I saw this happen on a golf course about 15 years ago, we thought the stoat had no chance given the size difference but we were proved wrong.

Pound for pound, mustelids are probably the most savage predators of all mammals. Felines are probably more efficient killers, but for sheer ferocity, the weasel family wins. Honey badger is quick example.

If you think about it, if he chases one of the still ones, they will obviously start running too. Which means the Stoat will use more energy. Thats why they continue chasing the one they already started chasing. It's pretty common sense.

Most prey of stoats that are larger than them, like rabbits, die of shock, not getting their spines chewed through. Stoats don't have super long canines or fangs, but they are vicious, and their bite hurts a lot. So, think more death by pain induced heart attack.
labobo Nope, if it was a large predator that needs to eat a lot more, or a pack predator then yes they would. But a stoat is a predator that needs to only catch one rabbit to feed itself.
