The room mic is great for figuring out this will sound in a small pub with a crappy PA. It's easy to make any drum sound good with a full complement of mics and a powerful PA, but filling a room acoustically is where the real challenge is.

@csrgatorfan Good morning. I love big drums, and big sounding drums!! At the moment I have a bebop set. Yamaha stage custom birch in natural finish high gloss. 10, 12 toms and a 14 floor tom. 20" kick drum. I bought them brand new and put remo coated ambassador on the tom tops, and stock heads on bottom. They resonate beautifully. I do want another set with bigger sizes some day. For now my Yamaha's get the job done.

The “original” “big” would be 60 years earlier than Bonzo’s 26” bass drum
Gene Krupa was one of many drummers using 26” bass drums in the late thirties some opting for 28”
He also famously used his giant 20x20 “jungle” tom next to his standard 16x16 floor tom

I dont have a certain brand or make in mind because I'm indecisive but I'd love to have a kit with 24 bass either 13 16 18 or 14 16 18 toms and a 10 or 12 tama metalworks snare. Big loud but controlled drums with a high poppy snare.

Greetings all from The Great Southern Land of Australia. This is by far the best big drum comparison video I've ever seen. I've watched this video many times and each kit is in the zone but for my ears, the PDP wins it hands down considering it's a fraction of the price of the others. I've owned and played well over 30 kits and consider myself a drum snob but this PDP has really changed my perception of what affordable drums can do and I'm now looking at buying one. It didn’t break the bank and looked great. First night I played out with it, I actually had people from the audience come up and ask me about it and tell it was the “most beautiful drum set they had ever seen”. I was shocked at the reaction! All the years I’m playing my 72’ Ludwig’s in silver sparkle and 68’s in WMP, nobody had ever mentioned them. Do the pdp’s sound as good as my Ludwig’s? Not really, do they sound good? Yes, different but very good and they’re just a fun set to play. I’ve since added the 26” bass drum and a 14” floor Tom as well. At such a great price point it’s very affordable to add the extras. I love big drums! Great video guys, keep up the good work.

Awesome video. I learned on an old school Ludwig kit. Love my 1976 Tama Superstar kit. Big open sounds is where it’s at.

I also used Remo Coated Ambassador heads on the top and bottom on every drum , " ALWAYS " I don't care if they say Bonham used Coated Emperors on the top
and clear ambassadors on the bottom. I use the same skins on every drum for the last 50 years.. I can tell, that Remo has done something to cheapen their skin production because I just rebuilt a 1972 Slingerland 3-ply Maple/Poplar/Maple drum set with all new hardware and new 1.6mm rims from the 50', 60', and 70's
and I'm using a 1976 Buddy Rich 6 ply Slingerland 5 1/2x 14 TDR snare and the set sounds fantastic, but I bought all new Remo Coated ambassador heads and I tuned them the same way and can tell there is a difference since my last set of new skins on my 1972 Buddy Rich Rogers kit.

They all sounded really great, and I play big drums.. The PDP was very impressive. I too am thinking of buying one.. Have you heard or played the 26? Cool video as always.

I have a 1995 Japanese Tama Rockstar and I only have 2 small squares of foam in my bass drum that absorb some of the ring but they are pretty much wide open, I like the raw open punch sound. I also only play unmic'd in my garage so I need as much volume as possible to compete with my Marshall half stacks and full bass stack.

my dream kit would be a Ludwig Classic Maple in either Green Sparkle, or Burgundy WIne, with custom large configuration: 26x16 Kick, 15x12 Rack, 16x16 and 16x18 Floors, with a switched out choice of Ludwig Black Beauty, or Ludwig Maple Coliseum Snares both in 14x8

My favorite kit of all time was made for Carmine Appice It included a 15x26 bass drum a 13 and 16. They were made by ddrum in the classic style like the vintage Ludwig or Slingerland with the renforcement hoops. All I can say is playing that bass drum was a religous experience with a bibical sound!

I just picked up a Sakae Trilogy 10, 13, 18, 24 in sky blue pearl. Probably was sold by DCH originally! Going to be setting it up for the first time tonight. Would LOVE to find a matching 16" FT some day.

The timestamps for every kit are mislabeled, just to let you guys know. Ludwig kit labelled as Gretsch, Gretsch labelled as George Way etc.

My main kit is a Pearl EXR series custom component kit I ordered (from another company/shop) in 2006...It Has 11 x 13,14 x 15 rack toms offset mounted on dbl tom stand,16 x 16 & 16 x 18 floor toms w/legs, and an 18 x 22 kick...The unique size configuration is awesome with BIG DEEP diameter toms & kick that I LOVE...And you NEVER see that configuration ANYWHERE.....It is in a Strata(oyster) black finish.....It looks & sounds 3x the price...Too bad Pearl discontinued the EXR series not long after I got them....GREAT drums

I was really keen to hear how the gretsch Brooklyn sounded but was a bit disappointed as the snare drum and cymbals seemed to be the focus not the toms 🤷‍♂️

I was digging all of them but I'd have to go with the Ludwig. That color was amazing as well. What I would have liked to have seen/ heard would have been the Sonor SQ1 in 24, 13, 16, 18 and maybe a Pro-Lite in that same configuration.
