Both couples in ABBA were married this song describes the divorce between Agnetha (the blonde) and her husband Bjorn (the guitar player) Their music was ahead of its time in terms of structure and presentation.
One of my favorite songs by ABBA. ABBA member Bjorn Ulvaeus wrote this after separating from wife and fellow band member, Agnetha Fältskog. It's about a divorce where one person doesn't want to separate and clings desperately to the marriage. It put Agnetha in the strange spot of being asked to sing a breakup song written by her ex-husband. Ulvaeus didn't intend it this way. He explained: "I sang a demo of it myself which a lot of people liked and said, you have to sing that. But I saw the sensible thing of course, it had to go to Agnetha. I remember coming to the studio with it and everyone said, Oh this is great, wonderful It was strange hearing her singing it. It was more like an actress doing something when she sang it, but deeply moving. Afterwards there were a few tears as well." - Source: Songfacts
Getting your ex to sing a break up song is brutal, but boy has it produced a classic. There's a bit where her voice quivers a bit that's absolutely gut wrenching.
ABBA is still big deal.Their London virtual tour VOYAGE is the coolest sensation since May '22 and has overpassed 1,6 million ticket sales!.More than a quarter of attenders are visitors from other countries. The earnings from this phenomenal 'entertaining 'explirimental' experience has given new strong financial blood in London's economy as mentioned in the Medias a couple of months ago.
It means so much more when you know the guy on the guitar wrote the lyrics for the singer he had just divorced. He always denied it was about their breakup - just a general divorce song, how nobody wins - but later admitted he wrote these lyrics in an emotional hour with plenty of drink. He then showed these lyrics to Agnetha - and she burst into tears. The emotional are very real. They wrote about relationships, the strains and eventual failures that resonated with people all around the world.
ABBA is acronim with initials of Their first names, two swedish couples: Agnetha (blonde singer) & Björn (guitarist songwriter) Benny (pianist songwriter) & Anni Frid 'Frida' (brunette singer) both couples separated before the break up of the group "The winner takes it all" (1980) is one of the Best Songs by ABBA and the Most sad and emotional too The best lyrics and the greatest performing with the amazing Interpretation of the lead singer in this TV show express at Germany 1980 you could see the same blonde Agnetha free and natural in the next song "Super Trouper" and very energetic in the last song "On and on and on" (and with her ex husband) but the people who see it only here (and not the whole mini show) are left with the incomplete morbidity of the guitarist who wrote the song for their recently divorced ex-wife But it's a performance of ABBA, with magnificent interpretation of Agnetha, that She knows how to transmit with Her gestures and body and facial expression the spirit and feeling of the songs (I remember Her in others songs before like "S.O.S." or "I've been waiting for You" from 1975, when She was happily married) The lyrics is a fiction, it is not about Their real life, although it is obviously influenced by Their own experiences and the realization of the legal divorce in the middle of 1980, even though They were no longer a couple or lived together more than a year and half ago, at the end of 1978 I suggest to see the next songs in these TV show: "Super Trouper" with the brunette singer Frida in lead voice (same TV studio, staff and outfits) ABBA have more than 20 worldwide hits between 1972/1982, included: Waterloo, Fernando, Dancing Queen, Take a chance on me, Chiquitita All these songs are in your album recopilation GOLD (1992) that have much more than 1.000 weeks at Top 100 in UK Official Charts (first group singer or artist to do it)
ABBA is a "Rabbithole" for sure.. and it is a good one.. The harmonies, lyrics and the musical talent is undisputed !!( And almost 500 million albums/records sold before the modern tech took over says it all..)
This is a huuuuge Abba classic and an iconic breakup song.Really big one.I love better the official video but this version from German TV is also very popular so is the Album that was in ('Super Trouper" a no1 smash in 1980).Agnetha's and Frida's utopic non-autotuned vocals and harmonization are phenomenal.A utopic sound in music culture and a real universal treasure for the musicverse. They both make some of todays ''cabled"/autotuned divas to sound plastic and pale in front of their Swedish majesty.
ABBA were the kings and queens of the breakup songs. Unfortunately, this one hit home to Agnetha (the one singing lead in the song). She had recently gone through a divorce from her husband, Bjorn, who is the guitar player in the group, and after the divorce, he wrote this song for her to sing. The emotions she was showing on the screen were real. I give her kudos for agreeing to sing the song. The other two members of the group, Benny & Frida, were still married at the time, but they later also divorced. Their breakup song is generally thought to be "When All Is Said and Done"... another great ABBA song with Frida on lead vocals. Now, both of these songs are from the early 80's. The funny thing is, their BEST breakup song was from around 1977, when both couples were still together. It is called "Knowing Me, Knowing You". The lyrics of the song hit so close to what both couples went through later on. Perhaps it was some sort of foreshadowing. Anyway, I would suggest you check out the song video for "Knowing Me, Knowing You", as well as a song called "The Name of the Game." That's a good one too.
Kathy! You're the Agnetha of the goup! Beautiful eyes and I like your hair to the back, well I also like your hair loose. This brings back memories of my older sister always listening to ABBA and so were we
In this one Agnetha leads... In others Frida leads... In others both girls sing together... and in some the boys lead, mainly Björn. (Benny, the piano man, only leads one). Their music is amazing😍. Try 'Knowing me knowing you' or 'Fernando'. Greetings ❤ from Chile 🇨🇱🤗👍
How incredible that you can react as a family to my favorite group, I really liked it, can you react to the official video of Mamma Mia? It is one of the best and best-known ABBA songs.
Im a hard core Metal head... This is still one of my favorite songs of all time. Its so sad and beautiful at the same time. And Agnetha is just something else.
Me too Testament isone all time favorites in The 1970s when I was growing up as a kid and became a teenager even though these guys were considered pop.I still love their music anyway.Beautiful voices catchy songs and yes I had a crush on the two girls in the group
He has exactly the same expression on his face that I did as a young boy having to listen to my sister's ABBA albums. Worse was still to come when I was made to go to one of their concerts with my sisters and parents. ☹️🇬🇧
The singer , Agnetha Falskog ,has been singing and song writing since she was 10 years old and with much , much success . Agnetha has one of the top voices in all pop music .with a range of B2 to F6.. at 8:13 she holds a F5 for 15 seconds that is.unheard of in any music genre .outside of Opera.
It's the strangest thing. Every time I hear this song I have an allergic reaction and my eyes start watering and... it's an allergic reaction and that's my story. 😉
Agnetha and Bjorn got married before ABBA and had children, Agnetha was so scared of flying, and having to leave the children at home became too much for her, even today she doesn't fly anywhere, they have invited her to reunions all over the world, but she only travels with car, bus, and train, not to forget ships, of course this put a strain on their marriage, and they parted ways, shame this was the end of ABBA, they never really officially broke up as a group, they just stopped singing together, this is my favourite ABBA song and last song to reach Nr1, Bjorn wanted to keep going, so he blames himself for not understanding what she was going through, I have all their albums, it's the complete sound and Harmonies in every record, I was 19 in 1974 when they won the EUROVISION SONG CONTEST, with the song WATERLOO, man am I getting old 😅
Both ladies are amazing singers and If you want to hear Frida I suggest you listen to Andante Andante, Our last Summer and Cassandra to name but a few. I just want to add that I've just discovered your channel and I love the closeness you all share and wish you all the best.
Still have my long hair at 59 but no longer have the wings, though. It's still about as long as Lulu's right now. It was a lot longer until I cut it recently. Lol. This song is beautiful yet painful. You can hear it in Agnetha's singing. That's what makes this song so good, truly their best song.
Song is on first side of "Super Trouper" album. I suggest getting a list and playing all songs for the album experience. Then after reacting to enough ABBA songs, you can best enjoy the "Mamma, Mia" musical, first a stage presentation and later a movie with a sequel.
This song came at the back of Agnetha( the singer) and Bjorn( the one who plays the guitar on her right side) divorce after 9 years of marriage so there was kind of reality into it
The Official Video really brings home the sadness of their divorce, which, heavily, influenced this song(though denied at the time). It shows the other 3 happy and Agnetha sad and the others waltzing off together leaving her,at the end.
Other top songs from abba to check out SOS Chiquitita Voulez Vous I’ve been waiting for you Fernando Ring Ring The name of the game Money Money Money Angeleyes Knowing me Knowing You My love my life All of these are absolute masterpieces 😊
Always loved ABBA. But with this song, all I can think about is Jimmy and Chuck on Better Call Saul. They sing it together doing karaoke when Jimmy got is law degree.
This song was written in response to the divorce of Bjorn and Agnetha after eight years, and the upcoming divorce of Benny and Anni-Frid after only two and a half years, the two couples that made up the band, as they still remained friends and bandmates (for another several years until the eventual breakup in 1982 after twelve years as a group). Even though they went their separate ways with solo careers they remained friends over the years, held together by their music, which has endured through the decades. They even got together to record Voyage in 2021, 40 years after their last studio album in 1981.
Awesome~! Have you listened to any of the new songs they put out in 2021 on the Voyage album? The first two singles are worth a back to back watch.. "I Still Have Faith In You" and "Don't Shut Me Down" after 39 years, the hundreds of millions of ABBA fans were blown away by the incredible release of a double-single and two more singles to follow, with the album release in Dec 2021, ahead of the digital avatar show which began in May 2022 and has been running, almost daily since... Mind-blowing!
These were recorded about 5 years ago but the album release was delayed due to COVID etc.. All of them were between 67-72 years of age, and it's stunningly beautiful!
Yeah, where are can we start. Where can we end? This Swedish band was amazing and wrote some serious music history. Look at some video's on RUclips from the Musical 'Mama mia' (fun to watch as well). An the pick out whatever you like. Will be a lot!
@@KathyLuluandDonna The Official Video really brings home the sadness of their divorce, which, heavily, influenced this song(though denied at the time). It shows the other 3 happy and Agnetha sad and the others waltzing off together leaving her,at the end.
If you like those long and high notes, two good songs to listen to are covers by Post Modern Jukebox. One is a cover of 'Maps' (with Morgan James) and the other is a cover of 'Barbie Girl', also featuring Morgan James.
Wonderful Agnetha, fantastic ABBA. May I suggest "SOS" live TV performance (Much better than official video) and "Chiquitita" But basically you can't go wrong with ABBA, it is just a case of reacting to the best version.
Most of the younger generation knows this song from the Musical and subsequent movie with Meryl Streep called Mamma Mia (my teen daughters included). Now they know almost every ABBA hit song from the show and many more not in the musical. One of the greatest bands ever-and from Sweden which has so many famous songwriters like Nashville most people don’t realize. BTW, the four were married in the group and this is a breakup song on the heels of Bjorn and Agnetha’s divorce.
I can assure you more people around the WORLD have seen Mamma Mia over Better Call Saul by a factor of 50x. And that’s coming from a huge Breaking Bad fan. You have to get your head around the fact that a show like that while a runaway hit is still a specific genre. Musicals and movies that are adaptions of them are way more widely seen. Besides, people go to shows like Mamma Mia for the music experience to sing along versus a television show that uses the song in an emotional scene.
This was one of their last performances, then they divorced. Knowing me, knowing you can after I think. Don’t remember it was my parents generation 😂 but you should check out “what’s the name of the game” my absolute favourite
Pro tip: According to Björn (the front guitarist in this video), Agneta's voice comes across best in "My Love, My Life" by Abba. ruclips.net/video/C7oiWbA6hDc/видео.html He should know, because he was married to her. The song "The winner takes it all" is about their separation.
New to your channel and have mostly watched your rock and metal reactions. I would love to introduce you to a band: AVATAR. No, not the blue people or the cartoon. This is the band. Where you have said you prefer live videos, I would recommend Bloody Angel (Live at Poland Rock 2019) by AVATAR Or Let It Burn (Loudwire Exclusive) by AVATAR. Keep on rocking!!!!
The Swedish ABBA are the blueprint for the Euro Disco sound. The two men wrote the songs and the two women sang them. Even today the sound is typical for Swedish bands, across all genres. Madonna used parts of ABBA's Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! to get a typical 70s sound: Madonna - Hung Up (Official Video) [HD] I like the ABBA cover of Feuerschwanz, especially because it's funny: Feuerschwanz - Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (ABBA Cover) (Official Video) | Napalm Records
They had 23+ original worldhits and manny manny more fantastic album tracks. (125 in total) They are alle completely different so it is hard to name a few. Take a chance on me, Does your mother know, Thats me, lay all your love on me are some of the faster songs. Knowing me Knowing you, one of us, name of the game, fernando a littlebit slower. It doesnt matter they are all great !
This is one of the greatest songs ever written from the heart.
Her voice is so angelic… and its before autotune when artists really could sing
and she was gorgeous too
Both couples in ABBA were married this song describes the divorce between Agnetha (the blonde) and her husband Bjorn (the guitar player)
Their music was ahead of its time in terms of structure and presentation.
You're right and the Official Video really brings that home.

Helt korrekt och de fortsatte några år till.
To really appreciate this song you have to view, the original promo video as you can see the hurt and pain in her face.....
One of the best groups ever with over 450 million albums sold and a musical that has taken over 5 billion worldwide..
Getting your ex to sing a break up song is brutal, but boy has it produced a classic. There's a bit where her voice quivers a bit that's absolutely gut wrenching.
Thank you for doing this. ABBA was fantastic, and their music holds up very well to this day in my opinion.
ABBA is still big deal.Their London virtual tour VOYAGE is the coolest sensation since May '22 and has overpassed 1,6 million ticket sales!.More than a quarter of attenders are visitors from other countries. The earnings from this phenomenal 'entertaining 'explirimental' experience has given new strong financial blood in London's economy as mentioned in the Medias a couple of months ago.
this song gets better every time you hear it played!!
I grew up with the music of ABBA great reaction love you ladies keep on rocking 🤟
Wow. 50 years since they won the Euro vision Song Contest and became huge from there.
All of ABBA's songs are unique.
The official video to this song is amazing.
More Abba ??? Of course more ABBA💯😍💯😍💯😍😍
Gimme,Gimme,Gimme(a dance anthem)/Knowing Me,Knowing You/SOS (both classic ballads)some fine bangers you may try some next time.
It means so much more when you know the guy on the guitar wrote the lyrics for the singer he had just divorced. ABBA were my idols. Grew up with them. Still holds today. It's a sad song. About their skills fair.
Hug from Sweden 🇸🇪
Best Band Ever
Abba one the biggest bands in the 70ties....
ABBA is acronim with initials of Their first names,
two swedish couples:
Agnetha (blonde singer) &
Björn (guitarist songwriter)
Benny (pianist songwriter) &
Anni Frid 'Frida' (brunette singer)
both couples separated before the break up of the group
"The winner takes it all" (1980)
is one of the Best Songs by ABBA
and the Most sad and emotional too
The best lyrics and the greatest performing with the amazing Interpretation of the lead singer
in this TV show express at Germany 1980 you could see the same blonde Agnetha free and natural in the next song "Super Trouper" and very energetic in the last song "On and on and on" (and with her ex husband)
but the people who see it only here (and not the whole mini show) are left with the incomplete morbidity of the guitarist who wrote the song for their recently divorced ex-wife
But it's a performance of ABBA, with magnificent interpretation of Agnetha, that She knows how to transmit with Her gestures and body and facial expression the spirit and feeling of the songs (I remember Her in others songs before like "S.O.S." or "I've been waiting for You" from 1975, when She was happily married)
The lyrics is a fiction, it is not about Their real life, although it is obviously influenced by Their own experiences and the realization of the legal divorce in the middle of 1980, even though They were no longer a couple or lived together more than a year and half ago, at the end of 1978
I suggest to see the next songs in these TV show:
"Super Trouper"
with the brunette singer Frida in lead voice
(same TV studio, staff and outfits)
ABBA have more than 20 worldwide hits between 1972/1982, included:
Waterloo, Fernando, Dancing Queen,
Take a chance on me, Chiquitita
All these songs are in your album recopilation GOLD (1992) that have much more than 1.000 weeks at Top 100 in UK Official Charts (first group singer or artist to do it)
ABBA is a "Rabbithole" for sure.. and it is a good one.. The harmonies, lyrics and the musical talent is undisputed !!( And almost 500 million albums/records sold before the modern tech took over says it all..)
Listen to Thank You For The Music. It pretty much tells the tale of Agnethas beautiful voice. ❤❤😅
Seems like your pap totally remembers AND knows what the tune is about. I truly appreciate that........
"Have you heard it before "
"Yeah"
Surprised looks 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Amazing beautifull and emotional Song.Nice reactions and i just have to put out there that momy is really beautifull.
So far before my time but you certainly get the sense of the magic surrounding this band. Some things are timeless.
~ Tabitha
ABBA one of the greatest music bands ever, 385 million records sold and still going 40 years after they split up. Proud to be swedish.
One of the best popsongs ever //proud swede
This is a huuuuge Abba classic and an iconic breakup song.Really big one.I love better the official video but this version from German TV is also very popular so is the Album that was in ('Super Trouper" a no1 smash in 1980).Agnetha's and Frida's utopic non-autotuned vocals and harmonization are phenomenal.A utopic sound in music culture and a real universal treasure for the musicverse. They both make some of todays ''cabled"/autotuned divas to sound plastic and pale in front of their Swedish majesty.
The most beautiful song of ABBA ever in my opinion is The day before you came. You should deffinetley listen to it...
Greetings from Poland ❤
I am sure you will like "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man after Midnight)".
A truly beautiful song and performance.
I don't know how Agnetha managed to sing this while going through a separation from her husband you can hear the pain in her voice .
She seems to have suffered. Went into a long period of isolation after the ABBA years. Still did it. A warrior.
Best break-up song ever
ABBA had 19 worldwide hits. Many you would recognize. But there is another that showcases Agnetha's vocal capabilities "Happy New Year".
Kathy! You're the Agnetha of the goup! Beautiful eyes and I like your hair to the back, well I also like your hair loose.
This brings back memories of my older sister always listening to ABBA and so were we
Congratulations on listening to a masterpiece
They had 9 UK number ones, and 19 on the top ten.
Top Melody in the world ❤
ABBA the most exported music in worl history from sweden.. ANother one is WATERLOO.. + many more cheers on a happy friday
F-ABBA!Official video is even better and adds even more impact to the song. That was directed by famous / awarded Lasse Hallstrom.
thank you!!
For so many of us ABBA is in our genes Swedish music #lottalove
How incredible that you can react as a family to my favorite group, I really liked it, can you react to the official video of Mamma Mia? It is one of the best and best-known ABBA songs.
Im a hard core Metal head...
This is still one of my favorite songs of all time.
Its so sad and beautiful at the same time.
And Agnetha is just something else.
Me too Testament isone all time favorites in The 1970s when I was growing up as a kid and became a teenager even though these guys were considered pop.I still love their music anyway.Beautiful voices catchy songs and yes I had a crush on the two girls in the group
always makes me cry this song
What a beautiful reaction...love it. Greets from germany ❤
He has exactly the same expression on his face that I did as a young boy having to listen to my sister's ABBA albums. Worse was still to come when I was made to go to one of their concerts with my sisters and parents. ☹️🇬🇧
More ABBA! :)
The Visitors is my fave ABBA song.
The best pop group in worldwide musical history....Try "Lay all your love on me" & "Happy new year"!.
...and now you can do Tommy Johansson's cover of it. 😉
Masterpiece 🔥 ❤
Please do Tommy Johanssons cover of this song.
abba "chiquitita" next ❤
The singer , Agnetha Falskog ,has been singing and song writing since she was 10 years old and with much , much success . Agnetha has one of the top voices in all pop music .with a range of B2 to F6..

The best of the best the fab four from Sweden !
By the way I love the piano intro.
Muito bom !!! Sou fã do ABBA.

love it when the mom (Sissy Spacek) says : "they have lovely harmony.."... yea...oops...they had yes....
It is a swedish band from the 70's.
Both ladies are amazing singers and If you want to hear Frida I suggest you listen to Andante Andante, Our last Summer and Cassandra to name but a few. I just want to add that I've just discovered your channel and I love the closeness you all share and wish you all the best.

Gosh does this takes me back in time when my prents had parties lol CHEERS happy friday.. In their meaning The winner takes it all.. drank all
One of the best songs ever written… and very hard to sing because of 7/4 beat…. How has anyone on planet not know this song ?
One of the best vocal performances ever.
You should have used the official video though.
You Yanks have missed out on so much beautiful music....and I LOVE the USA!

I was hoping to see the lucky shirt lol
You will see it tomorrow. Lol
Dad gets it, lol.
Always loved ABBA. But with this song, all I can think about is Jimmy and Chuck on Better Call Saul. They sing it together doing karaoke when Jimmy got is law degree.
I missed the expert analysis of Lulu your "big hair" analyst. She would love ABBA's hairstyles. So 70's.
Here's some Abba suggestions for you: "Supertrooper", "Knowing me, knowing you", "Money, money, money", "Eagle", "Chiquitita"..........
You gotta hear Tommy J version of this song, he kills it!! Both ABBA and Tommy are Swedes!
Tommy Johansson!!. He also does a great cover of One of Us
Awesome~!
Have you listened to any of the new songs they put out in 2021 on the Voyage album? The first two singles are worth a back to back watch..
"I Still Have Faith In You" and "Don't Shut Me Down"

Wonderful Agnetha, fantastic ABBA.
May I suggest "SOS" live TV performance (Much better than official video) and "Chiquitita"

BTW, the four were married in the group and this is a breakup song on the heels of Bjorn and Agnetha’s divorce.
No, most young people know this song from Better Call Saul.

Watch adele "someone like you " live at Glastonbury festival, think you will enjoy it.
New to your channel and have mostly watched your rock and metal reactions. I would love to introduce you to a band: AVATAR. No, not the blue people or the cartoon. This is the band.
Where you have said you prefer live videos, I would recommend Bloody Angel (Live at Poland Rock 2019) by AVATAR
Or Let It Burn (Loudwire Exclusive) by AVATAR.
Keep on rocking!!!!
Thanks
The Swedish ABBA are the blueprint for the Euro Disco sound. The two men wrote the songs and the two women sang them. Even today the sound is typical for Swedish bands, across all genres.
Madonna used parts of ABBA's Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! to get a typical 70s sound:

I like the ABBA cover of Feuerschwanz, especially because it's funny:
Feuerschwanz - Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (ABBA Cover) (Official Video) | Napalm Records
Tommy Johansson has made a cover of this song.
