HI friends! My mom is here to share all about canning, gardening and growing up here in the Smoky Mountains! She has some wonderful memories of my grandparents and how they survived and thrived by growing and preserving their own food:-)
Oh Anita, I love this conversation with your mama! This is so wise what you've done in sitting down with her and asking questions like this. How I wish I would've done this with both of my grandmothers. My mom never did much with canning, but my grandmas did, and I'd give anything to sit down and talk with them about not only their preservation of food, but their lives in general. What a treasure this is for you...and all of us! Please do more of these with your mother...so invaluable...it is my heart.. 💝 And she's such a beautiful lady! Thank you for doing this, and convey my thanks and appreciation to your mother, as well. 💖💖💖
Anita, this was a wonderful video that is priceless. I love hearing your mom talk about her life experience’s and I honestly don’t know how she did all the things she has done to help make a living. She is a remarkable lady. Please do continue these interviews because she has so much to share. You are so fortunate to have her to teach you and thank God you are learning how to provide for your family just like she did when you were young.
Oh Anita, your mom is so precious. How blessed you are to have her in your life. Our mom's have shown us a Grace and contentment unknown in today's world of excess. We can learn so much from their wisdom and experiences. Looking forward to both of you again and again. Blessings from Michigan 😍
What a treat to have your mother sharing her memories and knowledge of preserving food. What a blessing to have her close to you and I must say she is the youngest 80 yr. old I have ever seen ! She needs to share her beauty secrets !!
Loved hearing your lovely mother share her memories! So many of them were reminiscent of my childhood helping my mother garden and preserve the harvest. They truly are the greatest generation.
Wow, I just want to say I just fell in love with your momma. She is a treasure for sure. I watch this video three times before but just watched it again. It made me cry because I grew up the same way she did. The video this time had a whole new perspective for me. Thank you
Oh Anita, your mother is just delightful! She reminds me of my grandma and she canned the best tasting vegis! We loved her pickled corn in large crocks. Ty for this sweet video and just love your big garden and your cellar full of God’s provisions!!
What a gem your Mom is. So glad you are videotaping her stories, they're wonderful! I haven't canned in years, but I absolutely loved it, baking bread and even baking my own graham crackers. There's nothing like home-baked and home canned food. Thank you for sharing.
Beautifully videographed! Love it! Brought back memories of my wood cook stove in my hippy days. Wood stoves are a lot of work and dirty but oh so warm in the winter and bread and cakes are so good from them. I’m in eastern NC and would love to have a root cellar but it is too hot and wet here. I work in my church garden and have bags of potatoes but they are stored in my back closet! Our way of life is not better than back then, except for healthcare. We build our homes dependent on stores without the equipment to survive if something were to happen. I do believe simpler is the best. Thank you to your Mama for sharing a little about her life. I know she has wonderful stories that you cherish. I will always remember this beautiful video and the pictures you shared.
I’m going to share this lovely and informative interview with my daughter as part of her homeschool curriculum! We really enjoy hearing actual accounts of the old ways. One of my best friends is in her 80’s and grew up in Germany during the war with nothing. She is a wealth of knowledge. I’m so glad you’ll have your mother back on to share her wisdom. We need this information now more than ever!
Hi Anita!! I really enjoyed your video, your mother is just darling! I love what she said when she said I don’t do it by the book. A lot of the canning that I have done over the years hasn’t been buy the book either it’s been according to granny Myrtle or aunt Shirley. I also love what you said about using everything that you have and not letting anything go to waste. I just love listening to stories like this, so much rich history. Thank you so much for sharing.
I am TOTALLY JEALOUS thanks so much MOM FOR SHARING YOUR PRECIOUS MEMORIES. I SO APPRECIATE YOU. IN JESUS HOLY NAME AMEN AND AMEN. GOD BLESS! SHARED TO THE BURGH!
