, I just used the fourth harmonic (2nd Oct) to act as the fundamental by turning it all the way up and turning down/off harmonics 1-3, then pitching whole thing lower so the fourth harmonic is where the fundamental used to be. That way the next higher harmonics (5th, 6th, 7th) fall between the next (3rd) octave and by mixing those harmonics in, the drum gets a bit more rumble. Then I very softly threw a few more higher harmonics above that.
I thought your click was a bit thin and didn't have that punchy sound of the stick smacking the drum. My click/smack was basically a really groany distorted square-saw shape with several osc harmonics and some added noise to mask the unnatural distortion sound. It has a deeper, mid-rangier tone that creates a nice smack. I used a pitch envelope to create some movement so that I didn't have to lower attack time to keep from hearing oscillations before the volume silenced.
I then routed: Osc 1 > Out & FX (Reverb); Osc 1&2 > Filter 1 (BP) > Out & Next to Filter 2(SVF) > Out & FX (Reverb). Finally, I put some EQ on Out & FX. It sounds pretty good like that but in the mixer track I further EQd and convoluted it for clarity and a better sense of space. Thanks for the initial guidance.
Gooood, thxxx!
Can you reshare the Synth presets?
Tutors like you are so good at things but why is that you all are not at the top like Hardwell, Tiesto and all? Is it because you chose this way or something else? It keeps me wondering. :\
It is just a innocent doubt. No offence or disrespect. I respect you guys and have disabled adblock :)
+harshit gupta Being good at making music and being super popular as a musical artist are two entirely different skill sets. One is about making music, the other is about marketing.
+SeamlessR also being good at music it's a very relative concept
He chould call this how to drum :)
Sounds like fucking popcorn (my bad if it's actually good. iPhone speakers cut at around 500hz
Ikr
Why are you watching music videos on shitty speakers?
+Richard Lionheart and then complaining?
+Richard Lionheart music videos k. because toms aren't pure sub, the overtones are generally what can define the sound as a tom, if that fails then it's not a very good sound
edit: on my headphones it does not sound good either. popcorn toms confirmed
