On of the worst battles if not the worst in Canadian history. I know it shows British flags, but the allies had commandos while Canada had the infantry, suffering over 50% casualties.
America could easily invade Canada

Churchill trying not to force his former colony nations into doomed and ill supported beach landings during a world war challenge (impossible)
I'm pretty sure Churchill was pressured by the Canadian government to deploy Canadian troops there. By that point in the war, Canadians hadn't seen any action in Europe and the Canadian gov wanted a PR victory
shut up. it was suppost to be a raid not an invasion. testing the waters basically.
Churchill was under pressure by an impatient Canadian government to use the Canadian military.
Not just that but there were more British casualties on Gallipoli than there were ANZAC soldiers so your statement really is bollocks
Looks like another simple minded idiot with no historic knowledge whatsoever
1) it wasn't an invasion, it was a raid
2).Churchil was asked by the Canadian gov. to include Canadians
It’s insane to think that all of those numbers were people. They had names. Families. Homes.stories. This blow my mind.
also, the fact that 1 flag is means 10, 000+ soldiers is even more insane
it doesnt in this video@@TouenTheTotallyNormalIdiot
And just think, this was merely a learning exercise and a way to show commitment to landing to the Russians. They intended to only hold a short period, destroy things and leave. Yet the RAF lost more planes than the Germans and so many died. The only good thing might have come from this is glaring weaknesses in how the Allies planned a landing were seen, and this made them change all the future landing plans which helped save many many more lives.
casualtes does not mean kia
Casualties can mean KIA, WIA, MIA, or captured
I've studied this battle since its 25th anniversary in 1967. Your graphics are misleading. You have more British flags (Union Jacks) than Canadian Red Ensigns on the two central beaches (White and Red). Those beaches were attacked by the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry, Essex Scottish, Fusiliers Mount Royale and the Calgary Tanks; all units of the Canadian Army's 2nd Division. The only British troops on those beaches were a small force Royal Marine "A" Commandos. Yellow beach on the extreme right of the map shows a Canadian flag where in actuality it was assaulted by # 3 Commando of the British Army. Since this action saw heavy casualties suffered by the Canadian troops especially on their assault of the Dieppe harbour, it would be appropriate to see the scale of their involvement properly acknowledged. Also, the Canadian Troops at Puys (Blue Beach) were pinned down at the shore line. Your video shows them progressing inland. That clearly wasn't the case.
So you put this down to a Canadian defeat then?
I haven't researched this battle so I'm not sure of the objectives so I'm basing my opinion purely from this video, but it appears to be a canadian defeat considering the massive casualty difference.@@cpj93070
The majority of boots on the ground were Canadian but your comment is too simplistic. Lord Louis Mountbatten and his British combined operations command planned this raid. General Montgomery, the RAF and RN cut down the strength of the assets they were willing to commit to the plan. The raid under the title "Operation Rutter" was all set to go in June and was cancelled after the troops were already onboard the transport ships. Then, thanks to the brilliant strategy of Combined OPs, the raid was remounted under the designation "Operation Jubilee" on August 19, 1942 despite the fact that all the units involved had known that Dieppe was the objective and that they would likely be talking about it afterwards. The Canadian Army was untried in combat. It had not been engaged since arriving in England in 1940 so there was political pressure to have them do something significant and Churchill wanted something to show Stalin that the western allies weren't just letting the Soviets fight the Nazis on their own. For Canada and Canadians Dieppe was one of the worst days of the war along with the Defense of Hong Kong (also mandated by Churchill and agreed to by politicians). It was an allied defeat despite the valiant efforts of the all the forces involved, Canadian, British and let's not forget the 50 US Rangers who participated as well. Dieppe is the reason the allied invasion of Normandy was directed against beaches and not a significant channel port.
@@cpj93070nah just british sending their puppets to die in battle they couldn't win like Gallipoli but on small level
@@AmritDillon Wrong Indian boy, course you would say that about The British as they were your masters, Just because Britain had a quarter of the world as an empire you are going to have clowns like yourself hate on the country that ruled you for hundreds of years, you get pathetic clowns, that even blame the British people today for the British empire of the past.
it was a failure in statistics but considerable knowledge was gathered for D-Day not even 2 years later. A lot of unknowns became knowns that couldn't have been found out without performing this raid.
Like what? Enemies also change their defenses after an attack. What did the allies learn? How not to get killed the next time around? Which road gets us to Paris faster? I've read that this "raid" was only a probe into the german defenses. Did Hitler divert a large portion of his forces to counter this in 1942? No, most were on the march to Stalingrad. It wasnt until the american landings in italy that a significant amount of german forces were redirected to fight on the western front. This raid only killed the doomed allied soldiers that participated in it. Mostly Canadian.
They learned that an attack on city or harbour directly is not working.

Your country lost few thousand people.
