      Yeah! I found that a lot of the discussion about Pocket Camp was mostly from people reacting/complaining about the Twitter posts to show off that month's items, rather than from people who actually play it. The lack of much positive coverage for the game is mostly what led to to make the video honestly!

      @@Tampafan33 The game makes it easy enough to go about ignoring them if you play actively. As I said in the video I think a lot of people's negativity for them stems from a knee-jerk reaction, moreso than actual experience.
      Doesn't mean people aren't allowed to dislike them, I've had a few nice discussions in the comment section with people who have just agreed to disagree on this, which is more than fine! If they want to not engage with a business practice they disagree with, and choose to do that by abstaining from certain games, then more power to them!

    I think my favorite part of pocket camp is that you don't *have* to pay, and there's always tons to do, it feels so much more rewarding to finish my dailies throughout the day on pocket camp than to get on new horizons and do those dailies

    • @Neremik2
      @Neremik2  Год назад +15

      Oh yeah! I didn't touch on it in the video, but I like how on certain dailies that require you to catch bugs and fish, that you're rewarded with honey and throw nets respectively! I always thought that was a pretty neat idea for a reward, since it makes the thing you'd just been doing easier!
      Little things like that are in a few places throughout the game, and I think they add up!

    I played 800 hours of ACNH, so I definitely got my money's worth, but I was still disappointed by the lack of features even after the last big update. I liked the amount of furniture in ACPC, and the fact that even clothes were craftable. I wish they would at least let us get specific items if we have a villager's Amiibo card! It almost feels like ACPC is given more love at times, but sadly my mobile device isn't compatible anymore, so I can't even play it. 😔

    • @Neremik2

      It's unfortunate that they had to stop supporting some older devices, I assume the game ended up getting to heavy to run of some of them?
      It does certainly feel like PC got more love though, I agree! Especially when you look at how much less it earned compared to NH, it does seem strange that it got more of the focus! My guess is that it's either easier and cheaper to develop for, or they know it'll keep generating them income.

    @notrealnamenotatall2476 Год назад +36

    It's a fun game, but I just can't with the grind vs. payout. They simply don't give you enough Leaf Tickets. To put it in perspective, one random draw at a fortune cookie is 50 tickets and usually the special crafting items are around 100 tickets. Tickets are 20 for a dollar, which means you have to spend $3 just for one random try. Even the helper plan only gives you 60 tickets a month. Paying regular money but only getting one sure try.
    I had to grind for months just to get some of one event, and even though I got what I wanted it doesn't feel satisfying to then have to plan on grinding for months again in case an event comes that I want.

      @Neremik2  Год назад +8

      That's fair, while they've certainly gotten better at monetisation they certainly could always do a little better! Honestly, just changing the amount of leaf tickets they give you from 3 to 5 would be an appreciated change.

    This game takes all my money (I willingly give it) but i play religiously everyday. I had started playing when it launched but left it alone for three years then picked it back up a couple years ago when ACNH came out.
    It’s so worth it because there are three different events every month (gardening,fishing and scavenging) where you can collect different furniture sets, outfits etc. and every single month has a different theme. I think it’s so worth it.

    You can decorate a cabin with 3 STORIES, a camper van with two and a pretty big sized campsite. There are THOUSANDS of event items that you can get for free and use, way more options than New Horizons. Fortune cookies you can still get for free sometimes by luck and getting them in a rotation at timmy and tommys cart OR if a friend gifts you a fortune cookie gift! You can 100% have fun with Pocket Camp without spending any money AND STILL GET LOTS OF ITEMS! The events do get repetitive, but there is always a reason to log in and check in on it every day at least. So yeah idk why it gets hated on so much when yes it does have microtransactions and some things cost money but also you can still stack up leaf tickets for free if u play a lot and have patience. And there are still so many free items to decorate with like. The customization options in this game is insane compared to New Horizons

    I’ve been playing since launch, and while I don’t play daily (stardew and sims got those time slots) I’ve always loved this game in the AC line the most because I’ve always had something to go back to. I like having little daily quests and being able to call up people I’ve met but don’t live at my camp to stop by my camp and see what I’ve built, or to stop by an island so I can build up their friendship. I like how I can even go so far as to edit the skyline of my camp, which I can’t do on ACNH or any other games if Im remembering correctly. "Pocket Camp" is like a sticker album that you will NEVER complete. The stickers (decorations, clothes, furniture, etc.) have only an aesthetic purpose that does not influence the game. Unlike the relaxation of the console versions, in Pocket Camp there are countdowns (events) that force you to enter daily if you want to get those stickers, but in the same way you will never be able to complete your album, not even paying with real money since these countdowns are renewed: in some you have to touch the screen here and in others touch the screen there, without much effort but rushing to enter daily.
    There are other alternatives with more relaxation, immersion and magic that Pocket Camp does not have, and cheaper, even Wild World or New Leaf is more profitable.

    • @Neremik2
      @Neremik2  Год назад +4

      I can get that, there's probably a lot of people who have no tolerance for FOMO tactics used who don't wish to play and that's fine! I don't think Pocket Camp could replace a main entry in the franchise, but I personally think that so long ad you play it casually and don't fret over each item, it's a pretty fun thing to play on the side!

    • @MarcosFull
      @MarcosFull Год назад +1

      @@Neremik2 Totally agree with you and the way you put it. I also tried to take the "game" easy, relaxed, unhurried and not trying to get all the stickers: unfortunately I didn't. While I appreciate that it doesn't have the hype of conventional advertising, I felt like there's not enough reward for tapping the screen here and there - no strategy, skill, etc. What it does offer is that one can find a sense of completeness: but then again, the app doesn't allow you to achieve that. It is a constant reminder that you must get all this and all that, which is renewed again and again in different but similar forms at the same time. It is well optimized, it has no errors, it is well localized to other languages, but it fails in what it offers even though thousands of people don't even notice it. It's just my experience after a long back and forth.

After a long time, I also have ACNH, I came back to the game to try it once more cause ACNH was kinda done. But I wanted to keep playing Animal Crossing. So I tried it again. And holy cow am I addicted. I basically have the game open all day, checking on events and villagers any second I have free time. I LOVE to decorate all the different locations and still would like more space to use all the awesome funiture I collected over the time.
    I'm really glad you also mentioned the leaf tickets. I rarely buy any myself, cause there are just so many ways to get them in-game for free. If you save up on them to buy something you really want, it's actually quite satisfying to achieve that. And even if you decide to buy some, they're not very expensive. I've also used the subscriptions quite a few times for a limited time period if I needed a little extra help with events and such.

    I was wondering why my time with City Folk and New Leaf felt more fulfilling (and I've probably spent about the same time between those two and New Horizons). And I think you nailed it with the structuring and how the player is rewarded. There's a good reason I've never completed the art section of the museum vs bugs and fish (that give tools and a dedicated menu to watch fill up). Or why Gulliver was too much of a pain to commit to in NH.
    The Nook Miles rewards could be considered a continuation of the house loan, the town fund, etc, but idk. The reward of more NMTs and completion doesn't feel as strong as seeing new features added to your town or that flag by your house.
    I hope the next game can bring a little more structure to the grinding back

      I'd like to hope so too! I've heard New Horizons described as a "designers paradise" in a few places, and I honestly think that's pretty accurate to what we got. That said, I'd like to think now they've got the more design orientated features out of the way in NH, that perhaps the next game might be a bit more balanced!

    The thing with Pocket Camp (and similar mobile titles like it) is that a lot of people never really seem to think through what might happen if the devs ever decided to pull the plug and shut down their servers for good. You would instantly lose all the things you worked so hard on and maybe even spend a lot of money on. Woosh, it'll just be gone. Regarding its success over the past years, I'm sure Pocket Camp will stick around for a long while to come (after all, its monetization model seems quite fruitful), but some day it'll be gone and I would hate the feeling to have invested so much time and money into a thing without having anything to show for it one day. At least with the console versions (Gamecube, Wii, DS & Switch!), I can always come back to them even years after release without the fear of losing anything. Even if they might have stopped support for their online features.

    • @Neremik2

      I always assumed that they'd announce end of support a ways in advance and probably stop purchases a few months in advance. Having seen a few other apps get the same treatment, I wouldn't be too surprised if the community took it upon themselves to make their own revival project although I assume that'd require people to start over for.

I even have a few people in my friends list that I added in like 2019 who are still active as well! Having the different themes for the events every month is really fun and all the seasonal items encourage you to redecorate the various spaces from time to time. It's overall a nice little pass-time. Totally missed out on that stargazing event though lol
    One thing I actually appreciate about Leaf Tickets is being able to earn them in game fairly often. Sure it's not a lot at a time usually, but I'm so used to other mobile games with a Leaf-Ticket-equivalent type currency being like a "Here's 30 for starting the game and the only way to ever get more is to spend real money." Same with how occasionally you'll have one of the special fortune cookies in that little shop for bells instead of leaf tickets.

      The cookie system is usually okay so long as you aren't looking to buy too many sets because then you've got down periods in between to save! The issue is that Nintendo recently started having 5+ cookies available at any one time, which drastically reduces the time between sets you'd want and puts more of a squeeze to spend money. It's probably one of the few gripes I've had with the game, given it makes being F2P a real struggle when there's multiple sets you want currently out.

    i've been playing acpc on and off for over 3 years now, and i haven't spent a single cent of real-life money on it (i tend to be very conservative with my leaf ticket spending haha). i totally agree that it's not as pay-to-win as people make it seem, and although it can feel a bit shallow sometimes, i really enjoy it! :D by the way, i noticed that you don't have a ton of bells (no offense!!) so here are some tips for you and anyone in the comments:
    - when a villager asks for fruit, give them a perfect fruit or one of the fruits that doesn't grow in your campsite (grapes, lemons, or lychee) and you'll get a much better reward! the same goes for flowers, some flowers yield higher rewards!
    - speaking of fruits that only grow in certain campsites, NEVER sell your home fruit directly! i always sell them in market box, so that i can make money off it and my friends can too!
    - during gyroidite events, whichever location you leave your character in will have more gyroidites than usual when you log back on. because of this, it's generally not a good idea for the last place you visit to be your own main campsite or cabin, because gyroidites don't spawn there. also, don't forget to check ok motors and the marketplace!
    - connect your my nintendo account to get free in-game stuff, including leaf tickets!
    - play happy homeroom every day! even if you've earned all three medals from a level, playing will still earn you bells! also, some levels will earn you more bells than others, so try to find the best ones!
    - if you have too many crafting materials (there's a cap, i believe it's 999) it's usually better to sell them in market box since they are often in high demand with newer players and you can make more money that way!
    - there's no rush to pay off your loan, especially the last one since there aren't any rewards for it iirc!
    - friend request everyone you see! you can get friend powder and other rewards from helping people, especially during gardening events, and you can get them to help you enter the quarry!
    - be wary when doing blathers's map quest things, since for many the rewards don't warrant the cost of rolls!
    - you can sell the seasonal items you get from completing monthly missions, as well as any leftover gyroidites you might have at the end of an event!
    - if playing starts feeling like a chore, just take a break for a few days (or weeks!) and return when you're ready. it's a game, the whole point is to have fun! if it's causing you more stress than happiness, it's not worth your time.
    this was great video by the way! you deserve more subscribers!

    I wish Nintendo would have just released a 50 €/$ full version of Pocket Camp without any other microtransactions. I would gladly have played that. Instead they made it a game that become very expensive very fast so I stopped playing it after spending too much money on it and receiving very little for that money. Better idea just buy a console version of any Animal Crossing game than play on the phone even though the phone game worked surprisingly well.

    Honestly I might give Pocket Camp another go if you can still get all past event items, even if it’s slow (because I might actually scream if not, I care a lot about decorating and character customization ok?), but rn im still mad at it.
    I’m mad that pocket camp was given more attention from Nintendo than the game fans have been asking for for years, that ACNH couldn’t have AT LEAST gotten ports of the cute asf clothes and furniture, but I don’t think that’s what makes me the angriest anymore. It’s the fact that pocket camp got more personalities, as people are not only complaining about how shallow ACNH’s dialogue is, but how samey it is between villagers. More villager types are extremely overdue, whether it was implemented before or after ACNH updates.
    I’m so jealous if you enjoy this game, and I’ll try it out myself to see if I can enjoy it myself, and have a better opinion of

      The game still gives you the chance to get older event items, but its always more expensive than it would've been to get them initially. Usually, they need a few thousand bells and the somewhat rare re-issue material to craft. What they reissue is cycled pretty predicably for the most part, sweets for valentines, holiday items during that holiday etc etc.

    funny timing on finding this video- i actually recently started playing pocket camp again after a pretty long break. i've been playing on and off since launch and am currently level 169 (nice). i bought the happy helper plan for a few months a while back, but that's all the money i've ever spent on it. i think the f2p leaf ticket income is decent- not incredibly generous, but ok. and i agree that the gameplay loop is nice.
    my least favorite system is the gulliver islands because it has so much waiting and pointless rng. i'm mildly salty that all the new villagers are put behind this system now, it feels like such a downgrade. i also think the amount of leaf ticket purchase only furniture/clothing items is getting a little excessive.
    but! there is so much nice furniture in this game. i love decorating and this game is just such a playground for that when you've amassed as much stuff as i have. AND the campers actually interact with the furniture! it baffles me how in new horizons the villagers just ignore everything you put out when the freaking mobile game managed to put in cute interactions with so much of their furniture

    I've clung to Pocket Camp since release somehow myself. At this point I'd have to argue it's one of if not *the* most successful mobile entries from Nintendo (RIP Miitomo). The only thing that annoys me about it is the garden events; they're so repetitive and grindy five years into the game. That, and the flower crossbreeding is so inconsistent.
    The casual nature of it makes it easy to drop in on on the daily, and if you're patient you can save up leaf tickets pretty easily these days. The only thing I regularly use them for is the gold fishing rod, and the only money I've thrown at them is the camp caretaker bonus =p
    Most of the issues that have come up they've done well in fixing - slow loading on slow connections? Now there's a find the differences game. Out of space and not a moneybags? Universal warehouse access for free.
    I wish we could transfer some of the event items over to New Horizons, though. Gonna carry that particular torch forever 😅

      Happy to hear you enjoyed, and I agree! I think as far as making a mobile Animal Crossing game, the Pocket Camp team knocked it out of the park!

    I played every single AC games since the gamecube, yes even amiibo festival, which I didn't really enjoy. I played PC as a distraction until NH came out, and now I've gone back to PC because I'm utterly bored of NH. I like both for different reasons, but NH felt so limited while PC had much more designs and flavour from day 1. Idk I just ended up enjoying PC more, and it's way nicer to play on my daily commute versus bringing my expensive switch out on the bus/train lol.

      When it comes to gameplay, I think Pocket Camp is much more fulfilling to play in short bursts like on a commute, as that's how it's designed!

    Finally someone is taking about this. I've been playing since the game came out and it's good to see other people care about it

      The main inspiration was because I felt that it wasn't being spoken about too! Glad to hear I was able to fill the void a bit!
