7 years of the Retro Collection line, and Hasbro finally comes out with a box set in the spirit of which all of them should have been from the get-go? It almost seems like somebody finally started looking online at what the fans were doing and finally got it close to right. I agree that making it a boxed set of six and not being able to buy them individually is a bit of a loss. This one has figures that are mostly fresh and new (if you don't already have the Stan Solo figures), but like you, I've been collecting Stan Solo from the beginning. Hasbro released several of the bounty hunters in box sets of two Retro Collection. They certainly could have done that for Luke and Han in Stormtrooper Disguise. We'll see if they actually make them and what the MSRP is when they come out. If they keep it close to that 11 to 12 dollars a figure range, I'll get them.

I think the reveals are okay. My expectations for Hasblow are so low that I was expecting much worse. I don't understand why they don't just release the whole vintage line as they've completed about a third of it already.
They probably will. I think they’re timing the OT RETRO COLL releases to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the original film, in 2027. They’ve come this far with the OT RETRO figures; I don’t see why they wouldn’t release the rest of them (plus new characters).
There are plenty of Retro collectors who, for whatever reason, don't care about the new figures of never before made characters, and only want reprints of the original 96. But then there are plenty like me who will gladly sell off the Walrus Man to those fans and get some of the money back on the whole set. Everyone wins, sort of kind of....
A repro walrusman wont demand that much money. You can pretty much buy a used kenner version (real version) for 20.00 or so loose. At best you'll get 6 to 7 bucks for it.
Stan solo makes really awesome figures but they are still customs in my eyes. Nothing can hold a candle to a card back that has Kenner printed on it. Hasbro/Kenner or General Mills/Kenner, it’s all the same and a Kenner figure regardless of who the holding company is, will always be the most legit.
It’s good to finally have an official Han Solo in Stormtrooper Disguise. I have more than a few of the SLC / SSC figures. They’re very nice (for bootlegs),, but they’re getting a little too expensive for me now. It’s nice to have a cheaper option. Besides, I can’t wait to compare the figures (SLC vs HASBRO Solo). I compared the Yak Faces, and the SLC bootleg won out in quality - you get what you paid for.
@@AllThings80s let’s give it 10 years and then compare a Hasbro Kenner yak face to a Stan Solo yak face. I speculate HK will be victorious. Only time will tell which holds more collectibility. I have a few SS and Gentle Giant figs as well and they are gorgeous figures.
We all know these will be box sets going forward. But you can just fill out your Rebel medal ceremony scene with Pondas and Dr Evazans. Or whatever is left at Ollies if you are in the USA, Ned droids, Bo Katans, The Armor, Ahsokas, Obi-Wans....
Paywalling troop figures in box sets with named characters is ridiculous. Does Hasbro honestly think army builders will buy multiple box sets just to build out a squad? As with the clone troopers, where I would've bought several, I will instead buy none.

I was very sad to hear about Nicko retiring, but he deserves a break at his time in life. I really don't know much about the new drummer, but if he's played with Steve Harris all these years, I'm quite sure he's up to the task.
I was pretty happy to see this wave of retro figures and even more happy that they were going back to the classics, be it remastered versions or all new Kenner style retros. I'll definitely be picking up at least one set of these, if not two (wanted to keep in box and one to open of course). We'll see how it goes, but I'm very hopeful that we'll see more classic figures in the retro wave as well as unreleased, and maybe they'll stay away from the modern show retros... I would venture to guess that will see a Luke Skywalker Stormtrooper outfit release in another release down the road. Always happy to hear your take on these releases Dean. My first thoughts were also, “I hope this isn’t a boxset, as there’s two army builders in there collectors have waited almost 50 years for!”. I didn’t partake in the Stan Solo figures as the price point was too high for me, especially to army build with the Rebel troopers. I’ve been holding out for these! Stan Solo was a very devisive chap too, so I’m sure there’s thousands of us who don’t own his figs. I always thought of Jeremy Beadle’s “Mr Angry” character every time I saw him interviewed as he was always so upset 😂 I have my OG Luke Stormtrooper I picked up at Tesco in 1985 and he’s still as white as the day I got him - it was close to me being out of playing with Star Wars, so I looked after him well. Thanks for all the videos, as always, Dean! So happy seeing you with your toys behind you now you’re settled into your new home.

I don't - but I do have Procustomfigures' painted J-slot rocket-firing Boba Fett, along with the concept Boba Fett - that was advertised on the SW cardback - both are very nice figures.
3:55 For those of you that don't already know : it is possible to de- yellow these older plastic toys. This is not a thing any old Jedi will teach you (jk, lol). There are videos here showing how to use high power hydrogen peroxide to "clean" the yellowing from real "vintage" toys - just be careful the stuff is caustic and needs to be handled with care and good cleaning up. 🙃
Depending on the plastic used and factory the toy(s) came from, the results may not last long before reverting to the unsightly discoloured yellow. Also, who knows what the chemicals may do to the aged plastic in years to come. Personally, I wouldn't risk it. These toys are old - hence, the RETRO COLL reissues - and who knows how long the RETRO COLL figures will last, made with modern plastics. I'll bet some collectors are keeping a close eye on their Stormtroopers. Lol.
This set is good for me, as I missed the SS Rebel Fleet Trooper. No doubt, the SS product will still be the superior one (I own the SLC Yak Face and the RETRO COLL Yak Face, etc). Would like to see Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru, one day - an obvious choice for HASBRO - surprised it hasn’t happened yet.

I got into Stan quite late (around the release of the ubrikian) and missed out on Han stormtrooper so I’m looking forward to having him to go with my Luke (who is a stan repro so is still pristine white). As someone who has stuck with every retro release as I see them as a continuation of the Kenner line, I can’t express how happy I am to hear this announced because the Disney show fatigue was getting unbearable. I liked when they did the 2 prequel boxsets because they’re actual movies but it doesn’t feel right to pump out waves based on tv shows when waves like this were waiting to happen. Let’s hope walrus man is an updated one like stan’s greedo and boba fetts.
I'm cautiously optimistic about these releases. If they are only released in a boxed set, Walrus Man would be my only duplicate. I'm hoping for new Luke & Han headsculpts for these, but I guess we shall see . . . .

@@AllThings80s They sort of are in pairs. two A list character variants, two troopers (one good and one bad) & the canteen pair. Not perfect I know but I'm still excited for this set. I also think stormtrooper Luke will be on the cards (sooner rather than later). I've often say that I want the Droids and Ewoks series characters to be represented in RC, do you consider these retro pick ups as well? I know they aren't everyone's taste but I always wanted them 😊

@@GeneralMadinesBarber I would have liked to have seen the figure with the early preproduction colours: Walrus Man, was originally painted with brown legs and black hands and flippers. His torso was still orange (also the same sculpt). I think he looked better than the final version - same with most of the preproduction SW figures - especially, the first wave of the EMPIRE figures (Hoth Han, Hoth Rebel Soldier, Bossk, IG-88, etc).

They need to rerelease that Jedi box set. I had it on preorder and they canceled my order. I wish they would do more classic Kenner especially the last 17.
All 5 'new' figures have already been produced by third-party manufacturers. Check out ProCustoms' Sandtrooper......the pauldron add-on is perfect. Whilst I am excited to see what Hasbro produce, like I you, I feel Hasbro are not only late to this party, the selection of figures already in the market does seem odd. I would have preferred Owen, Beru, Antilles, Wedge instead of some of these choices.
I'll pick up one of the new sets; hopefully, hasbro designs a walrusman in the spirit of the SSC Greedo. If they just reissue the 78 Walrus Man... a BIG MISSED opportunity. Regardless, I'm hoping 🤞 stan solo gives 78 Walrus Man and 78 Han Solo the "greedo" treatment in 2025 🙏 😊

I have seen your video and a few others like it, listing the pros and cons for the assortment selection, but I have seen nothing indicating if / when this wave can be pre-ordered. Anything you may be able to pass along would be appreciated.
The figure choices don’t really matter, as I’ve a feeling the RETRO COLL will eventually release ALL the classic Kenner figures - it’ll only be a matter of time before Stormtrooper Luke gets reissued. Hasbro, should reissue the army-building figures separately. I’d buy multiple Stormtroopers.
Whilst I will buy this set (probably two) as you say Dean we already have super high quality Han in Stormtrooper and Fleet trooper from Stan Solo why include them ? also why wasn't the Ahsoka and Book Of Boba felt retros not sold in box sets ? weird. Im not a fan of the six packs idea but I still want new retro figures so its a rock and a hard place scenario :):):)
Why else would they release Yak Face so early in the range? Now they're doing the RFT, Han Stormtrooper, and the Sand Trooper. They didn't bother with the vinyl-caped Jawa because he's an easy one to customise. I wouldn't be surprised if Blue Snags is reissued.
All those are unlicensed knockoffs that dont count. Hopefully, these end up cratering those knockoff figures market value. Stan Solo should have been sued into oblivion a long time ago for producing unlicensed star wars figures and profiteering off of it.
@@rumblehat4357 I have quite a few of the Stan Solo Creations figures. Also, his earlier figures (Smith Lord Creations). His Yak Face easily sh*ts all over the Hasbro version. I don't mind owning (and comparing) both. The OT RETRO COLL is my favourite SW line(s). I have no interest in the modern, over-articulated SW figures also by HASBRO.
All these gen-xers whining about how retro shouldn't include new media crack me up. You guys need to seriously get lives. At best there's maybe a handful of six packs that can be done in the Original Trilogy before they are putting in characters that were so obscure and only in a scene for a fraction of a second. Those will not have heavy demand. Figures from the Mandalorian, Ahsoka, etc are awesome and should also be made.
You're actually way off the mark here. The Retro Collection figures are always in high demand yet the figures from the modern shows end up on clearance.
@@AllThings80s They dont produce as many Original Trilogy figures as they do New Media. The New Media figures go to retail, while the OT figures are just exclusives mostly sold at a handful of online retailers. Other than Mon Mothma, Tarkin, and Snowspeeder luke, the OT retro figures are all almost at RRP in the after market. So I disagree the OT hasbro repros have high demand. The original Kenner figures will always command more after market value.
Hasbro needs to get their heads out of their asses and make these figures more accessible, especially that Jedi box set, the eBay prices should be more than enough reason to reissue it and like you said if they were sold individually like when they first came out you could troop build.

@@AllThings80s They sort of are in pairs. two A list character variants, two troopers (one good and one bad) & the canteen pair. Not perfect I know but I'm still excited for this set. I also think stormtrooper Luke will be on the cards (sooner rather than later).
I've often say that I want the Droids and Ewoks series characters to be represented in RC, do you consider these retro pick ups as well?
I know they aren't everyone's taste but I always wanted them 😊

Is Walrus man going to be the same as the original Kenner figure or a new more accurate design, but still in a vintage style? I automatically assumed that’s what they were doing

@@GeneralMadinesBarber I would have liked to have seen the figure with the early preproduction colours: Walrus Man, was originally painted with brown legs and black hands and flippers. His torso was still orange (also the same sculpt).
I think he looked better than the final version - same with most of the preproduction SW figures - especially, the first wave of the EMPIRE figures (Hoth Han, Hoth Rebel Soldier, Bossk, IG-88, etc).
Nobody knows yet.
@@AllThings80s There's a screenshot of the presentation for the new figures floating around on the 'net (Rebelscum forum, etc) - the classic 1979 Walrus Man is pictured with the other five figures.
They need to rerelease that Jedi box set. I had it on preorder and they canceled my order. I wish they would do more classic Kenner especially the last 17.

All 5 'new' figures have already been produced by third-party manufacturers. Check out ProCustoms' Sandtrooper......the pauldron add-on is perfect. Whilst I am excited to see what Hasbro produce, like I you, I feel Hasbro are not only late to this party, the selection of figures already in the market does seem odd. I would have preferred Owen, Beru, Antilles, Wedge instead of some of these choices.

Hello Dean. Have you seen anything on RUclips officially announcing this wave? I have seen your video and a few others like it, listing the pros and cons for the assortment selection, but I have seen nothing indicating if / when this wave can be pre-ordered. Anything you may be able to pass along would be appreciated.
The only official info is from Hasbro announcing that these figures are in the pipeline to be made. When we get to see them is anyone's guess.

Definitely not Stan Solo and I really don't know much about the other custom makers.
The figure choices don’t really matter, as I’ve a feeling the RETRO COLL will eventually release ALL the classic Kenner figures - it’ll only be a matter of time before Stormtrooper Luke gets reissued.
Hasbro, should reissue the army-building figures separately. I’d buy multiple Stormtroopers.

Whilst I will buy this set (probably two) as you say Dean we already have super high quality Han in Stormtrooper and Fleet trooper from Stan Solo why include them ? also why wasn't the Ahsoka and Book Of Boba felt retros not sold in box sets ? weird. Im not a fan of the six packs idea but I still want new retro figures so its a rock and a hard place scenario :):):)

Why else would they release Yak Face so early in the range? Now they're doing the RFT, Han Stormtrooper, and the Sand Trooper. They didn't bother with the vinyl-caped Jawa because he's an easy one to customise.

Four of the six have already been done by multiple companies: Stan Solo, Procustom, etc. Hasbro is VERY late to the party.
All those are unlicensed knockoffs that dont count. Hopefully, these end up cratering those knockoff figures market value. Stan Solo should have been sued into oblivion a long time ago for producing unlicensed star wars figures and profiteering off of it.

@@rumblehat4357 I have quite a few of the Stan Solo Creations figures. Also, his earlier figures (Smith Lord Creations). His Yak Face easily sh*ts all over the Hasbro version. I don't mind owning (and comparing) both.
The OT RETRO COLL is my favourite SW line(s). I have no interest in the modern, over-articulated SW figures also by HASBRO.

All these gen-xers whining about how retro shouldn't include new media crack me up. You guys need to seriously get lives. At best there's maybe a handful of six packs that can be done in the Original Trilogy before they are putting in characters that were so obscure and only in a scene for a fraction of a second. Those will not have heavy demand.
Figures from the Mandalorian, Ahsoka, etc are awesome and should also be made.
You're actually way off the mark here. The Retro Collection figures are always in high demand yet the figures from the modern shows end up on clearance.
@@AllThings80s They dont produce as many Original Trilogy figures as they do New Media. The New Media figures go to retail, while the OT figures are just exclusives mostly sold at a handful of online retailers. Other than Mon Mothma, Tarkin, and Snowspeeder luke, the OT retro figures are all almost at RRP in the after market. So I disagree the OT hasbro repros have high demand. The original Kenner figures will always command more after market value.

Hasbro needs to get their heads out of their asses and make these figures more accessible, especially that Jedi box set, the eBay prices should be more than enough reason to reissue it and like you said if they were sold individually like when they first came out you could troop build.
