I absolutely love what she did in the middle part of no. 5 when the piece reaches its climax (19:48). Rather than playing at normal tempo, she slows down so you can enjoy more the right hand chords, love it. Havn't heard such a version before
it is brilliant interpretation
one of the truly greats,Idil Biret
Fabulous!! Again, among the very best.
She is a long-time favorite of mine.
Idil is right at the top and has been for many years. She has flawless technique and virtually perfect understanding of the music she plays. Her recordings, made from her vinyl days, of Saint Saens released a few years ago are a revelation.
She's amazing! Her performance of the Chopin Mazurkas is also beautiful.
A very very great pianist, I adore her!
Best op.39 no.2 ever. Sensible, not rushed and very interesting voicings and rubato
I don't think there is anyone who can play op 39 no1 this well...It sounds so easy...
it is really amazing!
A tip : you can watch series at flixzone. Been using them for watching a lot of movies recently.
@Ephraim Alonzo Yup, I have been using flixzone} for since november myself =)
fun fact she learned how to play a few of the beethovens sonatas and bachs fugues just from hearing it from her mom and on the radio without the knowledge of any notes when she was 4. she was the student of Kempf later on
L'un des plus émouvants enregistrements de ces Études qui soient. Une très grande ARTISTE - et quelle pianiste!
Best presentation of no 3. I used to satisfy myself with my playing.
She's terrific. I don't know why she isn't better known. SHe also has a knife -edged CD of the Ligeti Etudes.
Because she is Turkish, duh. Why would the western world make eastern voices be heard (while they can exploit their natural resources by fucking with their political systems and install puppet governments instead [of course under the name of bringing peace and democracy :D])?
I first got to know her on that knife-edged CD of Ligeti. She's amazing.
Perhaps some people have a bias toward "big name" record labels, e.g. Phillips, DG, and others. I believe she still records on Naxos.
@@johannsebastianbach3411 Take your politics elsewhere fool.
@@andrewpetersen5272 calling Bach himself a fool? Know your place!
An interesting note. This lady has also performed and recorded the symphonies of Beethoven as transcribed for piano by Franz Liszt.
...and Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique!! (also transcribed by Liszt)
Thanks for such an important upload... Shared on Google+
A wonderful, in relation to the usual performance practice of these pieces beautifully idiosyncratical, very "Kempff-ian" interpretation. Just great. Refreshingly different.
why you say so? Do you know Kempff was her lifelong friend? He was his teacher, but he himself considered her a colleague since she was 11 years old.
Luis Kolodin i know he was her teacher. Also, listening to her it is clear that she was very influenced by him, that it shaped her artistic identity deeply.
Magnifique !
In 1959 Emil Gilels invited her to play in the Soviet Union. She said yes with great enthusiasm. Sometime later Idil Biret received an invitation from Goskonzert for an eight concert tour of the Soviet union in 1960. Following the great public enthusiasm at the opening concert of the tour at the Great Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow (the public waited outside the artists entrance; stopped the car Biret was traveling and raised it into the air) Goskonzert doubled the number of concerts in the tour to sixteen and Biret started and illustrious career in the Soviet Union.
i AM ABSOLUTELY GOBSMACKED!!!! EVEN MORE WITH THE FACT I HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS WOMAN
she was compared to Mozart in terms of musical talent (not necessarily composition), she heard her mother playing Bach Fugues and Beethoven Sonatas at the age of 4 and played them just from ear without even knowing notes. We know the progress of Mozart as a child from the detailed letters of his father to his mother. i know comparing someone to Mozart is a generic thing but in her case people actually looked into it and really thought she was even more talented than Mozart in some areas.

The only one where No. 7 is Grave indeed.
She's a legend! But she misses too many important notes in the left hand from 2:08 to 2:14 that I'm stunned surprised that she didn't record this again. :o
Idil Biret does not cut their recordings. Only minimal cuts. They are close as possible to a live performance, this makes it more organic and less artificial.
@@LuisKolodin yes... But I listened to it again 3 years later and still have the same opinion. She could have recorded it one more time.
@ Her rendition of this etudes is musically quite good but she is negligent with the text

say bye to lugansky recordings
Haha, yeees. Have you heard Chochieva's recording? It's also a revelation.
@@dang5874 thats true! her interpretation is supernatural.
no 3 is sounds like a rabbit jumping when she plays the octaves and the thirds, and it is clumsy, not very clean. But it is interesting playing.
Disagree with you. It is not clumsy at all.
@@ritorenello after listening to Zlata Chochieva to me it does :) but still good playing.
