    Great, Luke!!! Thanks for putting this out. I’m going to use both features (planetary live stacking and plate solving) for two things: outreach, of course, and spectroscopy. Take care now. Clear skies!

    planetary live stacking would be amazing! i don’t shoot with a laptop as part of the system but this would be so cool to do. I recently tried jupiter with my DSLR, 400mm f/2.8, and a teleconverter and it turned out surprisingly good! not good like from a proper scope but quite good for a lens and a dslr! i’m starting to understand the planetary focused photographers a bit more now :) and you’re totally right lol the live stacking is leagues better for outreach and showing people the sky in real time

      Give it a go if you can hook up your laptop for a session mate yeah!! I tried Jupiter with my old DSLR lens a while back and honestly had a ton of fun :-)

    None of my scopes are really suitable for planetary imaging though I have managed a few of Jupiter with an old 150P. I love the new version of Sharp Cap for deep sky imaging, the addition of the easy to use sequencer has made all the difference. I know most people go for NINA and I do have it installed on my laptop but I just find the new version of Sharp Cap easier to use. Thanks for the video update Luke.

    Hi Luke , great feature , I gave it a go , worked at first but now sharpcap just keeps running out of memory and closing , whatever I'm doing and however I set the settings. Got 16mb. Gonna roll back to the older version . I actually use 3.1 for planetary as I found the newer versions won't hold frame rate on my 174 for solar, might be an Altair camera incompatibility issue .

    Ok, so really dumb question. How do you know when the image is finished? I didn't see you hit "Start Capture." And how much does SharpCap Pro cost?

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hey mate! Sharpcap pro is about £15 I think, - regarding the capture, I believe it's a rolling stack of the best within your set parameters 👍 quite a neat tool!!

  • @FsimulatorX
    @FsimulatorX 6 месяцев назад +1

    Hey Luke, I noticed your exposure was set to 8.33ms ~ 100fps but the frame stack rate on the bottom is way lower. Do you know why that could be? Thanks!

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hey mate! It could be frames being rejected or my mini pc not having enough processing power to stack at such a frame rate 👍

  • @petesastrophotography

    Awesome stuff, and perfectly timed. I have been thinking about getting back into planetary/lunar/iss imaging again. I gave up on it years ago as the seeing up in this part of the world was rarely good enough. I have a Celestron CPC1100 that has been gathering dust so time to start using it again. Do you know if SharpCap is stacking based on tracking the whole planetary disc, or individual features on the disc? The reason I ask is that it would be good if it could live stack lunar images as well. I have a lunar target planned to test the resolving power of my RC when it arrives that will need stacking to have any chance of showing it (and no, it isn't the lunar lander/rover!🤣). As you say, the RC isn't the best tool for the job but I'm up for a challenge.

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  9 месяцев назад +1

      Hey Pete! - I think you'll have a ton of fun testing this out on your scopes!! On a better night the RC would be really good I'll bet, the night I was recording this was abysmal haha 😅
      Re: the tracking method, I believe it only works on planetary and not lunar features thus far, but it's pretty much brand-new and still in beta, so no doubt improving still 👍 I'd love to see lunar being added too, good shout!
      Can't wait to hear how you get on with it mate 👍

    One question. How do you stop the live stacking once you are satisfied? Thank you

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  12 дней назад

      It should maintain a rolling average of frames with your given parameters, you can hit save at any point and it will save whatever is on the screen :-)

      @@lukomatico Thank you. My biggest problem has been using a 2x barlow lense. I think the next time I use it, I will use the 2x barlow with the eyepiece. Then, remove the eyepiece and insert the QHYIII 462 camera into the the barlow. It might make it easier to find on my computer. Thank you
