It's a rather old technique to minimise plans and expectations for something like this (a new spaceship) for instance, and then to spectacularly exceed those plans. It's not much of risk. It doesn't make sense to test stuff in orbit when it should've been done on the ground or test stuff in orbit that failed whilst the spacecraft was on the pad or integration tower. It just adds to the risks to astronauts. Jettison the Starliner without astronauts and send a rescue craft or Dragon.

Manned space flight is hard. The engineering that goes into developing a spacecraft capable of sustaining human life and take it into space and return to the earth is not an easy task. Instead of people hating on Boeing, they should be cheering them on and supporting all of the work their team is conducting to make a return to earth a safe one for the crew. We should all want Boeing to succeed in getting Starliner and it's Astronauts back to earth safely. The future of manned spaceflight by the U.S. only becomes stronger if we have two different viable manned craft available.

I think Boeing is a mess but hating on starliner isnt helpful. The money has been spent, Boeing will correct these issues. The fixed price contract was a good deal for the tax payer. I wonder if the contract also has penalties if starliner isnt realiable? Just about every military aircraft has had issues or by the time they hit full rate production tons are spent to do upgrades. Just be happy Boeing was on the hook for all of the cost over-run.

Translation: We trouble shoot and repair in orbit from Earth. Let us work in peace, because it's hard and stressful. And more time is also needed to prepare an extra crew dragon for launch in case of an emergency. And please forget that NASA as a very professional organization planned the mission for a specific period to do and test everything within that time. Because we don't want scared astronauts. Let's keep things positive. Don't jinx the mission. We need 2-3 launch providers for crewed missions that are not from Russia.

Boeing BDS and the commercial airline side are COMPLETELY different standards. The 2 are not comparable at all. Boeing and NASA agreed to let the starliner stay at the ISS longer to ensure the starliner can remain in space for a longer period of time for longer missions in the future. Yall need to learn to do your own research. The astronauts will return home safely when they undock and have plenty of supllies and fuel for the retrun to earth.
