I strongly disagree! Aside from its legendary durability and the fact that there are 30 40 and 50 year old KitchenAid mixers still being passed down I think it falls into the category that you get what you pay for. I wouldn't classify this as being the Rolls-Royce of stand mixers more like the Toyota Camry of stand mixers. Sure it initially cost more than a Hyundai Sonata or Kia whatever but in the long run it will hold up a lot longer and just like a used Camry it has such a deserved reputation that it still holds value if you decide to sell it. If you ever look in consumer reports or any of the unbiased kitchen gadget review channels like America's Test Kitchen you'll see there is also a definite difference in performance. Somebody who only makes chocolate chip cookies once a month may not see the benefit of having a high performer and BTW you can make chocolate chip cookies with just a spoon and a bowl so... that being said I own several Kenmore Elite stand mixers which are all made KitchenAid's parent company whirlpool. Both have similar heavy metal construction and basically the same Motors. These stand mixers also become far more versatile if you are someone like me and loves to use the Hub attachments that fit both the KitchenAid and Kenmore front attachment hub. I have tested and reviewed stand mixers from quite a few different companies both higher-end like from Cuisinart and Breville as well as much cheaper plastic Chinese ones from Amazon. Holyshit is there a difference! The cheaper ones tend to be noisier and operate much more crudely and just like with the Cuisinart and Breville they don't mix all that well. There is a difference in design aside from just the build quality. So if anyone were to ask me if buying a KitchenAid stand mixer was a good idea I would say that hell yeah it is unless all you do is make chocolate chip cookies then you should save your money and buy a spoon

Sure those cheap ones could whip cream the same, but none would be able to kneed bread dough for 10 minutes at a time, and if even if they could, the motor would probably burn up... That's what I use mine for. There is no substitute.

My mother changed 2 of no-name mixer and will probably change 2 more, total investment 1.5x as much of Kitchen aid and she complain it's expencive.
Definitely, the use of stand mixer in particular like Kitchen Aid is to knead dough. That 45$ hand-stand mixer hybrid won't even be able to handle dough even if it came with dough attachment. When he said what the heck is this at 4:55 I died a little inside. That's basically why most people buy Kitchenaid T.T
It is expensive but it's worth it, sturdy mixer for home baking, I've had mine for 4 years and I have made a lot of bread, cakes , cookies and meringues with cero issues, keep in mind that every year I used to buy a new hand mixer bc i ended up burning em.

I think it can be worth it if you use it enough to justify the cost. I just got my mom a classic Kitchenaid tilt head in white and the metal meat grinder attachment. She used the grinder to grind about 10-12lbs of fish and the flat paddle beater to mix the ground fish with tapioca flour to make her speciality, fish meatballs. She’s older now and doing it by hand is tough work and takes a lot more time. So if you use regularly it for tough tedious tasks like kneading bread dough or mixing batters, it can be worth the high cost.
I got one and don't regret the price or color or how much I do or don't use it. This video just seems like the dude is regretting his purchase and has no clue what the Kitchen Aid mixer can do over the other cheap garbage mixers he has shown. He does not even know what the hook attachment is used for!!! Just keep purchasing your boxed pasta and other non-homemade products that are not fresh and full of preservatives and other garbage that are very unhealthy for you. I'm sure anyone that clicked on this video would be happy to take that Kitchen Aid mixer off your hands.
I agree that $400 is a steep price. I bought a KA 500 Stand Mixer Pro with bowl-lift for about $260 (yes, online shopping); I've had it for over 10 years and while I only bake once in a while, it's an absolute joy to work with this machine. This mixer is fast, strong, easy to use, and easy to clean. I'm also confident, I'll never need to replace it which is always a goal of mine when buying durable items - that helps make it worth the price. As with any purchase, do some shopping before you buy - prices vary a lot.
I am on my third kitchen aid stand mixer in 20 years. They all broke. They cannot handle dough and my most recent one - raspberry pink - was beating butter for frosting and somehow vibrated off of the counter and fell into sink. Shooting glass and butter all over the kitchen.

I am sorry, but I can't take this video seriously because you didn't use the stand mixer correctly. You need to lock the head,( switch is on the other side,) to improve mixing. Also, it is expensive and I totally agree with you. But also, the way a KitchenAid works does beat the rest. Planetary mixing action is amazing because it incorporates ingredients better than hand or so far any other mixer on the market as far as my research. Thanks for the video though!
Hello, Baking with Scott. This is Pete. For clarification, I've used Kitchenaid stand mixers for more than 10 years, and I've made this particular recipe dozens of times on this artisan series. I know the strain of this mix on the mixer and understood that locking it in place was unnecessary and actually tedious, especially considering how often I was lifting the head up (I don't like pouring flour in with the head down because it makes the mixer needlessly dirty). Also, when I add in the chocolate chips, I actually do a little manual lift of the head to prevent them from crumbling. tl;dr I intentionally and strategically left the head unlocked.
I have a cheap hand held mixer which I bought quite a few years ago; still works very well for the things that I use it for. I have been pondering about buying a stand mixer, but I would like one that would do almost what a good expensive one does, but for 1/5 of the cost.
I see what you mean, but coming from a hand mixer, it seems great! I’m so tired of scraping! People say the tilt head makes most of it fall off and that sounds amazing
We have a 5 quart white mixer that is over 35 years old. Have purchased the attachments (which pretty much goes with all the original mixers - not the larger ones) - I got vintage metal shredder from ebay
I got the pro line 7qt in candy apple red. It’s a major game changer if you want to make dough or big batches of things. I use mine every weekend. I paid $500 vs the msrp $630
Just made 3200 grams of brioche bread dough on my 7qt artisan professional. Barley even got warm. Granted its brand spankin' new and still crossing my fingers that it will hold up to the hype as the best out there. The reviews seem mixed. Some RUclips lady had one last 7 years of bread baking... As much as we wish they will last forever how long do they actually? What does it take to break it?
Well it’s opinion and we all have options. Thanks for your review. I don’t use mine daily BUT i love to have it because it does multiple functions other than baking. I bought ice cream attachment, shredder/slicer attachment, and a attachment that cores and peels and does the zucchini spaghetti spirals. Love it. It even has an attachment for pasta, meat grinder and juicer. I want the pasta attachment. It’s quite costly. Does that Hamilton have the option to use other attachments. Again thanks for sharing.
Pete was feisty in this review. He ultimately meant to convey that a lot of people buy these mixers and then hardly ever use them. In instances like that, it's not really a good value proposition to get one unless you are counting on it retaining resell value (which might actually be a valid argument; they're curently selling for $200-300 on Offerup in Los Angeles)
Have 2 a White Classic and a White Artisan. You stated that you could list numerous for a 1/10 the price… well I picked up the Classic for $30, updated the switch for $22, works perfect for $52 and an hours work. Grabbed a fully functioning Artisan for $40. I had the Hamilton Beach you talk about. Burnt it up in under 2 months. Watch Craig’s List… $50 used is a steal. What city did you grow up in? I did New York, Salt Lake City and have never gone fetal on anything.
Hamilton Beach makes the planetary type of stand mixers but for me when it comes to planetary stand mixers, nothing beats my KitchenAid (or maybe Cuisinart)!
The "thing" you held up and have no idea what it is, is called a dough hook. No offense but if you don't know what a dough hook is then your opinion is likely not even worth listening to. I have a red Artison. I Would have preferred the blue or silver but back about 5-6 years ago when I bought mine red was the color on sale for like $200 with a few free attachments. I bought mine for the sole purpose of kneading dough for pizza. I use it every week during the winter and occasionally during the warmer months. I'm sure I could have bought a cheap $50 mixer but I doubt I would still be using it right now. The strain on the motor kneading a high protein elastic dough mixture would likely cause early failure.
It was a joke - Pete uses it monthly. I understand what you're saying though but we were reviewing this for the average consumer and not someone who uses it multiple times a week. Apologies for the confusion :) - Austin
@@DeepCurve300 Actually I didn't, granted it was still about 5 minutes of my time wasted. His opinion is NOT worth listening too either. I was looking for information on this model and his video came up, so I started watching it. I have not watched any other videos with his opinion. Go watch his other videos you will not see me commenting on them because I have zero interest in watching them. Furthermore I am hardly an "elitist" and I don't really bake. The only thing I make with my mixer is pizza dough, that's all.
Disagree. A hand mixer does not have the power to do a stiff dough. I make stiff doughs all the time. I've had my KitchenAid for about 30 years, often use it several times a week, and it has never had a hiccup (mine is a 300 watt model - KSM103 and the Artisan is 325 watts). The only issue I have had is that after about 10 years of heavy use, the paint starts to wear off the paddle for me, but I do wash it in the dishwasher - maybe it would last longer if hand washed. I am on my third paddle. 😬 Still would buy the mixer again in a heartbeat. In fact, I just bought my daughter the Artisan in silver. Can anyone comment on how well the paddle with the rubber scraper along the edge works with the Artisan? Does it actually reach the side of the bowl to scrape the bowl as it mixes? I've watched a couple videos in which it doesn't look like it really reaches, which makes me wonder what is the point of the rubber scraper...?
That's definitely worth it! But which shade of red? There's empire red, passion red, watermelon, gloss cinnamon, grenadine, and those are just the colors currently in their lineup! lol
Just do your homework first about production and then make a video. Make a pound of bread dough or pasta dough in that mixer from Amazon. I would love to see that test :)
I get it. They’re expensive, they are seen as a status symbol, and not everyone needs one. But if you love cooking, they are a must have! Also while the pasta attachments are expensive, I know the pain of using a stand alone pasta maker, trust me it sucks! I would take the kitchenaid pasta attachments over a stand alone any day! No need to crank and best of all, THEY DON’T SLIDE!!!
Purchased an artisan for its strength to be able to kneed dough for the first 80% of prep. Use it for pasta. Custom fit even a ravioli attachment and I use a foot pedal to turn it off and on. It's gets used quiet often. And after it's done, it goes in the pantry...where it's hidden.
Nice! Yeah, if you use it often you can definitely get your money's worth from it. If you're like Pete though and only use it once a month then there are cheaper options.
Quality equals longevity. Walmart brands won't last as long. All the accessory offered replace the need for tons of appliances taking up tons of space.
I bought my KitchenAid 4.5 quart Deluxe Tilt Head Stand Mixer from Walmart for about $247. I think it’s a better decent price compared to the Artisan in my opinion. Plus I DO USE IT! In fact, I use the HELL out of it lol!
I do not agree with you. Although I do not have a kitchen aid mainly because it is too expensive, I still wish to have one. Having tried other reputable brand and being baking alot I understand the difference it makes. Its heaviness essential in that dough mixing, this is alone a great feature I wish for
Yeah but resale value ,Hamilton beach if you ever want to resell it will get you maybe $10 on Facebook marketplace whereas the kitchen aid will get you $200 all day long
That's a great color option and not one that I've ever seen in somebody's home! Normally people go for red, black, silver, or white. I appreciate the uniqueness! - Pete
You should only buy one IF you're going to use it. Plenty of people love the look of it and it's reputation, and end up not using it all that much. For them I recommend a good hand mixer instead. Otherwise it's a very expensive buy that ends up very neglected. When THIS is the case, then it's not worth it.
I disagree people are buying these because it does the work for you and all the attachments it has like the dough hook, whisk, and paddle these all help you instead of putting on the hard work and most of the points you make are your own opinion
Most women know the difference in the performance of a work horse and a standard Supermarket mixer. You are comparing a work horse to what old 400 watt mixers can do but dont have enough torque. I still have my 1965 Mixmaster that I use for mixing light weight ingredients. But it cannot be used for mixing bread doughs, pizza doughs etc. it would burn up.
You don't need if you can't cook. I can cook. I need it. I burned out the motor on 4 mixers in one year. You didn't use a mixer last year. This is cheaper than 4 mixers a year for 15 years. Truth.
Obviously you are not a cook or baker. Cheaper models cannot hold up to Bread or Bagel dough Kneading. They do not have the torc to knead these doughs. If you are a baker of breads, especially artisans breads you will go through dozens of cheaper mixers compared to one Kitchenaid. The shape of the paddles is also very important and Kitchenaid has the best to cut down on having to stop the mixer and continually scrape the bowl. I use to go through a mixer every 5 years until I finally bought the kitchenaid Artisans. I'm in my 70's and hand kneading dough is just not an option any more. If you only use a mixer once a week then by all means buy a 50.00 mixer.
It’s the first time I completely disagree with all being said in the video -.- I mean what the hell of comparisons are made? “You can buy pasta at Walmart instead of doing it” well no Shit Sherlock Comparing a normal kitchen “handheld”mixer with a kitchen aid is just sad, I want to see how well you are going to mix a dough for bread with a whisper I mean when was the last time you have bought something that is going to last decades and will still be worth repairing? This thing is made so you can actually give it to someone to repair or grab a screwdriver and do it you self. I think it’s not worth it to list all pros. I mean it has also cons, no doubt but the video is not about it
Generally, the best deal you're going to get outside of a big sale day is purchasing refurbished directly through Kitchenaid's website. Refurbished models there go for $260.
If you don’t use it, know how to use it or not interested in using it, of course it is not worth buying even if it was 12$. By your attitude it suggests that even that amazon 40$ one is not worth it for a person like you. This is the worst review ever, just a bad joke.
This is Pete. I want to start by saying I definitely underplayed my experience with these mixers. I've had my Kitchenaid stand mixer for years. Prior to that, my family had one when I was growing up. My best friend's family had one. I know COUNTLESS people who have either wanted one or had one, and I have years of experience with it, using every provided attachment (yes, even the dough hook I joked about) as well as additional accessories like an ice cream maker, pasta maker, meat grinder, etc. The point I am trying to convey is that there is a culture around these mixers that makes people want them despite having a real need for them. I can't tell you how many people I know who have one but only use it once a month at most. I've become one of those people. It's really great quality, but paying upwards of $400 for a mixer that often goes on sale for much less is a big waste of money if you aren't going to use it on a regular basis. Just get a hand mixer or the option I mentioned in the video. Save your money and save the hassle. Or wait until Black Friday sales knock it down to the $200 range. I believe I paid $250 for mine, which might still be too much for how often I use it now.
What an stupid video! Well yeah buy a mixer for 10th of the price and you’ll get what you paid for! Kitchenaid mixers last forever, they worth the price for sure!
It was about 70% serious. We were trying to have fun with this one but learned a lot based on the feedback in the comments. He does have a lot of experience with it and uses it once two twice a month but we were trying to review it for the average consumer and not for the professional. - Austin
If you use it, it will barely last two years. They aren't that great. They don't service them. They have some shocking design flaws. They are a rip off.
Pete here. I personally own the Kitchenaid mixer that is featured in the video, and have owned it for 5 years. I tried to present the case that the majority of people who would buy this probably doesn't need to spend $400+ on one. You can get refurbished models right now on Kitchenaid's website in multiple colors for $259, which is nearing a price point of reason. Still, though, there are comparable products that are more affordable than even that discounted price point, like the Cuisinart SM-50BC which is currently on sale for $209 at Amazon.
We bought a Massimo stand mixer at Hart Maison Engros at Place Vertu, Montreal. It worked great the first time. The second time the locking mechanism seemed broken. Maison Engros said one week had passed, they have nothing to do with it, perhaps call the manufacturer, but no number was listed. We tried our luck calling Maison Condelle the name listed on Massimo packaging. They passed us on a lady by the name of M. Dessur......, customer rep at Hart Stores. She seemed very nice and willing to help. We did what she asked: send her the receipt and any details by email. That was the end, we heard nothing further from her. Phone calls left at Hart Stores were met with silence.

@@slickdeals Okay, sorry for the confusion. Thanks for your input!
I found a complete a complete spiralizer attachment at a thrift shop for $7. That normally runs around $99 new from a thrift store.
I have a cheap hand held mixer which I bought quite a few years ago; still works very well for the things that I use it for. I have been pondering about buying a stand mixer, but I would like one that would do almost what a good expensive one does, but for 1/5 of the cost.
In Sweden we have to pay 921Usd for the standard colors, and up to 1267usd for the more exclusive colors for the Artisan...
The Artisan tilt-head design seems inferior to the Pro 5. I'm biased, being an owner of the latter, which always does a great job.
They are definitely good products that are generally reliable - built to last.
@@slickdeals how long on average do they last? When used frequently for bread doughs and such.
That's what they are designed for after all
I got the pro line 7qt in candy apple red.
@@reubenk1615 I would imagine it just depends on how often you use them. Mine is still going strong and not even getting hot.
In instances like that, it's not really a good value proposition to get one unless you are counting on it retaining resell value (which might actually be a valid argument; they're curently selling for $200-300 on Offerup in Los Angeles)
oh that is my next purchase is the ice cream maker.
I bought my Pro 550+ 6qt 12 years ago for $199Cdn...no regrets!
Jeez, the dismissive elitism of the baking community. His opinion IS worth listening to, YOU chose to keep listening past that point.
We bought it last week and using almost every 2 days for dough, roti, biscuits, bread and other stuff.
Yes I do red love red paid 149.00 over Christmas years ago. I use it 1-2 time a week.
That's definitely worth it! But which shade of red? There's empire red, passion red, watermelon, gloss cinnamon, grenadine, and those are just the colors currently in their lineup! lol
@@slickdeals Well do not know It's bright RED !!!
All the accessory offered replace the need for tons of appliances taking up tons of space.
the attachment that looks like a hook is for kneading i think
Nice try, this is clearly some sort of advertisement for KA. Why did you not show us this mixer tackling those chocolate chips!!!! 2:50
I just bought a refurbished one for $180. I think they're still worth the money at full price, but why pay full price if you don't have to?
I bake bread with my pro 600 series, in empire red. It was a great deal at Costco.
I bought my KitchenAid 4.5 quart Deluxe Tilt Head Stand Mixer from Walmart for about $247.
I think it’s a better decent price compared to the Artisan in my opinion.
Plus I DO USE IT! In fact, I use the HELL out of it lol!
You can always purchase the 5 quart bowl separately. Either the glass or stainless steel.
@@robertknight4672 I gonna get the Glass Bowl!
I bought one at a flea market, with all the attachments, for $40 so I'd say it's worth it...
I have a KitchenAid and I love it. My husband and I both use it often, for someone who claims to not like it you sure brag on it,
I got a White one and rarely use my mixer. It now has an oil leak and I had to throw out my cake!!!!!
Silver because it matches my other kitchen appliances.
I do not agree with you. Although I do not have a kitchen aid mainly because it is too expensive, I still wish to have one. Having tried other reputable brand and being baking alot I understand the difference it makes. Its heaviness essential in that dough mixing, this is alone a great feature I wish for
So we aren't gonna talk about how good his cookies came out then
Yeah but the Kitchenaid stand mixers usually last longer than average car so I’d say longevity alone is a reason to purchase.
Found mode in a side of a road and it works
4:55 this question invalidates the whole video 😭😭😭
You shoulda let granny review this for you.
Yeah but resale value ,Hamilton beach if you ever want to resell it will get you maybe $10 on Facebook marketplace whereas the kitchen aid will get you $200 all day long
the j hook is a dough hook for making bread as I do it every day
I have 2, both artisan one lavender and one ice
I have a candy apple red finish with stainless steel bowl and extra glass bowl. Used my Marriott Rewards points and I love it!
I use a kitchenaid HAND mixer in mint blue and I am tired! That is why I was watching this video. 😆
$400 for this??!
What the fucking hell?????
In Europe that shit costs €600 which is approx $700?!?!?!
I disagree people are buying these because it does the work for you and all the attachments it has like the dough hook, whisk, and paddle these all help you instead of putting on the hard work and most of the points you make are your own opinion
Well said. I want one. Thanks.
Truth.
I kinda agree but caterers 😊
When he asekd why you need a pasta maker when you can buy Wallmart spaghetti, he lost me...
Yes its worth it unless you want to use the hand mixer
It’s the first time I completely disagree with all being said in the video -.-
I mean what the hell of comparisons are made?
“You can buy pasta at Walmart instead of doing it” well no Shit Sherlock
Comparing a normal kitchen “handheld”mixer with a kitchen aid is just sad, I want to see how well you are going to mix a dough for bread with a whisper
I mean when was the last time you have bought something that is going to last decades and will still be worth repairing? This thing is made so you can actually give it to someone to repair or grab a screwdriver and do it you self.
I think it’s not worth it to list all pros. I mean it has also cons, no doubt but the video is not about it
I really want one.
Generally, the best deal you're going to get outside of a big sale day is purchasing refurbished directly through Kitchenaid's website. Refurbished models there go for $260.
just zip it! it's worth every cent
Damn, you look like Jerry from Rick & Morty!
Thank you. I dressed as Sleepy Gary for Halloween last year. - Pete
You didn't try hot water first... Really!? Lol!
What an stupid video! Well yeah buy a mixer for 10th of the price and you’ll get what you paid for! Kitchenaid mixers last forever, they worth the price for sure!
Thanks for the kind words ;) - Austin
I have the color milkshake
4:55 Doesn't know what a dough hook is. Seems legit.
Sometimes our jokes fall flat. We'll try to make them better but yes, Pete does know what a dough hook is.
With how ridiculous everything sounded, I’m not sure whether or not this was meant to be serious.
It was about 70% serious. We were trying to have fun with this one but learned a lot based on the feedback in the comments. He does have a lot of experience with it and uses it once two twice a month but we were trying to review it for the average consumer and not for the professional. - Austin
Sounds like you are a goofball since you bought one and use it once a month. Why buy one?
Those other mixers are not as good period.
Cool, a "review" by a guy who admits to not using it.. great watch.
I strongly disagree I love my Red KitchenAid mixer
If you use it, it will barely last two years. They aren't that great. They don't service them. They have some shocking design flaws. They are a rip off.
We get it, you like processed food.
This review was so biased it’s crazy. I was just looking for neutral information 🥴
Yikes. Boy, are you wrong.
This video is full of contradictions.
So funny
This is a bad video.
Thanks for the love!
We bought a Massimo stand mixer at Hart Maison Engros at Place Vertu,
Montreal. It worked great the first time. The second time the locking
mechanism seemed broken. Maison Engros said one week had passed, they
have nothing to do with it, perhaps call the manufacturer, but no number
was listed. We tried our luck calling Maison Condelle the name listed
on Massimo packaging. They passed us on a lady by the name of M.
Dessur......, customer rep at Hart Stores. She seemed very nice and
willing to help. We did what she asked: send her the receipt and any
details by email. That was the end, we heard nothing further from her.
Phone calls left at Hart Stores were met with silence.
