I've been following these series for the last month and I am so excited to finally see my hometown in it! Great video and I hope you enjoyed your stay! Nazdrave
There were actually 42 churches in the Old Town, 12 of them still fully preserved. As for the mill, it used to be a storage unit, and the second floor was actually inhabited. Judging by how old it is, it probably wasn't used to generate electricity but more so to grind wheat into flour. (It is my home town and I was a tour guide for a year)
We loved it... first we knew nothing about it, but made a day trip from Burgas just out of curiosity as some Polish friends recommended it... and we fell in love with the old town so much that we stayed there just over three weeks... I think even those seagulls became our friends.
Very shocking video. Sober British tourists who are interested in sightseeing, local culture, and history!!! On top of that, they are well behaved, civilized with manners!!! In Bulgaria !!!!!! Near Suny Beach !!!! Unbelievable !!!! That is very rare and pleasant to watch. But it is so surreal.
They were literally saying they were hungover at the end of the video and they drink in every vlog. Nevertheless the quality of the videos is pretty good and these Bulgarian vlogs obviously boosted their channel and subscribers. They seem like an educated and well mannered couple compared to a lot of the British tourists visiting the Bulgarian coastline.
Thanks for the wonderful video from Nessebur, have many wonderful memories from there, one of my main memories was the old man who who played the Gaida (Bulgarian bagpipe) at the entrance to the old town, I think I heard he has sadly passed away, enjoy the rest of your travels and hope you found time for a visit to Varna!
You'll be pleased to know that he's still alive and going strong.... well at least he was last week when I walked past him! My girlfriend has an apartment there and has been visiting every holiday since she was 5 years old and she verifies that it's the same guy. His name is Petar Bonev.
Finally my home town! I wish I could give you recommendations guys but I know you've already left lol Too bad you stayed only for a day. Just to mention, the "road" was kind of always there, they just paved it in the 60s-70s. As far as locals know, the Mill has never worked as a proper mill, ie to grind flour, but there's a real one down the road. Most of the churches are actually under water, where a major part of the old town is now unfortunately. There's also an amphitheater, maybe you went there too. I hope you enjoyed your stay and had a blast in Sunny Beach. Definitely visit the marina of Sveti Vlas too!
That isnt the original windmill, the original one was facing the sea and it got brought down because of a very violent storm in the time frame of the 1800s or in the beggining of the 1900s sadly when it came down it killed 2 people that were standing underneath it. And it was not used to create electricity, it was used to process wheat. Hello from Nesebar :)
