- This is my user impressions and review on the Pulsar Merger LRF XP50 Thermal Binocular. I've had this device from Pulsar in real hunting usage conditions, multiple times a week for a few months so far. It's an amazing thermal scanner and well worth considering if you're in the market. This isn't a "how to" video with boring unboxing and basic menu function explanations. This is my handle on the Merger as a shooter and user.
For those interested I have purchased this device since filming my review. I've put my money where my mouth is I think that highly of the Mergers 👌
Big thanks Pulsar in Europe and Extravision in Australia for sending me the new Merger to play with. Without support from companies who are proactive in the hunting industry like this, these video's are mostly not possible with the speed tech is evolving.

Credit to you for being the first reviewer I've seen have the balls to openly speak about the matter.
People need to know what they're buying and deserve to hear the goid AND the bad points.
A lot of reviewers are wary about criticising the manufacturers. A review should be an unbiased appraisal.
Good man... keep it up fella.
All the best from the UK 🇬🇧
Thanks mate
Thanks for your honest and direct review on the Pulsar Merger LRF XP50 Thermal Binocular. Originally I was going for a scope however have changed thoughts recently and you have talked me into buying the Pulsar Merger LRF XP50 Thermal Binocular.
Good choice!
I've seen many reviews...I also do them for a distributor. But this one is far the best I've ever seen. Congrats!
I really appreciate such positive feedback, thank you 🍺
Ho Lee Chit your a great hunter that knows his business. Glad you take time to explain your equipment.
Alway follow your hunting it’s uplifting to the guys like me.
Thanks Jay
An excellent review, as always "Professional" Well done mate.
Thanks Russ
A great rundown, certainly information to remember, good job 👍
Thanks Peter
Great timing, I am trying to convince myself that I could use a thermal bino set, Cheers
I'm glad to see that you can afford these Bino's at around $7 Thousand dollars. I enjoy your vids and your professionalism, always taking the most humane kill shot.
Great review. I agree the LRF function is great when used on someone else's device! For now I'll carry on with my old hat xm30s 😆👌 but it does fit in my phone pocket on me coat 👍👍
Those little Axions are great being so compact 👌
Nice review mate as always ! Cracking unit
That they are Kevin 💪
Great stuff as usual - well done
Thanks Trevor
Great video! Thank you!
I love your videos brother. I look forwards to each one. This is about my favorite channel for this type of stuff. Well done and you have a great relaxed demeanor that just makes them even more fun to watch. Awesome stuff! Strange in that I see guys posted to you four days ago, yet I just got the notification a few minutes ago. YT sucks.
I did only make this video public today. But unsubscriptions are a huge issue for myself and many other people making videos and trying to grow 😩
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK They are indeed, but I haven't had that issue with your channel yet. I have on several other channels of various types I sub to though. They are either farming or hunting/shooting channels. Coincidence? I doubt it.............
Not coincidence at all I fear 😱
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK Nope, just more greenie weenie "the world is coming to an end and it's your fault" fear mongering crap.
Unreal review. Im just starting to get into this so seeing almost the top of the line is unfortunately out of my budget lol. But wow Great review dude. These slay my mates monocular which is actually pretty decent. but these look next level
Thanks mate. Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
I'm impressed, great video review 👍
Cheers
I doubt if anybody provides a fairer and unbiased appraisal of these devices. Thanks to your previous Helion assessment, I too bought one and I concur with all your comments. I’m being recommended by the company to go Merger, but I like to hold and scan with one hand and one handed operation from your comments doesn’t seem to handy using the Merger. The LRF is a real boon though, so I’m surprised that an LRF version wasn’t brought out for the Helion. Great review, look forward to more of the same and hunting.
Thanks Derek. The Mergers are definitely an amazing device to use. Even though two hands are generally required they are bloody comfortable to use and the button ergos are excellent.
How u going Nathan. I’m still here watching & enjoying & wishing I was a bit younger & still hunting. All this fancy gear doesn’t make you a better hunter than me, but geez wish they were about during my hunting days back in kiwi land 1/2 my Life away. More hunting vids pls. Cheers 🍻🦉
There's always more content on Patreon mate. But you'll have to be patient on the public platforms to see them roll out 👌
Great review
2:39 old mate swings in for a quick g'day 😆
Why is Thermal so expensive in this day and age ... The tech been around since 1947, is it because the government don't want every second household to have this technology or what...
Probably it’s demand I would think these companies sell to the government and they pay plenty cause it’s not there money.
It's the Uranium coating on the lense pal... (a rare earth element). Well over half the money in the merger will be sat in the lense.
Until they find an alternative coating they will always be expensive... as they would be if made of gold or platinum.
You can get cheaper thermals, but the lense is 'way' smaller.
That's the main issue pal, just the rarity of the material used.
Hope this helps👍
old man was in the SAS vietnam, yeh they had it in 66 , there a game changer
because they’re cool AF and they know it. 😂
@@MKChase-uj9vx - it’s not Uranium it’s Germanium, big difference, it’s a grown crystal metal very expensive.
Your videos are getting better and better, countinue the good work! Thanks to you I’m the happy owner of a xp 50 LRF ( you told me to wait for the LRF well before everyone was aware they were releasing it) thanks. My question: will we see an integrated ballistic calculator soon incorporated in the XP 50 line?
Who knows what they are up too, anything is possible.
Hummm…. I like that. So far, I have been very happy using Strelok Thermion reticles for holdover as you are doing.
What a fantastic piece of kit but sadly out of financial range for most of us I reckon so I'll be waiting for a good s/h set (I hope). You review is very honest and most won't want even touch any criticism or "say" which has a better image. Many put up comparisons but we all know it's the eye that the best measure. I think pulsar release models that are ready to go whereas some may release then put out a patch so resolve some issues. I think thats why there's a premium to pay for pulsar for the R and D and later release. Thanks for a great review. I hope they come up with an alternative to the uranium coatings on the lenses.
I think all brands make mistakes upon release. But must say they got these pretty bloody good straight off the bat.
Appreciate the comment Gary and I'm glad you enjoyed the review.
Thanks mate, I am night blind. This would be something very handy.
Some years ago I looked at some military bino's. They had bearing, in mils, and range , in meters. It could take a photo and send it back to HQ. Then thay is more weight to carry.
If you buy it, it's gotta be good. Excellent review mate :)
(Caveat: Fussy bastard. Can relate!)
Nothing wrong with being fussy 👌
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK True!
Good review Nath
Thanks mate
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK I am waiting for my XG 35 LRF I think it should be a good little unit
@@hamishjack3435 I have one now, they are with firmware 2.0 👌
Great review keep it up!! are you comfortable attaching the device to your quad bike set up from a connection/stability standpoint?
Thanks Brett. Connect is 1/4 thread, same as everything else I've run up there. Nothing has fallen off or failed yet 🤞
Great honest review Nathan . Lovely bit of kit . Ps are you using 308 subsonic ammo? Which bullets and weight are you using please, ps have you tried the sub X bullets , have you tried cast lead bullets on pigs ? Thanks ,
Hi mate, yes I'm running subs and they are the 190gr Sub X projectiles (reloads)
Cheers
Cool gear
Absolutely
Great honest review 🙂👍
Which ball head you using on the tripod plz ? Regards Daz UK 👌😋
That's just a cheap Innorel RT80C and N44 ball head Daz.
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK cheers buddy much appreciated 👍
Good informative clip…Is there a new updated version of the Merger on the horizon?
They announced the Merger HD XL50 at ShotShow.
👍
Great review, how far away can you spot an animal like a deer with out being able to identify it? Also would this be effective during the day to find animals in the forest?
You mean detection range. On a human sizes target that is rated at 1800m. Thermal does work on daylight but it's not as impressive (depending on environment heat).
The issues with getting back to your normal night vision is always going to be there. So any reductions is a good step forward, who wants to go tripping over things after you've spotted your target.
Q.maravilha de binóculo.
Nathan do you carry your binos in a harness? If so which do you use please
Kuiu Pro XL, and that's a yes
Would you please recommend a chest binoculars pouch that is suitable for these large binoculars which I have purchased. Thanks John
Hi John. I run the Kuiu Pro XL and it's great, nice and wide.
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK Thank you, I'll try to find an Australian supplier.
Wow at $7000 a lot of money.
Good gear isn't cheap 👌. Compared to the $9000 Accolade equivalent I'd say they are great value.
Hey question I need a Thermo binoculars were the I can see the heat temperature do you know of any?
That sounds like a device suitable for building or inspection type work. Unsure of anything in the outdoor industry that does that.
Thank you for this excellent report. I made use of it was great but i have a question which is better xp50 pulser or raptor rg 50l hikmicro. Help me. I'm confused, xp detects up to 1800 and rg50l up to 2600
Overall, I didn't like the Raptors at all when I had them.
Thank you my friend and have a nice day Is the xp50 european or chinese and where can i find the cheapest one?
Pulsar is made in Lithuania
Hello, my friend, I bought the xp50 according to your description, and the weather for me is 45 degrees, and the ground is hot, and the game details are not clear. Is it clear in cold weather, what is your temperature at the time of shooting
I use the Merger's in all Australian conditions, but like all my thermal use it's at night.
Thank you for answering my question. It is very hot in the city where I am, and deer are not easily detected. You said that due to the cold weather perfecting your detection I'd go back and adjust the settings, it might be a bit more obvious
is there a monocular version of this with a similar quality in picture?
Yes, the Telos line.
Can i see at night bird size 50 cm from 1500-2000 Meters ?
Really i need that answer please
Thanks
No, you would not see that IMO.
Binoculars are great, camera mount not so much
How long does external battery last used continuously thanks
Around 3hrs as I mentioned in the review 👍🏻
Ok thank you
I don't have the cash to be a big tech investor but THAT was an incredible review.
Keep Australia Australian.
When is Ozzie going to revolt and take their country back?
You are being oppressed big time.
Glad you enjoyed the review 👌
Why do both batterys go flat when you are using the thermal
Sorry I don't understand your question?
How do these work for birds?
Depends on the birds and backdrop. I haven't really searched in trees but pigeons in buildings they 100% smash that role.
can you use it day time
Yes, but there's less thermal range if the environment is hot.
The base magnification is disappointing. Why not 3.5?
I wouldn't use them if they were 3.5x, the field of view would be too narrow. Thermals are not like glass optics at all.
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK Good point. Thanks!
Have you ever seen any strange unknown animals in the bush
Not that I know about
He's mainly out on farms, lands been cleared for hundreds of years, ie he wont find much unusual, its in the Mountains, National Parks and Army Land where the interesting stuff is.
ARE THESE ACTIVE OR PASSIVE NIGHTVISION
It's thermal - passive
Has anyone used these against the telos xp50 lrf?
Telos has a better image as its a sub 18mk sensor. And that's a yes to your question.
@EDGEoftheOUTBACK Thanks mate, you're a legend. Love what you're doing
I love thermals for pest control, but I wish that there was more policing of idiots using them on public land.
Mate of mine had his dog shot because an idiot saw something hot and 4 legged through thermals in the bush, thought that was good enough target id
That's terrible 😩 unfortunately the same has been happening with spotlights for years. It's not the tools fault but the user.
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK absolutely. Hunting after sundown is banned on public land here (NZ) but there's a certain sort of person who just can't resist temptation.
went to the site to check price and I guess they dont care to tell you what the price is. May be good but I wouldnt buy anything a company that doesnt bother to tell they think its made out of gold and diamonds and if you have to ask how much, you cant afford it.
Most distributors or manufacturers don't list pricing. That's what local agents do 👌
how much boss?
Glad you watched the video 🤦♂️
$?
I covered that in the video 😉
In your country is very expensive, open duble. I do not understand why...in europe is 4400 dolars.
Have you ever put 4400 EUR into a currency calculator 😎
... That's about $7000 AUD.
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK you you delette my comment?
No, I spotted it popped up then it was gone? Maybe the algorithm did if you said a bad word?
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK i seed dolars not euro.
@@mariusicavm I still don't think we are getting anywhere as the price "converted" is still very close to $7,000 AUD 🤦♂️
How much record time do you get?
I recall when new, at the highest quality it's 16hrs.
