Mark Brown heck yeah!! Im glad i could help bro! Im a believer in if i can do it cheaper then why pay a whole bunch if in not going big turbo you know.
Did the exact same thing pulled the trigger after i saw this video and after research found the size to be 30% larger than stock and i paid almost nothing in all so totally worth it as long as you stay stock turbo
Motorhead883_ sweet..im tuned by stratified pushing 23+ lbs of boost but i live in canada where its cold allll the time but there 2 months of very hot weather and we shall see how she holds up when that time comes
@@isabelle.c011how did it hold up with the strat tune? Looking into having them tune my car seeing my current tuner closed up shop due to EPA regulations (U.S.)
Gregory de la Torre awesome!! Just be careful when drilling the holes for the bracket. I broke a drill bit and slammed the drill into the intercooler. Luckily it didn’t puncture it!
Gregory de la Torre honestly no, they were pretty shallow. I bought them at ahtozone they come in a little plastic box with 4 of them and they come with juts already. They might be about 1/2in long max
Hey great video, I’ve just bought an RS intercooler for my ST. My question is, do you think the active shutters would fit with the RS intercooler on? My reason for asking is that my car is still under warranty and I want my car to look stock as possible. Many thanks
Hi. I see nobody write you 3 month’s, sorry if my answer can be late. Grill shutters can’t fit with rs intercooler, or tune st cooler, only factory st cooler. It’s the reasons why focus rs does not have grill shutters.
@@saintnick913 thank you, I took the old (2013) ST intercooler off to fit the (2017) RS one, however the map sensor was different and I didn’t want to risk a fault code it so I’ve put the ST one back on meantime until I decide what I’m doing. It wasn’t all wasted though as I fitted my velossa tech big mouth whilst the bumper was off 👍🏻
Where did you get the metal strips that you used to bolt to the front holes on the intercooler? Also, between those metal strips and the zip ties, does it appear to be solidly mounted (not a lot of movement)? I can get some stainless ties to use if the zip ties appear to work for you.
I was curious how the two worked together - sounds like there would be very little movement of the intercooler using both the brackets and the zip ties. I will look at Home Depot to see if I can find the part number for the metal that you used. Thanks!
Thanks a lot for the video. Is it plug and play, beside the metal brackets? or Did you have to buy any intercooler pipes to fit? I really appreciate you video.
JESÚS ARROYO MARTÍNEZ hey, so yeah its plug and play you just have to make the brackets to hold it on there firm. No pipes kr anything extra is needed except the bracket and the little bolts to hold the bracket. Make sure you get a good quality drill bit to drill through the crash bar. I had to use like 4 drill bits because of how hard it is. But ig you have a good quality one it will be easy. Also after you have the holes drilled do a test fit with the bumper. I had to remove the foam thing under the intercooler for it to fit nicely in there
Thank you very much for your advice. I will keep every thing in mind. Keep up the excellent work. I have on my 2013 focus st a 3 inch QTP and cut out catless downpipe, borla 3 inch catback exhaust system, K&N CAI, COBB ACCESSPORT V3 STAGE 3 91, IRIDIUM spark plugs, and, now, i am going to install the RS intercooler until i have some cash for a FMI and a Big Turbo Kit. What is the best intercooler for all the above bolts on?
terminal specialist from 0-60 it will make no difference, all it does is allow for cooler air to go into the engine. The big gains will come from the down-pipe, tune, and maybe charge pipes
Titan Six in the video in the beginning i show the highest doing a 1st2nd and 3rd gear pull the hottest it got was 136 and at 7:50 i show a picture and doing the same pull the highest is 109
Great vid and I always appreciate before and after data values to compare to to see if its worthwhile
Pete thank you!!
Thanks for the video. I got an RS IC for $50, +$11 in hardware and a lot of work it is installed. Would not have attempted it without your vid.

Nancy Perrault exactly, im still stock turbo and have now charge pipes pushing 20psi and the temps stay pretty good for being in the desert now!

Just got my local $50 RS intercooler haha can’t wait to install it!
Im gonna install one on my Volvo thanks for the info.
Did you not include the shutters just cause or would they not fit?
Good vid, good camera shots.
ill be getting a rs intercooler for 50 this week cant wait to do this mod!
Gregory de la Torre awesome!! Just be careful when drilling the holes for the bracket. I broke a drill bit and slammed the drill into the intercooler. Luckily it didn’t puncture it!
Motorhead883_ that’s good to know I’ll be careful. Do you remember what size bolts and nuts you use?
Gregory de la Torre honestly no, they were pretty shallow. I bought them at ahtozone they come in a little plastic box with 4 of them and they come with juts already. They might be about 1/2in long max
I did this to my 2012 ST and it runs great and air temps are fantastic a lot better than the original.
dale marshall its the cheapest mod haha
Yes it is, cost me £50 from a 2700 miles car. Steal.
dale marshall heck yeah! Same price i got mine for and like 5-10 bucks for the hardware
I wonder if tjis works for upgraded intercooler for focus rs
So do you really need the steel plate to hold it so it move move? Or more zip ties the thick ones

did you do anything different with the stock pipes to make it work since the rs intercooler is slightly longer?
Where did you get the metal strips that you used to bolt to the front holes on the intercooler? Also, between those metal strips and the zip ties, does it appear to be solidly mounted (not a lot of movement)? I can get some stainless ties to use if the zip ties appear to work for you.
jdw3md so the metal brackets i got at Home Depot, i tried zip ties at first but it moved around too much. With these its solid on there.
I was curious how the two worked together - sounds like there would be very little movement of the intercooler using both the brackets and the zip ties. I will look at Home Depot to see if I can find the part number for the metal that you used. Thanks!
jdw3md it works great, Home Depot has some brackets that are 1/8th think that will work really good, just paint them whatever color and you cant see
Motorhead883_ what did you use to mount the bracket to the IC directly?
Ok I now see there was already part for bolt to go onto. What size bolts did u use?
Do you need a tune after installing this?
Is there the spot for the air sensor the same?
sudda89 yes its exactly the same

Sorry, Borla 2 and a half inch exhaust system.
JESÚS ARROYO MARTÍNEZ your exhaust must sound mean!! Thats my next mod if money permits haha
It sounds meaner as hell, i would say. But, that´s after 4000 rpm i believe, below that, it does not sound that loud.
pretty simple upgrade, i bet it took some time though. did it make a difference on the 0-60? I bet the engine will be a lot happier regardless XD
terminal specialist from 0-60 it will make no difference, all it does is allow for cooler air to go into the engine. The big gains will come from the down-pipe, tune, and maybe charge pipes
What did your charge temps go to versus the stock FMIC?
Titan Six in the video in the beginning i show the highest doing a 1st2nd and 3rd gear pull the hottest it got was 136 and at 7:50 i show a picture and doing the same pull the highest is 109
Motorhead883_ so you dropped temps by like 30degrees just by switching to the RS intercooler?
I always said that the RS intercooler will fit
Tito Baez it did and works awesome keeping the temps low. I just need charge pipes. I heard it can lower temps by 10 more degrees so thats next.
if you get an RS air box it will help a bit too
LCARS359 i bet lol, i got rid of the car already. Got an f150 now
What's the outlet size on the stock rs intercooler?
Gab Larocque the outlet and inlet is exactly the same size as a stock st intercooler 2.5in.
Can’t really see it inthe comparison but are they the same width? Like from end tank to end tank?
Turbo Tuur so the length is exactly the same but with and height is both bigger about 2 inches high snd an inch wide maybe a little more
Cool, thanks for that!
Turbo Tuur no problem let me know if you have any questions.
Motorhead883_ well if you know what the size is that would be class but i reckon you don’t haveit anymore. Want to useit for a project
Turbo Tuur what size is the rs intercooler? Or the stock one?
