- We recently purchased an NSK Planet 600 Jig Grinding Spindle. In this video we test out two different wheels to see which gives a better finish. C.B. DeKorne cbdekorne.com/ American Rotary Tools Company www.artcotools...
Your channel is becoming like Lipton's...I have to watch with one monitor on the video and the other with an open browser to look up all of the interesting tools you are getting. Nicely done.
Thanks for the nice compliment Robert!
Steve
Great demo Steve & Kathy. Nice tool.
Thanks Randy.
Steve
I miss the heck out of you guys and your great vids. Hope all's well with you guys.
Neat little tool! Grinding hard parts leaves such nice finishes.
Hi Brian,
That was A2 60-62 RC and you are correct the hard steel grinds better than soft steel. It left a great finish.
Steve
Another interesting video, thanks Steve and Kathy.
You're welcome!
Steve
Nice video. I do not think I will ever get to your level of precision but I always enjoy gaining knowledge from your expertise.
Thanks again! Say hello to your family.
Thanks Jeff.
Steve
That looks like it makes a great finish. Congratulations on the new tool.
Thanks Harold.
Steve
That's a brilliant setup, accurate too. Really nice.
Thanks aserta.
Steve
Nice looking tool. I am interested in seeing how you true up and dress the CBN wheels.
Good system!
Thanks.
You should use CBN plated wheels . They hold up better and last longer.
I have both but i prefer the resin bond. much better finish.
Good stuff Steve! enjoyed.
ATB, Robin
Thanks Robin.
Steve
Clever setup Steve! Your imagination is showing.
If things work out and I get the Suburban Master Grind you will see a lot of interesting things on this channel using both.
Steve
I had a Harig grindall #2 size. It was a very accurate piece, unfortunately, I sold it with the rest of my machinist tools after I retired. That probably makes some people cringe to hear things like that, but I had no one in line to give them to, and I wanted to see them go to good use.
I was watching that ebay listing for the MG-5-CV fixture, but the seller seemed very sketchy (nothing else for sale, only 9 feedback, nothing recent, etc). I hope you get it in good shape. Thanks for sharing more of your grinding expertise and as usual, excellent cinematography work Kathy. She should be in front of the camera running the machines more.
Thank you! I could run the machines but someone else would have to do the filming, plus my grinding experience is very limited. But we'll see if we can manage it in the future.
That gives the expression a new twist, "Fire in the hole"
Good one!
Steve
Very nice Steve
Thanks.
Nice set of tools for grinding. It will be an interesting video if you decide to show how to true up a CBN or diamond wheel. I've seen a couple people do them, but would be nice to see how you do it and describe what you are doing. Hi Kat. Say hi to Rachel.
Hi Ryan, how's it going? Rachel says hi also!
Kathy B Doing ok. Summer is flying by.
Hi Ryan,
That will be coming soon. I should have an 8" CBN wheel with a special diamond dresser in this week sometime.
Steve
That is slick
Thanks.
Hi Steve,
Nice grinding head and the adapter looks great. I really like your spin fixture and have been looking for one to add to my shop. I know you have a jig grinder did you ever think about using the grinding head from that on the surface grinder?
Hi Eric,
The Planet 600 has a much smaller foot print than the jig grinding head and is a better fit on the surface grinder. It uses less air and I doubt I can get any better results with the jig grinding head.
Steve
What kind of compressor do you use for the Grinder? I don't ever hear one. I like how quiet it is.
I mean for the jig grinder?
It is a 6hp 2 stage don't remember the brand name. It is outside the shop in its own little building. That keeps the noise down a lot.
Steve
It is a NSK planet 600, very accurate and quiet.
Steve
Thanks, Beautiful setup. I've bolted an Extended Die Grinder to the wheel guard of my Chevalier grinder.
Ugly and noisey. Great channel I binge watch about 10 episodes on Saturday.
Thanks again.
👍 hello everyone at SR. What determines the the direction of rotation for the part? I run my lathe in reverse when toolpost grinding, so work and wheel are opposing each other. Thanks again everyone!
Hi James,
It doesn't make much difference what Direction it spins. I usually spin the same direction as the grinding wheel. I may get a little bit better finish and accuracy. Spinning against the wheel will cause the wheel to bit into the work especially with interrupted cuts where as spinning with the wheel causes the wheel to ride on top of the part rather than dig in.
Steve
Very cool
Thanks.
Steve
Nice set up, holy smokes those are expensive!
Hi Stan,
Yes they are but way cheaper than a new ID grinder. Also, It is very fast and accurate when setup right. For doing accurate angle work it would be hard to beat. I held extremely tight tolerances on jig ground parts (hole to hole and diameters) in the past using one not quite as good as this one.
Steve
Why did you turn the part the same direction when using the stone and the opposite direction using the CBN Steve?
Because I could. :) I was testing it earlier spinning opposite the wheel direction to see how much it would bog down. I like to grind spinning the same direction as the wheel in most cases but was not paying enough attention filming the video, was running my mouth to much.
Steve
You can turn the part in the same direction to slow down the surface speed of the part you are grinding if reqd .
Nice tool . I have a similar one .
Hi Max,
What machine do you use yours in?
Steve
@@SolidRockMachineShopInc I bought it to use in a boring attachment for the mill . It's a Japanese one Yuasa Accu Grinder 525-200 jig grinder. I am not far off doing a video about it as i don't think there is one out yet that i have seen . You bet me to it !!! Cheers .
Let me know when it is up. I would love to see it.
Steve
Nice new tools, this should make precision boring quite nice for you....
I'd need to borrow Kathy for a while, since she's pretty good at camera and editing work, it would help me get back at producing videos....
BTW, Kathy, are you also good at junk management and organising, it's another thing badly needed here...??? lol 😂😎👍
Lol, well I only do the filming, Rachel does the editing, she makes me look good! My junk management and organizing skills involve a trash can and a shovel so I'm not sure you'd want me, I get in trouble for throwing things away a lot. I wish I was one of those super organized people, I have no idea how they do it!
@@kathyb7126 Oooooh........... GEeeeeeezzzz....!!! (Mostly about the throwing away part, even worse in a machine shop full o metal and treasures... lol)
Or..... We forget about the cleaning and focus on the video production... ( Nice try...!!! ) 💔😂
@@pierresgarage2687 Lol I don't usually throw anything away in the shop unless it's obvious trash. Otherwise I ask Dad first since I realize they have a value I don't recognize yet. It's mainly in the house that I'll toss things.
Ok...!!!! You're hired... 😎👍
@@pierresgarage2687 Lol
How bout a website for ordering your products or something please.
Hi Michael,
At this time we don't have enough inventory in stock to have a website for them. This is why we take our orders through email. The only thing we have available for immediate sale would be our boring bars and only in the 3/8" size at the moment. We're making more 1/2" right now. All other products have a waiting list for people interested in them.
@@kathyb7126 Thanks Kathy!
@@michaelshea5427 No problem! If there's anything else I can help with just let me know!
