I just made it to state today from my chapter :). I’m only averaging like a 22-23 on the sprint round and I really want to make it to nationals this year since it’s my last.
(Sorry in advance for the long comment) I got a 25 in 6th grade (💀 I had a mid sprint round and BOMBED the target. I only got 3 questions right) and was in the bottom quartile of my chapter (~120th). I didn’t really study for it at all. I used my prior knowledge that I had picked up from random places and a few years of RSM back in middle school and made some educated guesses. This year, I got a 33 and was in the top quartile of my chapter (36th). I used your Mastering AMC 8 book to prepare, but I ran out of time after I had gone through about 2/3 of the combinatorics section, which was my weakest topic by far. Because of this, my target round score improved by 6 points to get a 12/16. However, my sprint round was still not amazing. I only attempted 2 out of the last 10 problems, but thankfully, I only got 1 wrong so I still ended up with a pretty decent score of 21. If I finish your Mastering AMC 8 book and start learning the basics for AMC 10/12, do you think I can raise my score enough to be in the top 13 at my chapter competition in February (normally at least high 30s)?
You made good progress and should be proud. If you finish all the topics, and do extra practice for your weak topics, the results should be much better. There is still plenty of time for the next MATHCOUNTS test so continue to study and keep the momentum. To improve Sprint scores, you also need to work on your speed, which you can do using MATHCOUNTS Trainer (you can also have fun while practicing ruclips.net/video/FiC-izuw6fU/видео.html :-)
I got 12th in my state as a 6th grader with a 28/46. Should I do the AoPS introduction series if I want to make nationals next year. Should I also do MATHCOUNTS trainer and alcumus
That's pretty good for 6th grade. AoPS books along with MATHCOUNTS trainer should be enough. You can also use Alcumus for weaker topics. Good Luck next year!
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the team round 10 questions in 20 minutes? Also I just did the chapter Mathcounts competition in St. Petersburg, FL. Didn’t make it to states, but my friend did 😅 Still won a $30 gift card though.
Yes, Team round is 10 questions in 20 minutes with all 4 team members working together. Great to hear that you won a prize. That's awesome, our chapter never did any prizes. What are the prizes for?
@@SohilRathi The prizes are for the top people in each part of the competition. The top teams get some gift cards, and so do top individuals, and the ciphering round winner. What is a good score for chapter in order to advance to state? And how many students from each chapter go to state? (I know each state is different, just want to get a rough idea.)
The scores vary a lot from year to year and chapter to chapter. Even the number of qualifiers vary depending on the number of schools in that chapter. I would recommend checking your chapter website or asking someone who attended that chapter in previous years.
Each chapter's cutoff is different and varies from year to year. Don't worry about a specific score as it will only make you nervous, just try to do your best.
It varies from year to year, but historically NJ, CA, TX, WA, MA have high cutoffs, but sometimes other states also have higher cutoffs and strong teams.
I am not sure of the typical cutoffs in Ohio. My suggestion - don't worry about it. Just focus on your preparation. Work on your weak areas, do many mocks (remember to take timed tests to build speed for Sprint round). Good Luck.
@@lleytonio673 Congrats, this seems like a good score. I am not sure of cutoffs for state in Ohio. Just practice hard and hope for the best. Good luck!
I had many tabs open that I wanted to show, and had my recording software on a monitor on the side, so had to keep checking if my screen was getting recorded correctly 🙂
Thank you so much for these videos @SohilRathi! I am going to state for the first time ever this year, in 10 days, and this will really help me. My first time doing MathCounts, but I can't do next year sadly 🥲

I just made it to state, ill be competing next week, and this video was really helpful :)
Congratulations! Good Luck on state competition.
Due to your amazing study guide, I made it to state and won a 1000 dollar scholarship(from chapter). Thank you so much!!!!
Wow, that's awesome. Congratulations on the scholarship. Which chapter is that?
Uhh I think it’s the one in Downtown Grand Rapids at GVSU. Can you make a video for tips on state please?
Bro how did you get 1000 from chapter
I won countdown at chapter and got a Stanley and a 20$ gift card I don’t think the real winners got anything
IDK 4th place got 1000
My state competition is tomorrow... I'm terrified but I hope I get to nationals. Thanks for the video$
Best Wishes for the state competition!
Made it to state and saw this video, competing a month from now. Glad you made this, hope this helps. (I will update on what happens)
Good Luck on states!
made it too, what state are you
I'm Idaho
I made it too, from Texas!
Unfortunately nothing came up from it but I did well based on what I usually do.
This video should have more views. It looks underrated
Thanks for the great video and great sites!
Also, you don't have to answer, but what grade are you in?
Thanks, glad to hear you like them. I am currently in 9th grade.

In the school round I got 16th out of 21 (grade 7) with only 20/46 points

Ok, let me try to work on this.
I got first in my chapter and I’m going to states. I don’t think I’m making it to nationals though

What are the difficulty levels of the strech/warm-up/work-out problems in the school handbook? They seem easy. Are they the school contest levels?
Yeah, they are on the easier side meant for wider audience. Good practice for someone new to MATHCOUNTS (from school to chapter level).

Hi, is MC chapter level the same as AMC8 or AMC10?
MC Chapter is similar to AMC 8. Please note an important different - MATHCOUNTS is short answer questions whereas AMC 8 is multiple choice.
AMC 8 is around Mathcounts chapter-state. Nationals is more like AMC 10.
What score did you get when you competed in the chapter competition? What is a good score to get in the chapter competition?
