the instructor should gauge the learner drivers ability and confidence levels before putting their client and other road users in potentially deadly situations. Before the "age of entitlement", we used to gain confidence and learn basic control skills in car-parks and back-streets before being thrown into the deep end.

Even the dash cam, clearly inexperienced by tailgating, then not looking ahead preparing to give way to an indicating bus. I think the person making this situation something even close to being deadly is the dash cam here.
I agree they should have been a little more lenient on the learner, but the instructor should NOT have taken the learner into such a high volume, high traffic area if they hadn't had a lot more understanding of how to handle such a situation. Teach them right, as this channel shows there are already enough untrained mongs that have been given a licence and let loose on our roads. Maybe DCOA should be required watching for all learner drivers of what NOT to do on the road??
My driving teacher had that situation in driving license test. The instructor told them to shut the car of got out went to the a-hole driver and assured him if he didn’t move his car by the time he was back in car of the driving school he would make sure to do all in his power to revoke the idiots license. Needless to say that idiot was gone beforsten instructor was even near the car 😂

If one of the lines or lanes is a dedicated turning lane (left or right) you must not lane filter using this lane. By turning left from the right turn lane, he broke the law. Even so, for lane filtering. Traffic must be slow or stopped, the time of the green light would make any attempt to start lane filter illegal. Also "Safe to do so?" is also part of the rule.
Just red light cameras would do. Speeding at traffic lights isn't usually an issue unless it's combined with running the red lights. So you'd get them on the red light camera anyway. It wouldn't immediately take the red light speeders off the road, but they would have to choose to correct their bad behaviour, or lose their license next time.

Most of the time it's just poor observation skills and a habit of looking only a few metres ahead. Most of them likely don't see it until half a second before you hear the horn or see the evasive action. It's also worth noting that we know danger is coming due to the nature of the channel. But while driving, you pass hundreds, perhaps thousands of instances each day that DON'T present a danger but look exactly the same until about 1 second before it's a big problem.
I don't think this was an obvious potential hazard at all. The other car was going at a slow enough speed to stop at the line so there was really just half a second to react, and when taking into account by that point the other car would have been in your peripheral vision... You only saw it because you were looking for it and expecting it in a dashcam accident video compilation.
In London I believe there is a squad of cops that take dash cam video with number plate detail and charge drivers, I can't wait till we get that in Oz!
Same as in Australia, they not only need the video but a witness statement from the operator of the dash cam and that witness needs to attend and give evidence in court, if necessary.

By turning left from the right turn lane, he broke the law.
Even so, for lane filtering. Traffic must be slow or stopped, the time of the green light would make any attempt to start lane filter illegal.
Also "Safe to do so?" is also part of the rule.

Most of the time it's just poor observation skills and a habit of looking only a few metres ahead.
Most of them likely don't see it until half a second before you hear the horn or see the evasive action.
It's also worth noting that we know danger is coming due to the nature of the channel. But while driving, you pass hundreds, perhaps thousands of instances each day that DON'T present a danger but look exactly the same until about 1 second before it's a big problem.
This is why my home state has hazard perception tests before you graduate to the P's.
I don't think this was an obvious potential hazard at all. The other car was going at a slow enough speed to stop at the line so there was really just half a second to react, and when taking into account by that point the other car would have been in your peripheral vision... You only saw it because you were looking for it and expecting it in a dashcam accident video compilation.

In London I believe there is a squad of cops that take dash cam video with number plate detail and charge drivers, I can't wait till we get that in Oz!

Same as in Australia, they not only need the video but a witness statement from the operator of the dash cam and that witness needs to attend and give evidence in court, if necessary.
The majority of these clips are such low resolution that the plates are illegible, let alone the identity of the driver.

Hobart is trialing scramble crossings at some intersections. When we went over to NZ a few years ago a bunch of the intersections in the inner city in Christchurch had scramble crossings and it seemed to work well.
We have those intersections in Brisbane.
