  • Here's a band that you probably bought stuff from right when you were getting into metal, but you most likely don't listen to them as much as you should nowadays. Let's see what we can do to fix that...

    I saw them live in 2019, were totally ferocious. And they've aged well, Piotr looked like some kind of old death metal wizard.

    Waiting for Vader part 2, damn if they aren't just reliable good death metal. I need to play at least one track every time I'm at the gym.

    Bought Litany when it came out and thought it was amazing. Worked my way backward from there, for some reason never checked out a ton of their more recent stuff, but liked what I did hear. Great episode, can’t wait for part 2 🤘

    I always loved Vader. The early stuff is great but I thought they got better with time. Impressions in Blood is my personal favorite by them.

    On point once again...first heard Vader back when The Ultimate Incantation was unleashed, and totally agree such a monstrous back catalog and slaying still on the live front. This old banger loves yer channel, hails from New Zealand!

    Brett "Incoherence Is My Middle Name" Stevens used to sing praises about De Profundis and then did one of his trademark one-eighties stating that only The Ultimate Incantation is worth listening to. If it wasn't for his WASP supremacy schtick, would any of his flunkies take him seriously?

    • @conormccracken5767
      @conormccracken5767 25 дней назад +2

      The anti Irish thing always seemed bizarre to me. As if you could even tell the difference between an American of Irish Catholic descent and a WASP nowadays haha. That being said ANUS and Brett Stevens probably deserve a reevaluation as they were such a staple of underground metal in the early to mid 2000s.

      @@conormccracken5767 How dare you question the supreme wisdom of the capitalist, monarchist (🙄) nihilist philosopher kang! He was able to dazzle nascent metalhead teenagers with his writing ability until they went to college and took Philosophy - Intro to Logic 101; after that, they laughed their asses off while cringing that they ever took that charlatan seriously. The middle-aged nitwits that still follow him are wood chipper material not worth considering.

      Hell, I remember way back in the day he liked them up through and including Litany. Funnily enough he was actually the guy that got me to listen to Vader way back when with an old article called "Is Death Metal Dead?" or something that was about Vader's Sothis, Deicide's Once upon the Cross, and Hypocrisy's Fourth Dimension. I don't think it's up anywhere anymore though.

      Brett Stevens has a lot of very bad takes. Death metal after 1994 is supposedly all bad. Every USBM band is also supposedly bad. He is wrong about Wrests Leviathan as well.

    Man, I'd love to see you breaking down other classic death metal bands from poland like Betrayer, Violent Dirge, Parricide or Mortal Slaughter
    There's a bunch more, but those would be sick

      Definitely one of the best countries for old school death metal. Lately I've been listening to Hazael, Dragon, Betrayer, Damnation, and Violent Dirge a lot.

    If I've learned anything by listening to Fenriz's Darkthrone commentaries, it's that if you combined Vader's Necrolust, Celtic Frosts' Morbid Tales, and Mayhem's Live in Leipzig inside of a vacuum chamber, you'd basically end up with A Blaze in the Northern Sky. I think people tend to get so obsessed over unique and unorthodox forms of death metal, that they neglect bands like Vader that just provide album after album of meaty, hard hitting, god damned death metal. But on the subject of the literal OPPOSITE of that, what do you think of Appalling Spawn/Lykathea Aflame? I remember seeing their metal archives page and just assuming they were some fruity early 2000's fad band that all the tech death nerds were into, but upon actually listening to it (especially with Appalling Spawn), they have some really cool stuff going on underneath the gimmicky shit. Great work as always!

      Funnily enough I was actually just listening to Elvenefris a couple weeks ago. It's always kind of been an album on the periphery of things for me ever since I was a kid, probably because I got into death metal through Nile. Lykathea Aflame and Appalling Spawn are definitely pretty cool stuff. Also, Tomáš Corn is a madman. Going from Lykathé to Maniac Butcher and then on to Cult of Fire is one hell of a story arc.

      I think most of the albums acclaimed on MA are very good. Though they memoryholed lots of positive reviews for GBK and the Slent for political reasons. And there are quite a few albums that are overrated on there. Such as Krisiun and Vital Remains, which I would call good second rate death metal. The reviews on that site I think are about 75% accurate. Lykathea/AP are amazing. One of the best brutal dm bands, which is generally a boring genre.

    Dude, you're reading my mind. Just came off a vader binge and thought of commenting that you should cover them. Speaking of early polish dm, ever heard Hektor? Their 1989 album The Inner Dementia is some pretty good forgotten death/thrash with some slight grind/godflesh-esque(?) influences mixed in. Don't let the AWFUL cover fool you, it's worth checking out imo.

    • @radiofreeinnsmouth1337
      @radiofreeinnsmouth1337  24 дня назад +2

      Haven't heard of them, but it definitely sounds interesting. I've been listening to a lot of the more obscure older Polish stuff lately, mainly Dragon and Hazael.

    • @olafsternik3337
      @olafsternik3337 24 дня назад +1

      Hell yeah, Hazael's some good stuff. I'm vaguely aware of Dragon, but never really gave them a proper listen. I'll check them out, thanks for the rec. When it comes to slightly less obscure Polish DM, I also really enjoy early Pandemonium. Haven't listened to their post '94 stuff though.

    • @radiofreeinnsmouth1337
      @radiofreeinnsmouth1337  24 дня назад +1

      Pandemonium's super cool. They always struck me as more black metallish though, kinda almost like Xantotol. Dragon's super strange. They've got all these old school death/thrash albums but no one ever talks about them. Everything's got two versions too, one in English and one in Polish. I want to do an episode on them some day but I need to listen to them a lot more. Their drumming is particularly intense, especially on their first album which is like a total rototom carpet-bombing.

    • @olafsternik3337
      @olafsternik3337 24 дня назад

      Yeah, Pandemonium has that cool primordial extreme metal soup thing going on, where I'm not really sure where the death ends and the black begins. I feel like the Devilri demo (imo theird best) is still more death than black though. Xantotol is relly cool too, really raw and primitive shit. And they had a chick on vocals/guitars, which, I'm not complaining. Definately ususual for really early black metal though. The whole releasing one album in both Polish and English thing was somewhat common in the early days of metal in Poland. You had acts like Turbo or Kat or I think TSA (though I was never really big on TSA I might be making shit up here) which were really big doing that. Something about selling records abroad, cause apparently stilted English delivery is more marketable than just lyrics in Polish. I usually prefer the Polish version.
      Edit: I checked and Turbo did that as late as 2014, which, lmao, didn't know that still happened.
