  • Hi! 🙂
    In this video I share my knowledge on how to find your skin undertone like a professional image consultant would (you're not neutral undertone btw), some color theory and four season colour analysis. I learned these techniques and tips through professional courses I did with professional image consultants, books I've read and extensive research that I've done for years. If you struggled finding your skin undertone and haven't been able to tell, I think these techniques will definitely help you.
    Although I don't practice image consulting, I have so much knowledge of it and I needed a venue to share all the things I know as I really enjoy helping other people find harmony in their image and look their best.

I could see infinite potential for content with your subject knowledge diving deep on dressing for each of the 12 seasons. You touched on it briefly in the Autumn and the Summer video, but I feel there's soooooo much more to learn about building a wardrobe that is compatible with one's natural skin tone. Winter (cool) often has warm golden or red undertones in the hair and the usual answer is that your hair is truly an ash tone, but ash toned winter hair is easy to get a "suntan" and that's the color of your sun-tanned hair. I do too. I think the gold looks a 100 times better. Your skin looks more smooth and bright with the gold. Gold makes your eyes stand out a lot more than the silver.. If you look at the color of the lips they look a lot more pink on the gold side. I think you look washed out with the silver.. And I think you look a little bit washed out in the whole video because you are wearing white. So I’m confused.

    • @TsubasaDreams

    Very good video, well structured and nicely explained.
    For myself, I basically asked a professional to judge it for me, though when I did it at 25 I got a different result to "best colors" than what I got at 40. Both went for winter, but the first one said to go for the bright version and avoid the dark version, while the second one determined that the dark version of a cold colour is best for me.

    I am surprised that you have not discussed olive skin in this video. Olives like me - and you - can get confused because we have a seemingly warm overtone (yellowish). It has taken me a long time to understand that the greenish cast to our skin is created by a blue undertone shining through the yellow (blue plus yellow equals green). I think many, many olives mistype themselves as warm.
    A colour analysis friend mistyped me as warm even though she had formal training. In her defence, though, she used the 4 season model and of her 4 options, the muted tones of Autumn were closest- not because i am warm but because I have low chroma and many of the autumn colours are muted. A problem I have always had with the 12 season is that I am too muted for deep winter, but too dark for soft summer. I think there are other colour systems that work better. Personally, I like your colour style by Jen VAX which takes a very logical approach, and it’s based on temperature, value and chroma.

    • @MikaelaCarrizo
      @MikaelaCarrizo  Год назад +21

      Absolutely! I will address olive skin tones in a separate video, it's hard to fit everything into one video and I don't want to create more confusion.
      This video was solely to figure out warm or cool undertones with the fabrics that will bring them out the most.

      I have the same “problem” I’m too muted for deep winter when I turn my photo b&w. I'm going to try the shiny lame fabric technique. I've been pretty lost-ish because I lean more toward the middle as far as warm or cool, but it's hard for me to figure out if I lean more cool or warm. I have warmer color freckles, my hair pulls red, but my hair is also more of a medium brown, and wearing grey ends up making me look like I could be a true summer, despite my realization that my favorite photos of me skin-wise all have bright spring colors.
    I thought for a long time that I was a winter just because of my dark brown eyes and light skin (which variant of dark brown it is, chocolate, etc, I'm not sure), but the whites are bright against the iris. My eyebrows and hair have less contrast (I have to fill in my eyebrows if I want to see them better), and if I wear muted/darkish/brown colored lipstick I look sick. A brighter, warmer-neutral pink and I look healthy. Cool brights make my skin brighter, but so do bright warms like an orange. I always got complimented on the more of what I thought was a bright jewel toned blue, so I thought I was cool. I didn't realize I actually looked more vibrant in that orange color. That orange isn't on any of the winter palettes. The cool brights have more of that "standing in front of me" vs coexisting with the color effect despite them not making my skin sickly or ruddy. Autumn colors also make me look sick and drawn out though, despite being warm.
    All my photos in the past have me wearing makeup though, in one level or another so it'll be interesting to try these lame fabric colors in the indirect light along with the colors I've singled out from looking through my photos over the years.

    I wondered where I could find those fabric samples and a few minutes later I realized that I have satin pillowcases in both colors: silver and gold.What luck!
    I put the silver one first, then the gold one over it, and every time I removed the gold one, I was amazed at the difference between the two colors on me.
    The gold color automatically cast a glow on my face which looked fresher and shadowless. When i took the gold away, a huge shadow would appear under my chin and i looked like a dead man in the face.
    Gloomy face, gray and full of shadows.Yuck!
    Given that there is such a difference, I assume that I have a warm undertone of the skin. And I have fair skin and dark hair and eyebrows (apx. level 3, brown to black, leaning more towards black but soft not pure black and I always had problems when I would lighten my hair because I have red pigment in my hair so any color would turn brassy) and eyes that are a mixture of green and brown - I am 99% sure that I fall under the dark autumn.
    And it just so happened that half of my wardrobe is in those earthy, natural colors because I've been drawn to those colors lately and I think they look good on me. Autumn is also my favorite season.I love its colors.🍂🍁 Right behind it is the spring in which I was born and whose colors I will occasionally jump into even though I don't belong there (because I don't have low contrast). 😁
    I think that a peach shade would suit my complexion, for example salmon, even though I've been running away from it my whole life haha.
    Out of all the youtube channels on this topic that I have reviewed so far - you did the best job and thank you!
    Now I just need to find the right shade of foundation which has always been a problem for me.

    I have hEDS, so my season changes based on the lighting because our skin is translucent, not just pale. :/ Where we goin? So I know my season. Lol I don't like gold, but Im thinking it looks OK on me, especially rose gold. I feel more confident with rose gold tones, but not nude. Nudes and pale pinks make me look ill. I cannot wear foundation. Mineral Veil (translucent) is literally all I can wear without it being super obvious. BB creams in light can be OK, but still obviously a different color.

    Hey Mikaela. Can I ask a question please?... I'm a dark winter (the same as you). I love my colours - but I live in Spain and don't want to wear too much black (it's hot 80% of the year) Plus before discovering my colours, I lived in black and now I'm a bit sick of it. Can I wear dark winter colours and have tan / brown shoes, belt and hangbag?... Would that look off?... It just feels more summery, laid-back beach style to me... But I'm learning all this - so asking you the expert : ) xx

      Shoes and belts are quite far from the face, it should be fine to wear any colour you want. Also dark brown IS in the recommended colours palette for deep winter type.

      Hi, you should base your contrast on your natural hair color & face without makeup. If your hair is colored now, use a pic w/ your natural hair to see your contrast. If you'll do draping, you should cover your hair with white cloth/ towel.

    Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t olive a skin tone and not a undertone. Which you can be pale, light, or medium olive skin tone. My understanding is undertones are cool, warm, or neutral and even neutral leans either more warm or cool. Skin tones being light, olive, medium, dark. I’m learning that I have a neutral undertone that may be cool delicate but my actually skin is light but not pale. I’m lighter than you but not pale either. I beehive my skin tone is olive because I have green/grey cast to my skin. I wear neutral foundation but it’s not perfectly seamless. There’s so much miss information so this gets confusing. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

    I assume I'm summer or winter because I'm cool toned. Warm colours make me look sick and highlight all my flaws. I just can't figure out if I'm light or dark because my skin is pale, my hair is medium dark but my eyes aren't brown or black. They're green with a hint of blue and a dark circle around the iris.

      Finally someone like me 👏🏼 I’ve watched so many video’s trying to figure out what type i am. You should definitely watch her video on the types, if you haven’t already. It helped me a lot.
      From the video I gathered that your two main characteristics (the first one is the dominant one and the one you notice first) decide your type. Also I think the main difference between summer and winter is if you’re muted (soft) or bright (contrast). For me it sounds like you have a medium to high contrast which would make you a winter (If you are cool toned and I understood the whole thing correctly). In Addition not everything has to be the way it is described.
      So for example:
      My Features: Pale skin, a cool undertone, dark hair/eyebrows and blue eyes.
      characteristics: I would say my main/dominant one would be the relatively high contrast of my features --> Bright
      And the second one would that I’m cool toned.
      1. Bright + 2. Cool -> Bright Winter
      I hope I didn’t explain anything wrong but that’s what I figured from the videos I watched ☺️
