    Mustaine writes some epically challenging riffs in even more challenging time signatures. Some of his riffs are so difficult. I have a massive appreciation for the people that can teach it to us.

    That descending riff is wrong, it is 7,8 -. 5,7 - 4,5 - 3 - then the b power chord

    Intro riff : 7frt b harmonic and instead of 3 n 4 harmonic .... try 5fret harmonic on 5 & 4 string(jus like when u tune hittin harmonic)... its more comfortable !!!

    This was certainly a very well done lesson! I've been struggling with a lot of things even though I've played guitar for over 4 years.
    I can't for the life of me downpick the powerchord -> harmonic part at all. I mean I can't downpick pretty much anything, but given the context of the video I focus on this song. I trained around 15 mins a day, start from a veeeery slooooow speed and increase the tempo slowly, just as everyone tells you to do. After 2 months of regular training, I'm nowhere near the required tempo, and I've quit playing the guitar at least 4 times during the 4 year period because my picking hand is absolutely atrocious, especially on the low E string.
    Don't know what I'm trying to accomplish with this comment, maybe what I'm asking is this: Could it be that my hand just isn't physiologically capable of this sort of movement? I can alternate pick much better, the powerchord -> harmonic part is pretty easy that way, but I just feel terrible that after all my effort, I can't downpick anything. Sorry for the rambling, and thanks again for the tutorial :)

      +RepertoireSix It`s just bad technique, everyone is capable of playing ANYTHING unless you really don`t have 2 arms or hands. Everything else is bad technique. I suggest you get a guitar teacher, there`s A LOT of beginner mistakes that can hinder your learning process something as simple as how you hold your pick can be the culprit.
      I`m amusing you know how to properly pick and you are just having difficulties down picking the string changes of the natural harmonics. A very simple drill you can do is, play the chromatic scale (Frets 1 through 4 on the Low E string) then jump down to the A string and D string etc etc etc. Do this ONLY downpicking at a very slow tempo and then do it alternative picking, (Up and Down) i did that quite a lot as a beginner and to this day i still do that drill.

      Despite knowing nothing about you, I doubt you're absolutely incapable of downpick badassery. But it's so crucial to achieving the right sound in thrash metal. Chances are, there's something in your style that's just blocking your ability to downpick the way you want to. Some things I've done to get past the same problem:
      --- changing your pick grip (two fingers vs three fingers...I find two fingers better for rapid downpicking)
      --- experimenting with different body types of guitars (I find Les Paul wayyyyyy more comfy for downpicking than Strats, for instance)
      --- playing easier/slower songs to practice (I recommend "Jump In The Fire" by Metallica)
      --- when you attempt Tornado Of Souls, stop and restart the song as soon as you fuck up (hopefully, this will irritate you into success)
      I hope this helps! \m/ \m/

    I think you missed the little transition bit on the A string at the end of the chorus that goes something like 5--4-0-1-2 (the last B being the first chord of the next verse).

    • @meshzzizk
      @meshzzizk 8 лет назад

      This variation is basically played instead of the D power chord on the last repetition of the chorus riff.
