That guy WAS so pissed. You can TOTALLY see on his face, after her amazing solve, after the judges ruled him too long on the Toss-Up, and after she won that huge round with "you had me at hello". He tried hard to keep a smile on, but it cracked frequently. :-P heehee
There are only two words that match "X'XX", I've and I'll. Since she guessed an L, and there were no L's in the first word, she knows the first word is I've. Now thing about it. In the single space, only "I" or "A" can fit there. "I have blank I.." or "I have blank a.." The second one makes more sense, so obviously she knows it's, "I've blank a". Now, since it's a phrase, and a very common phrase is "I've got a good feeling about this,", and it all matches, she guessed it.
Thanks for posting. I've seen clips of this, but I've always wanted to see this ep in it's entirety. Even though this isn't the full episode, I have been wondering about the rest of the game. Plus this is during the period of time after Charlie O'Donnel's death and before Jim Thornton joined the show, it is rare to hear any guest announcers these days, which in this case is the Jeopardy! announcer Johnny Gilbert. I'll watch now and see what happens.
to Leafsfan - I believe she did know the puzzle before she called the "L". I think she knew it when the puzzle came up, and she also knew that it HAD HAD HAD to begin with either "I'LL" or "I'VE", given that those are the likely possibilities w/ the BLANK-APOSTROPHE-BLANK-BLANK. She called the "L" so she could rule out "I'LL" and then, knowing it was I'VE, she knew the "L" would appear in FEELING. So EITHER way she's safe calling "L". She's a longtime WheelWatcher - and well-rewarded.
@deemo77a No more editing than usual because Johnny Gilbert was actually in the studio announcing on the "Wheel Loves LA" (where this comes from) and the "Wheel Salutes Our Military" week of shows. Those were recorded when Charlie was sick, but aired after his passing. On one show from the latter week, they cut an entire closing segment because "get wells" were expressed for Charlie. However, this "Wheel Loves LA" week will rerun next week with Jim Thornton's voice edited in.
New Baby Buggy You earned a trophy! Description: Solve the puzzle within less than 20% of the letters revealed for contestant and singer Caitlin Burke.
I remember Tutti-Frutti ice cream solved in 1985 or 1986 on the nighttime version from just the T's, and NIck Nolte Starring in Q&A in Summer 1990 on the Goen version after one spin of the wheel(don't remember what letter was picked). Someone solving after just one letter revealed I can't recall off hand. The WOF episode where Mary and Sondra go on WOF had the Prisoner of Zenda solved with just a Z showing.
@KaptKan1 - DUH - I don't think so. Contestants have to pay taxes on the total value of their winnings; so if you win a trip, you have to fork out cash to pay the taxes whereas when you win cash, you can use part of the cash to pay the taxes.
What is so crazy is the guy said album , the judges said he took too long , then when the girl said it she got. I wonder if she was supposed get it in first place and it was a blooper for guy to get it. Something doesn't add up. 😉
If i were Rick, the 2nd contestant, i'd be pretty pissed off at Pat, because he got the Toss-Up puzzle right. It was "Original Cast Album" and he said Original Cast..........Album. May have been late, but he said it. Listen for it at 3:35
She knew the answer, yet chose to solve it that early with only $ 900. Someone needs to explain that the point of the game is to play along and win more prize money to go to Grenada with. Might make for a better vacation ?
@Marksalot420 Agreed, I've gotten a puzzle on the computer game without any letters. Here, I managed to figure out "I've got a" but I couldn't figure out the rest, lol
How did she do that with one letter on the puzzle?!?! That wouldn't be possible for her to do that. I wouldn't do it with one letter on the puzzleboard.
The poor guy next to her is just stunned, thinking "Did she just get that, or is she banging Pat?" Both, now. Anybody else remember when he was the Channel 4 weather guy in LA back in the 70's?
@EstiloLibre247 Apparently she had gone bankrupt the round before, and really wanted this trip. I can't blame here there, I think I'd have solved too if I knew it and could win a trip!
@246trinitrotoluene This kind of remark is probably a close cousin of the reflexive cry of "fake!" seen often at RUclips ... a member of the "cynicism for cynicism's sake" family. Couldn't we just say the girl had a lucky night, and be content with that?
@KaptKan1 The logic of the government is that you are living on their land and your job is on U.S soild. So in theory the government thinks they are enttitled to a percent of income earned on their soil whether it be from luck on a gameshow or your sweat and blood on the job. I agree with you it is not right, but the law and creditors are on their side.
Nah, I've personally witnessed people do what she did. The first puzzle was just dumb luck, I'm still amazed when seeing people do this with hardly any clues. The second puzzle was practically handed to her. The third and fourth puzzle she just got really lucky with all of the letters, leading up to an easy win.
You know it isn't *that* hard. The ' was already visible, so clearly it must be "I've" then you have a lone "a" for sure, if you start racking your brain coming upw ith sentences you might stumble upon "I've got a good feeling about this" eventually. Still impressive, but not totally improbable
Ikr don't forget that humans can't think as critically when they're pressured. I bet my body that you wouldn't have guessed it first try with 1 letter.

That one of the impressed solve I ever seen. Way impressed than the Shaggy & Scobby-Doo puzzle back in Dec 09.

Was Johny Gilbert (The announcer of jeopardy) announced this show?
ElevExplorings by SimasTube19 yes
Nicholas Swann that's rare!
Nicholas Swann Maybe Charlie O'Donnel died? They had to get a new announcer (Jim) in 2011
Charlie O'Donnell passed away several days before this show. Jeopardy announcer Johnny Gilbert announced for this show.
Then for the summer repeats, they brought in the new guy, Jim Thornton.
What on earth did the contestant solve the puzzle with one letter shown?!?! I wouldn't do that for real when one letter on the puzzleboard is shown.
Because it was a prize puzzle
I think, perhaps, Pat Sajak received a "good feeling" from a certain contestant before the show.
I actually got it right too it was a phrase puzzle
I'm still in shock. that was a Quick 20 second round
So did the credits start with the Charlie tribute replacing the banter and then they cut back to the clapping?
lol look at the guy on the lefts reaction
It’s a shame that this kind of overshadowed Charlie’s death. Everyone remembers that contestant/fast solve but not what also happened that night. :(
I'd like to think that if Charlie had seen this,he would have died anyway.
