It's really easy. If your bolts are really rusted make it easy on yourself and shoot the bolts the day before you do it so they can suck up some oil and break free easier.
Enjoyed the video, very good info...I have a '99 S-10 that I'm doing a lot of work on myself, just finished replacing the whole front end, control arms and idle bar. Needing a new windshield too if you know where to find one, then exhaust after that. Love the jacket too! Go Steeler Nation!!
Did you drop it yet? I need new shackles and leaf springs because of rust and long bed 2wd. Since it will be my daily driver I want to avoid using blocks or at least too many inches, and do it right. Any advice?
john woodham I would heat the rubber with a torch and pull the shock off. Then i would use a cutoff wheel or something to cut that sleeve off. Or use a lot of PB or other oil and heat the sleeve fast and pry it off. I had to do it on my old S10.
Good vid man, I have about the same setup as you with the ramps and not too much for tools, wasn't sure it would be enough to do for a first time. Are there always nuts on the top bolts? I saw a few other vids it just looked like he pulled out bolts and I never saw him pissing around with nuts.. I have an 07 z71 colorado..
If you use drop blocks then the dimensions of the suspension would stay the same and only the axle is moved so you should have gotten standard size shocks. What I would do is (because you already have short shocks and it cost no dollars) heat the leaf spring two inches in front of the rear shackle glowing cherry red hot and get some fat chicks to jump on your bumper.
Does anyone know the part number of the rear lower shock stud? I had to sawsall mine off and I'm finding it difficult to order new ones. Truck: 1997 S10 Base
Pretty standard sizes... www.speedwaymotors.com/Shock-Mount-Studs,5485.html?sku=91036096&CSEGoogle&CSE&CSEGOOGLE&gclid=Cj0KEQjwoau9BRDMvsnv5MCh24UBEiQAKOqcfcR7u6jscY-bNIb17e_ZKM02L8TPfE43xfHdWUrNeVEaAiR-8P8HAQ
Darryl Mason. I had this problem on mine. a 91 base. both sides broke off while removing old shocks. I cut them off flush, and tapped new holes on the bracket just ahead of the old studs. bought a shock stud kit in the help sextion at advanced. made by dorman.
You have to do a video of the front Springs the only way to do them on a 2001 just to put spacers in between the not where you crank and the sliding hooks or it's too long to get in there and collapse the springs you don't know that you ain't getting it done
This is my favorite car repair video ever. Thank you
Thank you. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for posting this man. I'm getting ready to do the shocks on my blazer. Plus I have a ground problem that you might of helped me with!

Language aside, a pretty good how-to video. I feel like I could attempt this for myself after watching. :)

Thanks for the video. Do you need a wheel alignment if you replace just your rear shocks?
Nope. The only time you will need that is if you replace parts the have to do with steering.

My old shock seized to the stud on the leaf spring bracket. What do u recommend?

It's called PB Blaster. I always used WD-40 till I finally gave in and tried this, now it's all I use unless water is involved
what kinda liquid is that for the rusty bolts?
He had something for us
