his rocking side was more well known....but he was known for his astounding perfect putch and angel like tenor as well - there is really no equal to Elvis in talent, looks, humor, etc...A very, very high expression of the human species.

That was Frank Sinatra, America’s most popular crooner, who introduced Elvis. This show was a pivotal moment for reforming Elvis’s image after returning from his Army service in Germany, with the 40’s star putting his stamp of approval on the next star. They did a duet in the same show, which served to assure America that Elvis was not a hip-wiggling Satyr who would cause their daughters to drop their drawers.

I have been listening to Elvis since the 60;s, There is no doubt he was at his peak from around 60-62. his relaxed vocal range was immense. Notably its "Now or Never" which was his beat seller in the UK and I believe his favourite. Many of the albums around the early 60s were magnificent. His voice changed towards the later 60s and early 70s still light years ahead of everyone.

Great reaction Remember he is much younger here coming back from the service. His voice does get deeper closer to the 1970's

To really understand Elvis when he's singing a song is the fact that Elvis is the only artist that sings the song the way he feels it. Nobody else has ever done that before or since. It's just another reason why Elvis won't be equalled

This is honestly one of my favorite live performances from Elvis.
    Probably in my top 10.
In my top 5, is a live performance from 10 years later, "Just Pretend" live 1970 Las Vegas.
BTW: In 1960, Elvis was 25 years old and this was his first and only tv performance right after coming home from his 2 year stint in the army. (He served overseas in Germany.)
Also: Elvis was a lyric baritone. I can't remember if I already made mention of this or not. So this is just a casual FYI.
Thank you so much for reacting to this one and a thank you as well to whomever requested it!
    Peace & blessings 💕

To be honest I really would've love if elvis sang more like this at the time of his young life showing more vocal going from deep and low to high and smooth pitches because it sounds really good.

This was 1960, shortly after Elvis was discharged from the Army, having completed a two-year stint in Germany (1958-1960). He is 25 years old here. He had already completed four movies between 1956 and 1958, and was now ready to embark upon another several years of films.

So what you're saying is he has a fantastic range, deftly moving from deep to high with ease. He had a throaty vibrato which suited these softly sung songs. And he hit every note love, no sign of modern auto tune needed 😊

You should watch the colorized version of this.
You suggest his voice is watered down, but you don't realize that he's using his voice to caress you, he's singing romantically, as if he's whispering in your ear.
This is the mark of a good singer.
He conveys the message appropriately based on the song.
Sing softly when it's warranted, it's almost seductive.
Other songs he's singing with opera like power for example a song like "You gave me a mountain."
But then that's not a romantic song.
It's like comparing apples and oranges.
Thank-You for the reactions and the review!

Hi. Nice video. You should listen to the master take of this song. You can hear the crispness and the passion he put on it. As he did to all of his songs. By this time of his life, his voice changed to a softer, smoother and very velvety sound. Very different from the rocker of the 50's style that he was.

Hi! Great reaction. Note - His "chest voice" - is the result of what Elvis later admitted was EXTREME nervousness . Why? Because this Frank Sinatra Show Appearance - was his very first performance in front of a live audience and a national television audience in 2 years after serving in the US Army. After being out of the public eye for so long he was just hoping he'd still be well received. He was. God Bless you and your reactions 🙏

@ Venice Magic ; 1st This was Elvis - age 25 years old - first live performance - 1960 - since he came back from his military service since 1958 . 2nd : Elvis got $ 100.000,- a huge some of money for that time to appear and only sing 3 songs ! Today it would be $ 750.000,- a sum nobody got that kind of money . 3rd; Frank Sinatra was the idol of the 40's = WW2 generation and was embarrassed by the reaction of the mostly female audience when he said he wanted to sing a few song when he knew everybody was there to see Elvis and as you heard they screamed the moment Elvis stepped out of the corridors . 4th ; Check out the medley Frank Sinatra & Elvis sing together during that same show = medley of Love me Tender / withccraft . Also "Stuck on You. " with the moving in tuxedo. The Tv show is called : Elvis Timex Special .

    • @gorse9030

Very true but his voice radically changed through the years more than most artists. Basically IMHO he wanted to be recognised as a 'true' singer and not a rock 'n roll shouter. Charlie Hodge said he did vocal exercises when they were in the army to increase his range and do songs like It's Now or Never.

That was Frank Sinatra's show. You must know what are you reacting to. Frank Sinatra, The Real Boss, was the most important American singer of this time. He just had John F. Kennedy elected and was in the top of power.
