Yes. Shovel and dig and fill the first hole that you filled made then look on you tube for a proper French drain. It’s easy. Dig a trench far enough from your house and dig a trench and then put like a geofabric on the bottom of the trench. And make sure the geo fabric is down there (walk on it) Put the hose with hose inside the trench then stones on top of the pipe. Then take the geo fabric over the stones the put sod back. That the cheap way for a French drain. Do your research on this. If you want an eco friendly use different products

You are just used to living in warm weather. I live in Canada where cold weather rules here. For your gray water look up a french drain. That works in here. That is way toooo close to the house. Insulation insulation insulation. Use pipe insulation or fibreglass (use gloves )

This makes .e want to get down on my knees and give thanks for where I am. My host is a retired park ranger and he lives for challenging projects. He would collaborate on a solution and do most of the heavy lifting. I hope your situation resolves and stays resolved.

Thank you so much for the brilliant tip on coping with any project which feels overwhelming. A set number of hours and you will be in a better position, even if only to have more information on which to base your next decision. So very useful, best tip I've heard for years, almost a serenity prayer! Well done.

For the pipe Use either fiberglass, pipe insulation or reflextix or even pipe heat cable. Sometimes all 3 depends on how cold it gets. If it gets to -30 Celsius. Use all 3 of them. Can never have too much insulation on anything.

You don’t have to cut the pipe. Just use insulation

Ok 1st never cut pipe at a joint back off a couple inches so you can put a coupler (something to join the pipes back). You can look up check valve pumping. You need to be at least 15 feet away from your structure my Dad would say evaluate what you have then figure out what you need to get where your going. But STOP running the gray water that close now, if nothing more go get more pipe to lengthen it asap.
I see there are a couple comments below mine addressing your running water issues. I'd go with what they are telling you insulation. Now depending on where you are in Colorado you need to ask this " how deep is the freeze line here" in NM it's 2 feet so dig down 2 1/2 feet. That's how deep you need to berry your water and gray water lines so they won't freeze.
When digging your gray water "holding" tank think about your daily water usage. That "tank" needs to hold enough water for a week. Have a party get friends who are willing to help you. A mini excavator would be helpful if you can rent it and have it delivered. They are not hard to operate and the delivery guy generally will give you a quick crash course if you ask. 1 day rental is 8 hours keep that in mind when setting up delivery. You should post issues like this before doing anything show what's going on lots of people are willing to help guide you.
