I recently picked up a g35 RevUp without knowing anything about the VQ series. I started hearing a lot about oil consumption on these engines, but I noticed that despite putting 1600-2000 miles a month, I wasn't getting hardly any oil consumption. Maybe I'm lucky, idk, but I'm not complaining.
Same here bro
Check it in the morning when it’s cold
@stephenprieto2950 later on, I found that the issues online were caused by people revving the sh*t out of it when they first bought it, when that car requires a long break-in period. I was lucky; the previous owner knew this and slowly broke it in correctly when they originally bought it. I ended up selling the car over a year ago, just because of the lack of fuel economy, but otherwise, I loved it.
I have a 2005 Nissan 350z convertible and I now have 150,000 miles on it. I’ve never noticed any oil consumption more than any other car I’ve owned. I always put full synthetic oil in and I change it before recommended. Don’t know if that makes any difference but I also don’t regularly beat on it. It’s my everyday driver and I love it.
Very informative. Recently got me an 06 z and looking forward to learning and having fun with it. I also drive an 05 silverado so checking the oil is a pretty normal thing for me so no big deal. Thanks for the info you got my sub and I'll be watching.
Great vid, loving your content! I hear that the cats are so good you sometimes don't see black smoke even if there is an issue.
I have a red 2006 350z track edition. It currently sits at 100k miles. It’s full bolt on and luckily I don’t experience much oil consumption. Either way I love this car and will own it forever 😊
Hey if you don’t mind me asking, since you’ve got fob have you gotten a tune and what are ur numbers? Only asking cause I’m planning this route
@@civilizedanarchy9597 I think I was pushing about 330-340 whp with Osiris tune. You’ll be running pretty lean with bolt ons so the tune will help balance it out. Another channel to follow is anthonyj350. He did similar route and probably will explain it better then I can. Hope that helps and good luck!
@@alvinnguyen2643 those are some nice numbers. I’ll have to check this guy out. thanks for pointing me in the right direction bro, good luck with ur z as well.
Dude, I just got my hands in an 07” HR last week. Love seeing your 350z content! 😊
how much did you spend on it if you don’t mind me asking?
Hey, that's awesome! Congrats! Enjoy her!! Thanks so much for tuning in!
@@addisontrue8769 got mine for 7200
Thanks for the video..great info. I'm currently looking at a 2006 Nissan 350Z Touring manual transmission. :)
Good topic Johnny, had a DE new in 03, didn’t seem to use oil, now I have a mint condition low km 35th anniversary as a weekend toy and it uses a bit , but nothing tragic. In my DE I seemed to hit the rev limit cut out every time I took it out, in Rev-up I think I’ve hit it twice in 3 years - perhaps I am just getting old :) and not driving as hard. Any 350z is a treat.
Hey man. Love your videos. I’m about to pick up a 2006 in a few days. How do you know how much to put to top off because isn’t it bad to over fill?
Great video, the VQ engines were entirely developed by Nissan and Renault have used it in a few of their cars. Got a 2007 UK HR GT spec and love it.
Great video, thanks for the tips! Just FYI, Renault ("ren-OH") is actually a French company. Keep up the great videos, looking forward to picking up the perfect '06 LeMans Sunset Metallic Coupe soon!
😯😯 that makes a tons more sense! Thank you so much for the clarification🙏🏼 also, the sunset metallic is a beautiful color! Was my first choice, just couldn’t find any around me!🔥 keep me posted on the pickup!🙌
I bought a new 2006 redline manual in 2006. I kept t for 3.5 years and sold it. Part of the reason I sold it was because I was afraid it would never pass smog because all that oil had to be going out the exhaust. Shitty parking brake and clutch that sticks to the floor with aggressive driving, I had enough of the car.
I first owned a DE 2004. Now a 2005 GT4 Revup. I daily the revup and put half a little cup of oil every 2 weeks. Hardly any extra cost but i defo notice the extra Bhp, Torque and best of all way it revs higher. Win Win id never go back. A simple tune, induction and full exhaust system and it really opens up whats already great.
I agree, the oil really isn't bad at all! I've never had the pleasure to drive an 03/04 DE, hopefully someday! Would love to feel the power difference between the two. Thanks for tuning in!🙏
Thanks bro.
Sure thing! Glad I could help🙌
I love my revup , no complaints just need to do the valve covers this weekend then back to suspension mods.
i just bought a 2005 35th Anniversary that I am getting imported from Japan with about 90,000 miles/144,000 kms on it so I hope I don't have to constantly baby this thing but I will not use this car as a daily and it will be sort of a toy :) the 350z looks great in most colors but yellow/red look the best! great video and thanks for sharing
Interesting change of render settings :o
Premiere acts so weird sometimes😩 I was going to re-export but had to run out the door haha thanks for tuning in🙏🏼
My first mod is gonna be jwt clutch with flywheel and torque solutions short shifter before ill go full bolton
I just bought an 04 350z 2 days ago as my first car.
Congrats man, that’s awesome! Welcome to the club🙏🏼
Yo thats crazy im going to pick one up tomorrow Congrats dude!
How much I'm thinking of one nearby but winter is close
I have a 35th Anniversary with the Rev-up engine however I've never had an oil consumption issue
I have a 06 z touring and I love it got it when it has 42k now sits on 97k about to full bolton and tune can't wait to unleash the beast 😀
Nice!! 06 gang🙌 full bolt ons and e85, these things don’t mess around!!
Hey I plan on getting an 06 enthusiast at 44k, is there anything I should expect at such a low mileage? How has your Revup held up over time, thanks.
Picked up an 06 350Z and it has the following: Stillen pipes, nismo catback, high flow test pipes. Fujita intake, big throttle body. Stainless steel clutch line. Carbon fiber oem wing and it is eating up the oil pretty quickly (which i'm cool with) but anything else I should know about??
I’ve had my 06 rev up since 2018? Or so. It had 96k when I bought it, and has 123k now, and have burnt about a quart over 5000 miles between changes. It’s not bad at all, and the car is a lot of fun. Don’t let the negative comments dissuade you, and if you find one for the right deal, get it!
Hey I’m looking to go buy a 2006 base coupe manual transmission with a blown motor do you think I could put a 03-04 motor to replace it without any issues or???
I had a 2006 Nissan 350z and she never gave me any issues. She was quit reliable
Same here!! There is too much mis-information online... Appreciate you tuning in Manny!
I just bought a 2006 350z Grand Touring Roadster with 70k miles on it, August 24, 2023 and I love it so much. I haven't put a lot of miles on it since buying it because it's a weekend car. So far no issues.
“Changing intake timing changes some pressures or something” sure thing, bro, that’s how it works 😂
I have an 05 but how do you tell a rev up engine from a regular one? I just bought it this weekend and no little to nothing about them.
Revup is sick at high rpm it burns oil but thats an issue for smooth brains.
The thing is that VQ35DE Revup burns oil cause spark plugs O ring gaskets fail and lets oil to spark plugs tube where it goes to combustion chamber where it mixes with gasoline and decreases performance and causes engine knocking, detonation that is harmful for engine. The valve covers should be replaced by 100k Mileage.
I've had my 2005 g35 sedan 6mt rev up for 5 years now I've put almost 160k hard and I mean hard miles on it. I've used rotella t6 15w40 for most of its life and now at 210k miles it stills runs flawless. I put a quart every week due to my valve cover Leak lol. Stillen intake, stillen true dual catback, gutted cats, muffler delete. Such an awesome car I've surprised so many cars with my kids in the back lmfao
6-speed G35 sedan is like my 4-door dream car right now haha they're pretty rare actually! They don't mess around either!💪
@@JohnnyB. Just bought mine 2 weeks ago! I love her. What a dope-ass daily.
I'm the second owner the lady was a realstate work still have the original brochure cost her 33 thousand i got it for half and almost new
I just bought an 06 beater for cheap cheap and I don't notice any smoke out the exhaust and oil pressure is right where it should be. The car has been beat on too, it has welded diff, passenger corner has a small amount of damage and has a bad axle so I know they can take the abuse. It's just common maintenance plus maybe the bad build quality you talk about that kills these engines. I'm happy with my purchase and she makes great power! I also know these engines don't like anything past 400 up in general so I'm going to do all motor mods for power adders. Cams and free flowing exhaust and intake system seem like a solid combo. Or nothing cuz 300 hp is pretty stout for these little cars!
Honestly i like my 06 g sedan 6spd rev up more than my 04 nonrevup sedan 6spd the revup is a whole different feeling!!!
I’ve never driven a non-revup so I’m quite interested in what you mean. Hopefully I can get my hands on one soon for a head to head review!🙌 appreciate you tuning in!!🙏🏼
Hmmmm… I have contemplated going with an SC on my RevUp.
why's it only affect the manual trans tho?
Hello Johnny, hope you are doing well ;-)
Tell me please, are you suggesting to buy a 350Z 2007 in 2023? It has rev up engine and 130K kilometres! It's GCC Gulf Cooperation Council UAE Dubai! Looks like it's still in a good condition, but, have no experience with this car at all, I do drive Infiniti FX50S V8 for a years and looking something for my first project car!
Hey have a question looking to buy my first 2005 350z DE motor is a base 350z with 12,000 miles car has one owner and older man car looks immaculate in and out you could eat off the engine is $19,000 a good price for this car. Get back to me when you can tha la brother.
I bought a 04 350z with 160k miles and I like it so far and am definitely more happy about my de after watching this. I for sure wanna add supercharger so I'm glad I have a de now I don't feel so bad
That’s awesome🙏🏼 supercharged 350zs are underrated! I see so many people throw turbos on, but that supercharger whine thoughh🔥 The DE is a great motor! Thanks for tuning in brotha!
How much was it
@@jesusspartan8951 I paid 4k
Is the car still alive?
What oil do you use? Got mine 2006 350z and want to put good stuff into it.
What’s up!! I totally understand🙏🏼 I top once per week with mobile 1 5w-30 full synthetic and it seems to do the trick! Oil changes every 3-5k and you’ll be good🙏🏼 oil brand doesn’t necessarily matter🤙
I have a 05 touring and oil for me is about a quart every 1k miles more oil if I'm hitting it hard.
I'd say I'm right about the same as you Tony! 1q/1,000 miles is about what I burn too!
Try a PVC delete and catch can.
Are all 2006 350z cars Rev up? I own a 2006 350z roadster. 300 hrp. I don't know much about cars.
Buying an 06 track edition bone stock. 19-18 rays and brembos. Leaks some oil but. Is so hard to find a stock Z and expensive. Only paying $6600 171k miles obviously 6 speed.
Prices have been everywhere lately... I've been seeing 200k+ miles going for around 7k all day, so I'd say the one you found is pretty good. Let me know how it goes!
hey I have a question, I have a 2006 Nissan 350z with a blown engine. my parents are telling me to get a new car but I love my Z, I really need to get a new engine but I am not sure which is best? I do want to fix it up. I'm not to familiar with which engine is better, can you please help 🥲
thank you
Throw in a hr
Aren’t there any solutions for oil burning problem ? Like intercooler or something ?
Hey! As far as I know, there isn’t any 100% fixes. I’ve heard an oil catch can helps, but I don’t have one installed yet so I can’t vouch for it lol will be installing one soon to test🤙
@@JohnnyB. thanks a lot. I’ll be for sure waiting to see your video about it.
The rev up DE started in the 2003 track edition 350Z.
this just isn’t true
Well, tell me what engine came in the 2003 and up track edition cars. I’ll wait.
the 2003 and 2004 track edition cars got the identical vq35de engine. the revup engine was introduced in 2005 because of 35th anniversary. I have an 05 g35 with the revup engine
i plan on getting a Z as my first car but i can’t decide if i want to spend 10k on a HR and 6k on a DE :(
I'm in the same situation (not as a first car though). The HR is a completely superior engine and (not sure if entirely true) essentially 80% of it is a rebuild compared with the DE. The way to justify it, I guess, is that the 350 is among the last of the realistically affordable Japanese sportscars for most people and either way they're going to be an appreciating investment. If you Google for the price trends in recent years they've been shooting up and I can see the HR continuing the trend for a little longer being the more desirable option.
@Addison True Balisong If you spend 10k on a HR, make sure the owner at least took care on the vehicle. You do not want to be spending extra on parts the owner supposedly said where fine already. As for a DE, if you can get a deal under 6k, you will have extra cash for carbon fiber accessories/ repair parts/re-paint of your choice.
At the end of the day, you have to make sure to ask a lot of questions, hopefully the owner will let you know what parts are wrong(most do not).
@@averagelifez8050 thank you for this!
Hey, what rims are those?
Hey! These rims are Rennen CRL-70! Thanks for tuning in!🙏
should i be worried if mine doesnt burn oil? I mean nothing
Hummmmm the problem of this motor is the termotate must change it so the motor work great
Try it
I actually DID have to replace my thermostat lol. Wasn’t too bad, and I guess it’s pretty common on all 350zs!
I hav a 05 350z base model but its not a revup im confused
Hey! Is it auto? In 2005, they put the Rev Up in the manuals and 35th anniversary cars. All autos got the DE non revup🤙
I’m thinking of buying an automatic 2005 with 130k miles. Is this a bad decision.
?
Dude, commend the effort for trying to address this topic for an audience but I'm only 1:30 in and this is factually incorrect. For starters variable timing was added to exhaust (not intake) for the Rev Up. DE already had intake VTC.
Secondly, the VTC has nothing to do with burning oil. It's understood to be a manufacturing issue related to the piston rings.
Renault (pronounced ren-oh), is a French company. They are not based in London.
Thinks he matters
So all 2006 350z were de revup? I have a 350z roadster Automatic (I know lol)
Autos don’t, stinks mate
how many miles does your z have?
81,682!🙏🏼
I have 70k on my revup and it is burning almost nothing?
Do all 2005 350z have rev up?
He says in another video that the 05 didn't get rev up until the 35th anniversary version which is when they introduced the manual version
1000 miles a month, bro those are rookie numbers, In my 06 Z I do 550 miles a week , the funny part is that my 2016 silverado eats way more oil then my Z does , my car is at 150k
Those are rookies number i do 1340 miles a week 😂
Your tuner finna blow your shit up 😅
What the heck is ninja doing on here talking about cars
I thought they were made in Japan
safety and terrorism 😭😂
No, very good engine
A very good engine, indeed. Love this thing!!
A engine the burn oil is not a good engine every week i staybway
I understand what you mean, the car burns just a little bit of oil every week or so, but I think it’s still one of the best platforms for the price!🙌😊 haven’t had any issues in almost three years!
Renault from London!??? Man some of you Americans have no clue about the rest of the world. 🤦♂️
😂 it seems I’ve made a mistake. My apologies, I was compiling a lot of this information from online as I’ve never actually been to Europe, but it’s a dream of mine to go someday! Appreciate the comment my friend🙏🏼
HR or VHR unless u going to build it stay away😂
Regular de is better than rev up imo
First?
