Thank you! As a single mom with no one to turn to for vehicle repairs this video saved me big time!! I was pulled over today for brake light out on my 98 ford explorer. Well, I couldnt change the light because i couldnt get the back open! Thanks to you the light is fixed!!
Awesome! Still helping folks. Took me two packs to get it correct. Drilled out the gray one and added a screw in the end to keep the tabs pushed out. Seems like the best combo. Thank you!
Great video. Thanks. I did use the gray part from the NAPA collection. I enlarged the hole with a 7/32 drill bit and self threaded the part onto the metal threaded rod. Then the male part fit in the hole snug. Worked great! Thanks again.
Thank you so much for showing me this video I save my self a lot of money I wanted to open the trunk to change one of the tail lights. I feel good 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for the video - I too used the grey clip , but had to thread mine for 1/4 - 24 to fit. I was easily able to get it to stay in the hole without the screw in the back and it was in there really good. Great video on accessing and what needed to be done, THANKS DUDE!!!
I just fixed mine using your video. My plastic piece did not break like yours, however it was crushed in at the point were it goes into the hole in the handle. I used a screw with a washer and that same exact phillips extension. I lubed and up and it is working like brand new. Thanks for the video brother! Super legit.
Great video. My little yellow clip was still in tact. It had just opened up and fell out. Your video guided me to putting it back together and I added a screw to mine for a little extra security. Thanks. Good job.
Omg.. Been dealing with my explorer for two years..just found this video..thank you... Ill never buy another one..whoevers bright idea to not have a push button or something..for this door..they suck..
Great video. my 2007 ford explorer xlt rear hatch door wouldn't open. look up videos and found this. nothing was broken but seized up. All I had to do was clean it and re - grease it. Now works like it's new.
Thanks Sam. I fixed my car. This is the perfect video. I just want to add one information. The yellow and white clip in the door lock rod clip kit( video 7:17 )works. When I fixed my car I used gray one like your video. However I failed to drill it. I tried to visit dealer shop for the clip but they didn't have one. After that I just tried the yellow and white one. And it worked. I didn't need to use a screw to fix it. : ) My car is 2003 explorer sports. Just try the yellow and white clip before you use the gray one. If you are lucky it will work. Thank you again Sam.
Thnx for the video. Was able to fix my door. Luckily the piece wasn't broken like yours, it just had worked its way out. Was able to able to complete the job in 15 minutes after watching your video.
Saludos desde México, no hablo ingles pero, Con el solo video, logre reparar la manija, en mi caso no se rompio la pieza solo fue volver a ponerla. Excelente video
Exact same problem. Exact same fix except I couldn't get the stud to stay in the handle hole either oh, and found that I was coming at it from the inside of the handle instead of from the outside with the little stud. Switch it around added the screw good to go! Thx for taking it so far And thoroughly! Made all the difference in my project.
Thanks for the help, just bought a new 00 Explorer and half the doors are broken so youe channel will probably be loads of help within the coming months as I put together my new offroad toy.
Hi the cover in the back that cover the hatch door handle in my 3094 ford explorer what is it called I'm a woman that don't know about vehicles thank you
As Keith Kaylor said - It is important to pop clip in latch first. After that the rod snapped in easily. Nice video - Thanks! Also got clip from Ford at a little less than $5.
Not trying to say this video is wrong or anything, by all means its a great video (because it is well made, very informative and extensive), but I actually fixed this same issue with a 4 zip ties out of a $3 Walmart pack of about 50 or so, in a lil under an hour. Its been around 2 months and the hatch still opens as if it were brand new. The zip ties I used were rated to hold (75 lbs.) so they were perfect for this application. Because of your well made video I was able to see the components that needed to be re attached before I even took my panel off. Thanks for uploading this very thorough video! Much appreciated!
I had to replace that piece every so often (months at the time), best way I found on how to fix it, is using expoxy putty, plastic weld (whatever you want to call it) is a 2 part putty that you mix and hardens like rock. I did mine with it and it has lasted me years.
Thanks for great video... the son of a pal had this idiot part break on his '01 Exploder. So, this kind of fine Ford engineering is exactly why I don't buy Ford, not since 1997. They earned my down thumb for autos. Some people swear by Ford, personally, I swore at Ford.
Thanks for the video. Handle busted while on vacation in Tampa and finally got around to fixing it. The yellow clip on mine was still intact so just had to gain access and clip it back onto rod. Hoping it holds.
Junk works DIY Garage Does the clip take a screw? It already came apart again a day after I fixed it. I'd consider even using RTV or super glue to help hold the clip together.
how do I adjust the latch of a 96 Explorer lift gate? Left side will not latch. Looks like it might have been hit "slightly" left rear...Door ajar light stays on
i'm not positive it might have a bumper that can be adjusted in, your stricker might need to be adjusted or your hinges could be out of whack without seeing it it's hard to tell
Great informative vid but what if your backspace is being used by a 2 15" sub box thats fitted from side to side. And my rear windshield wont open up since i sealed it because of vibrations caused by said sub box stripped the screws. How would i go on to taking of the plastic cover off? Thanks in advance
my back panel won't come all the way off because a piece in the middle is stuck inside the metal latch. how do you get around this because without the panel all the way off. this is pretty impossible to do.
Hello. I know you made this video approximately eight years ago but I was curious if you remember if there was a way to get the rear hatch open so that I could open up the plastic hatch cover? Unfortunately the lock/key mechanism is I believe stuck in the locked position and the latch that you press upwards has little to no tension in it. So basically I have no way of opening up the rear hatch to start investigating what’s going on. Any suggestions? ✌🏽
your door latch or door altogether probably needs adjustment or if your lucky you might have a door switch for the light that can be adjusted out or the switch could be bad as well hope this helps thanks for watching
You wouldn't happen to know how to open the hatch window of a 2003 for explorer XLT? Everything I've read says there a button by the license plate but mine ha no button in or around that area. BTW great video!
they stock those clips at ford. they are about 5 bucks the other thing is its best to pop the clip in first then lock it on the threads also if im not mistaken you should have rotated that clip 180 degrees and put it in from the other side of the pull lever. the wrong angle will cause it to come out again if you didnt have the screw in it. great video tho on the tear down etc
the latch in the rig was broke where it goes in so the clip wouldn't stay in i'm pretty sure the clip goes in the same direction i put it in otherwise the rod would hit other mechanisms its still working good but if i have a problem in the future i will replace the latch and take a closer look thanks for the info
i'm not positive but if they work with the switches on each each door but not the master switch on the drivers door it's probably your switch but if nothing works it could be a fuse but i'm not sure which one .
i have been told this but i actually tried it and it didn't work either. the guy that tried to fix it before me reamed out the hole to much or something it just fell out when i tried it so hopefully most people won't have the problems i had thanks for the info and for watching.
