Unfortunately, the animation explains nothing at all. It completely ignores the conflict between China and the USSR and the war with Japan as well. It also remains completely unclear how a few thousand remaining Reds became a few million by the end of the World War II and where they had all been in the meantime.

I’m not saying this map is fully accurate but when the communists who definitely had more than the said amount in 1936 teamed up with the republic to kick out the Japanese behind the scenes many began supporting the communists and converted during northern China’s occupation especially because communism was strictly anti-Japanese so it probably had to do with hating the invader as well.

The reality was that Chiang Kai Shek was brutally suppressing anyone who would dare protest against the draconian living conditions. Millions were starving and more than half of the population was illiterate. This was happening since 1911. When the civil war broke out, KMT soldiers were defecting to the communist side.

Chinese here. My grandparent became an orphan during this time, but from what they said the Nationalists lost the will of Chang Kai-shek due to the Nationalists intentionally destroying the dam and flooding my grandfather's hometown, and due to the Communists promising land, jobs, and homes after the war. I think at the time the Nationalists didn't really inspire the people at all the same way that the communists did against the Japanese.

Would be nice to add in the context that the Sino-Japanese war/WW2 occurred during this same period when both sides formed temporary alliance against a common enemy, so the civil war was not a continuous conflict but went on and off. It'd also be nice to know if the casualty numbers include the S-J war casualty or just for the civil war, given that for many years the Japanese war was the major conflict.

I mean, the nationalists were entirely occupied fighting the Japanese during WWII and the Soviet Union handed all of the Chinese land and equipment they took in the process to the communists after the war ended instead of the legitimate government. The communists then attacked with Soviet backing while the legitimate government was completely exhausted and out of supplies.
I'm pretty sure that had way more to do with how things turned out than the efforts of the surviving 10,000 communist fighters.

TL:DR, the KMT was bled utterly dry by the Japanese. The only reason they didn't break completely was because Japan was tied down in the Pacific Theater and couldn't fully commit to China(The entire reason they started the Pacific War was both to grab resources for the Chinese front, cut off their Southern Supply routes through Indochina and Burma, and cover the Homeislands from invasion so the entire garrison protecting them could be sent to China. This was delayed after Doolittle as they felt the carriers were too big a threat to leave. Had Japan won at Midway and Coral Sea and destroyed the carriers, the plan was they could send the entire home island garrison to China for a massive offensive to take Chongqing. If that had happened China would have broken by 43.)
The CCP forces gained significant ground in rural areas, both because the KMT was getting badly depleted and because much of the rural population was sick of Japanese occupation and felt betrayed by Chiang having not liberated them yet. So they gained significant ground in the rural areas in the North. And the Russians just straight up gave all of Manchuria and a bunch of equipment to the CCP in 1946 when the war was over, giving them plenty of room to manuever and fallback if needed. And even then the KMT pushed them back to some degree until late 47 when they just utterly ran out of skilled soldiers and morale started collapsing.

After the Communist Party gained power, it wanted to establish a new face of China through profound political, economic, and military reforms
As for the national name, it can be changed or not, and its legality is decided by the political consultation of the entire Chinese people. Ultimately, it is decided not to continue the national name and to change it.
If the country name is not changed, it is the establishment of a new government of the Republic of China, which is the establishment of a new China by the Communist Party. If we change the country's name and establish the government of the People's Republic of China, it will also be the establishment of a new China by the Communist Party.

Whenever you see a map on which Tibet is excluded from China as for 1912 ~ 1947, the map is just bs. Even at its weakest moment, legitimate Chinese government of the period made enormous efforts to ascertain its authority over Tibetan local government, it even, by persuasion, defeated vicious British plot to lure Tibetan officials who were ignorant about int'l law into admitting British privilege in Tibet.
Some may argue there was signed papers on which Tibetan local government declared independence way earlier than the collapse of the Qing empire, but that was a scam. When Tibet undisputed Chinese soil back then, the local level authorities had no such right to sign anything with a foreign governmental body without permission and consent from the central government unless otherwise stated, which is the conventional practice even in contemporary world politics. China can’t sign treaties with Texas or Scotland or Catalonia to declare them independent states, neither could the British nor the Raj do so to Chinese land.
