    Nice demo, good idea to demonstrate radio handling for a beginner like me. Thanks for that.

    I really like the simplicity of the OS this TX uses vs OpenTX. I've read where the horus FrOS is easier than the standard OpenTX OS, not sure how true it is as I don't have a horus but I wished Jumper T16 would be just as easy to setup as the Paladin. Great flight, I'm looking forward to setting up my smaller glider with all the bells and whistles like this.

    A clear and concise review. Convinced me to order one and sell the almost (to me) indecipherable QX7. Placed an order with HK last night and looking forward to using with Pulsar 3.6.

      Yes, very steep learning curve for OpenTX.

    Thanks for showing this beautiful radio! Indeed it’s a very nice transmitter to program your models in.
    The whole feel of it, the gimbals and switches is better than the price suggests. As an extra bonus I see the wireless charging, no hassle with loose batteries or connectors in the future.
    Display I find hard to read in sunlight conditions tho.

    Great review and demonstration on Paladin this is the format I wish all Transmitters would have . I use every function you have shown and your full span Aileron mix also Take Care

    Thanks Andrew, your video has convinced me to give one of these a go! I’ve got a 3.2m glider waiting for a receiver, so thought I might as well get myself a new radio alongside it. Bit nervous about moving away from Spektrum, it’s all I know really, but this looks easy to setup and will work with my old brain hopefully.

    As always your videos enable me to make informed decisions, I bought a Taranis to be my future rc platform, but it is just not an intuitive radio to dial in settings and mixes it’s a real labour and tbh I didn’t get on with it, I started with a fly sky FSi6 like yourself and that radio is very easy to dial in, it makes the hobby more enjoyable, you have just influenced my next radio, the paladin looks great, just wish it could have vario with the beepy beeps as you call it 👍 thanks Andrew, this virus is crap but it’s good to see your setting the example and wearing a mask out and about, stay safe, Jim

    Great setup tutorial Andrew! I've never seen Crow Braking before. That looked very effective in slowing the glider down for landing. Hummm...I may have to try that in the future. I wonder if that would work on a Bush Plane with Flaps? See you in the Air!

    • @AndrewNewton
      @AndrewNewton  4 года назад +2

      More useful for gliders than a Bush Plane I think but give it a try

    • @planeimages1
      @planeimages1 3 года назад

      One of the additional advantages of crow braking is that it raises the ailerons which, effectively, increases wash out on the wing (in company with lowered flap, too). By doing this the tendency to "tip stall" at low speeds is reduced. I am working on this concept with an Apache bush-style high wing which uses the Clark Y section, renowned as a "floater". It was a bitch to slow down on approach without flaps. I converted the full-span ailerons to flaps and ailerons buy simply cutting them to form separate surfaces. I added a pair of servos to allow independent ailerons and set up the former single servo to operate the flaps from one side of the servo wheel. I connected the flap levers via a three point grub screw bar and a single rod to the servo. This allows precise mechanical adjustment of flap position.

    Looking at this and the ease of programming I do wish OpenTX had an assistant mode or something, like this. With the new radios with large touch screens it would be a good project for someone to code up.

    • @AndrewNewton

      I'd like a global model setup with screens for the color version too.

    Pity they did not include a flapperon setting on the menu for my multiplex solius. The supplied voice output has a strong Chinese accent but will hopefully be able to be changed at a later software upgrade.

    Enjoyed the ride Andrew .. I just ordered one . It seems to be a well thought out radio . Missing a few important features that most have come to expect from open-tx . I don’t understand why they wouldn’t include a sd-card to a nice radio like this . Very confusing how some aspects of the radio are very well thought out . While others ( mainly firmware / software related ) were completely missed . I still ordered one though . As Some have said . Time to move away from Frsky . I’m hoping a 4 in 1 Jr. module either works or will soon . Nice to know that the other JR. Modules are supported , including Crossfire . Minus telemetry though , which needs to be corrected . I’m still considering adding a Radiomaster and or Crossfire’s new radio ( when available ) . To my ever growing mix . Hopefully with your reviews & suggestions ( along with other reviewers ) . Flysky will continue to improve their products . Thanks Again

      Maybe a bit out of step with current developments, but still a superior radio. Would be a killer with OTX and SD card

    Just had a confirmation of a possible Firmware update bug in case anyone has similar struggles - I had this issue the first time I did a firmware update - from supplied 1.29 or 1.30 to 1.40. I just went from 1.40 to 1.49 (released 29th July) - Sticks fail to operate. Tried re-flashing, no good. Reverting to 1.40 - which didn't work when I tried going from 1.40 down to supplied version a couple of weeks ago.
    So I did what I did last time - I opened the back, previously when I did that I disconnected and reconnected the Stick PCB's and it worked. This time I did not touch the stick PCBs because it occured to me that removing the Back dis-engages the Battery. I think the units have a bit of an issue with the Unit not fully erasing the Flash without a full Power disconnect.
    Upon powering on again - Sticks functional.
    I did struggle to import the Models back in too - but after a little RTFM - i.e. I watched the video they linked on the Update page - I realised you have to Select Not only the File you want to import, but the Model in the "Model List" actually on the controller - which is then overwritten by the import.

      mine stopped working but all I did was a factory reset and everything worked.

    • @lklmmedia4715
      @lklmmedia4715 4 года назад

      @@short5stick I've done a video showing the issue and fix on a New channel I am working on - but prefer not to hijack Andrew's thread (albeit my previous post was a bit that way...) :)
      Interestingly - for all I know it could well be a Factory reset does the trick too - fairly sure I tried that...maybe it didn't do it. When you say yours Stopped - was it ALL functions? or just the gimbals? What FW version?

    Hi Andrew,
    Is it possible to switch models with the Paladin?
    For example - a dump truck drives to the excavator and parks with the brakes on and the flashing light on - then I switch to the excavator to load the dumper - then I continue with the dumper....
    This is the requirement for functional models and I am searching for a radio which can solve this. THX

      Is it possible to bind 2 receivers at the same time with the PL18 and then switch over?

    Customizable voice alrets and being able to import my own pictures... hard to go away from. When I flick a switch I want voice confirmation that what I just flicked is what I wanted because my dumb ass has been known to fat finger... If this thing gets a version 2.0 with a SD card slot or internal memory that you can load custom stuff onto...

    Your video has really helped me after I purchased the paladin. I've even managed to get the butterfly set up, but now have a peculiar problem with the port aileron. When I use the slider to get butterfly, the port servo goes down with the flaps by 10mm before going back up to match the starboard aileron. Any ideas Andrew.

    Sorry to trouble you but I am wondering if it has speech prompts for the different switch’s etc on the transmitter

    • @AndrewNewton

      No. only alerts and they are not configurable

    • @lklmmedia4715
      @lklmmedia4715 4 года назад +1

      @@AndrewNewton and the alerts are quite...Robotic...and fairly strong accent. I definitely see it becoming more popular over time, so hopefully before long if FlySky will open it up a little to being able to include Language packs recorded by voice artists where it is their 1st language. in next Firmware I would like to see indivdual Volume adjustment for Alarms, On/off and general sound.
      Per Michael's question - would definitely be a good option to be able to add Voice prompts per switch, even more so if Self programable, so you could record "Cro Brake" and assign to a switch, or a bit of Jean Luc Picard "Engage!" for enabling Throttle!
