1:47 A small mistake. The letter "П" (P), in the designation of the DPM, this is not a machine gun (Pylemet), but an infantry (Pekhotny) designation.
For example, Degtyarev owns the authorship of another iconic machine gun of the Red Army, DT (DT-29) Degtyarev(D) Tank(T) machine gun. It was properly placed from the entire Soviet armored vehicle, as well as thanks to the disk on 60 rounds and a folding butt, he was popular in parachute and infantry units.

I’d wager that he doesn’t own a Fedorov Atvomat… yet.
There were only around three or four thousand produced and they were manufactured prior to the Bolshevik Revolution, so I would venture a guess that most saw heavy combat.

But the AK sounds good.
Degtyarev was a great designer... who sadly wasn't a fan of finishing, refining and fixing his designs. He could have made a belt feed adapter for DP-28 just like Shpagin did for his(Degtyarov's) DK turning it into renowned DShK(deserving or not is different question), but instead he chased new medal for new gun aka DS-39. Which wasn't ready neither for adoption, nor for mass production.
Imagine if soviet troops had RP-46 in 1941? Gunner being able to use drums on the move and switch to belt feed when he gets into position and assistant gunner with adapter and belts catches up?

Kamikoto is basically the same honkong based company as established titles. The knives are made in China, with the cheapest possible steel.
Shad made a video about how crap these knives are about six months ago and the whole kamikoto/Established titles scam was exposed about the time this video came out
Shit knives being marketed as good is something that has been happening forever. Anyone who knows anything about knives would have seen Kamikoto for what it was instantly, anyone who doesn't would probably be happy with them - which is most people. Whats the alternative, they don't buy Kamikoto and instead go into a big box department store and overpay for some other dogshit quality knives? This is just a new advertising medium for the same old bullshit - at least creators get paid for this snake oil.
Skartimus Prime yeah you should never buy anything from 90% of any RUclips sponsors and if you don't know that you're probably an idiot. Just ignore them like they don't exist.
@@skartimusprime4779 *Whats the alternative*
Well if you're lucky to have one go to your local craftsman and get a knife you need as test, and if that one is good order the entire cutlery drawer of them.
@@majormajorasic That is the alternative to you or me who care, not people who pretty much refuse to learn, take any interest or even listen to someone that does - we aren't the target market and that market will not go away. Your suggestion is also much harder than simply buying a completely affordable but awesome knife like a Victorinox Fibrox, those things cost bugger all and you can get them anywhere. It's not like it's even hard or expensive to get good knives, people just want to buy this tat and think it's special and they got a bargain, they want to believe this marketing. So yeah, at least Kamikoto gets creators paid, its going to happen with or without them.
at least they feed ak daddy’s gun addi- i mean hobby
As a side note: the P in DP-28 and DPM stands not for "Pulemet", but for "Pehotniy", which means "infantry" (or, I suppose, "infantry's" is more literal a translation). As in, "infantry machinegun". Degtyarev had other types of machineguns to his name, so I guess it makes sense? Confuses the living bejesus out of me every time, though.

Fun trivia: Here in Finland the DP-27 (and its variants) is colloquially known as "Emma". This comes from a late 20's popular song by the same name by Ture Ara (2nd most sold domestic single in Finland), and because the spinning magazine reminded the people of the time of gramophone record players.

COD World at War introduced me to the DP-28. But back then me and my buddies just called it the Trash Can Lid gun
I remember the DP-28 back from Call of Duty: Finest Hour on PS2. They had a chapter where you’d play as the Soviets for a few missions and there would occasionally be a DP-28 hidden somewhere. I remember the sewer mission has one hidden underneath an area you go prone.

You should try it with an RP46 felt feed adapter. The adapter replaces the pan magazine and lets you use SG43 belts. The Russian stop-gap belt-fed LMG later replaced by the RPD.
Kalashnikov and Degtyaryov knew what they were doing when it came to Firearms. Timeless designs.
First machinegun I got to shoot! As an ROTC cadet I attended “Spartan Training” at Fort Devens, MA. A week of training with the 10th Special Forces Group. One of the training activities was a range day with some obsolete US weapons as well as some Soviet block weapons. I have to say, for an 18 year old cadet, 5 rounds for “familiarization fire” through a DP28, SKS, and AKM was pretty cool. The 10th Special Forces always had foreign weapons on hand for their “sterile” missions.
Lol ROTC nerd
Me wondering when they allowed freshman cadets to go to trainings?
@@lawoftheland5923 I’ve never heard of it, especially with SOF. Got to train with them for a month long assignment as regular Army Infantry and even that is unusual
@@clownworld4655 yeah..... Agreed. This sounds like some bullshit. Not saying it couldn't happen, but it sounds extremely unlikely unless some kid had a close relative who's a general or something.

I'd like to see you do the BAR right behind this if at all possible
Brandon, consider the RP-46 belt-fed conversion of the DPM.
Soviets saw the German mg34/42, and said "we need something like that".
So they made an attachment that locks on to the feeding mechanism where the pan mag sits, modified the gas system to make it work and used a heavier barrel for sustained fire, and voila, belt fed DP.
This conversion of existing stocks of DPM was the interim infantry MG in Soviet issue, until Kalashnikov completed the PK.
The dig at California killed me. Also, I applaud your choice in the Russian Badger

I noticed that you have a Polish-made DPM.
DPM is a DP-27 with pistol grip added to it, and new recoil spring housing.

They have literally always been absolutely garbage at war. They were completely KOed in WW1, the Japanese utterly mauled them in the Ruso-Japanese War, the Poles once occupied Moscow, Napoleon took Moscow, the Swedes kicked their face in, and pretty much everyone else who lined up quite handily kicked them around. They have always and will always be utterly rubbish at war.
@@demomanchaos Mind you, Napoleon made it to Moscow on horses way faster than Hitler with tanks. General Frost got a hell of an upgrade with soviet planned economy implemented almost in time.
You should get your hands on a Federov Avtomat if you can, somehow. I don't know of anyone on youtube who has video of it being shot, and only Ian has any video of the inside guts of the rifle. Would be really cool to see one in action on the range. I'm sure it goes without saying, and that you've been trying, but I thought I'd put the good word in since you keep asking what other cool guns we want to see.
I'll add a couple of interesting facts.
1. DP is a descendant of the legendary Fedorov Avtomat: the Red Army soldiers regarded it as a hand-held machine gun, and not as an assault rifle, as Fedorov himself saw it, at the beginning a heat-protective casing from Madsen was attached to the machine gun, which was never started in Kovrov (although at the beginning of the ebu they attached a casing from a Lewis machine gun, and a little later water cooling), then there was a variation with a disc magazine and a bayonet. And in 1924, the Revolutionary Military Council banned the use of other cartridges, except for 7.62 * 54R. Therefore, a new variation of the machine gun was worked for him, additionally lost the whole box, receiving only a butt made of wood and a box magazine on top. But the automation remained from the same Fedorov machine, so it often broke down. Also, the military did not like the store that closes the review. Therefore, then the Maxim-Tokarev machine gun won. But it was considered as a temporary option. Therefore, by the next contest Degtyarev completely changed the automation and added a disk magazine.
2. DP had several relatives. The first one is YES, that is, the Degtyarev Aviation, which was decommissioned due to the appearance of the SHKAS machine gun, which had a rate of fire of 1800 rounds per minute. But a muzzle brake, used later on the DShK, and a 63-cartridge magazine appeared on it. And this store was used on the DT (Degtyarev Tank), which was in service with all Soviet tanks of the Second World War. Next comes the RP-46. In fact, this is the same DPM, only with a special adapter that allowed it to be powered from the same tapes as the SG-43 machine gun. But if necessary, it could be removed and disk stores could be used. Yes, just like on HK21. But then the Kalashnikov Machine Gun appeared. Well, his last descendant is the RPD, which was originally created for a competition for a "Heavy Avtomat", the essence of which was the creation of a machine gun for an intermediate cartridge. Then the favorite was Sudaev Avtomat. And Degtyarev made 2 options: in fact, the same DPM for the 7.62 * 41 cartridge (then still 41) and the same pord tape power, which was the beginning of a new class of weapons.
3. There were variations of accidents with different types of ammunition. It was under a cloth tape from a Maxim machine gun, it was under rigid tapes like a Hotchkiss machine gun, it was under semi-rigid tapes and with a radiator like Lewis, it was with a sector magazine... Moreover, there was an installation of 4 such machine guns. Well, there was also a bunker-powered machine gun like the Japanese Type 11, only in the USSR, unlike the USA, there was an extra pencil that was broken by the spring of this store, which became an illustration of the reluctance to have such a scheme. And in the USA it was not found, and Garand began his crusade against the fingers.
P.S. The idea to make a light machine gun as an enhanced version of an assault rifle was proposed not by Kalashnikov, but by Korobov. And as it turns out, such a scheme provides not only logistical, but also combat interchangeability of ammunition, improves logistics well in terms of spare parts and unifies production.
Dêgtârôv was the pioneer of unification of firearms: DP, DT, DA. Dêgtârôv pêhotnyj/tankovyj/aviacionnyj.

Here is something that has been told again and again, but the DP-28's (or DP-27 according to others) nickname in Finnish service (captured from the Soviets) was "Emma", after some popular song of the time. This nickname was born because the magazine resembled a gramophone record spinning and "playing music" as you fired. The song in question was very well known and the name stuck to the Degtyarev like glue.

I honestly kind of wish that video games did make the DP-27/28/M actually the same power as a Mosin Nagant, because accurate ballistic power in general would just be fun, especially in the military simulator games like Arma and it would be a nice little touch of realism

And in true Russian fashion the heating element is placed outside as to not cook the food properly because heat is a luxury reserved only for filthy capitalists
Russians dont have food.
у моего деда он всë ещë стоит на кухне. Чтобы разогреть суп приходится выбегать на улицу.
Assuming they had food on the frontlines
I've seen quite a bit of DP in action, but this one definitely takes the cake.
I don't know when I'd ever use it, but I love the quote of "Light machine gun. Because heavy machine guns need a truck."
Kind of minute detail, but as a pizza maker I couldn’t help but laugh. That super tiny plate under the comparatively large pizza is so accurate. My boss won’t buy bigger plates and the pizzas hang over the edge of ours. I think it’s some super Italian thing, but it makes me kind of nervous. Thank you Brandon for this chuckle even though it’s some super specific and small thing.
Great video Brandon. I would be interested in seeing an m45 or a De Lisle Carbine if one comes up.
Brian please please please test "bullet proof stuff" en garde is one of the many I've seen online and i think it would be cool for a video idea
Just started the video but just from the intro I already know I’m gonna love this, the dp27 is still my favorite LMG ever created
Too bad this is a dp28. Hopefully one day you get the 27
Brandon, if I remember correctly, this machine gun design is caused by the fact that Degtyarev worked as a locksmith at the Tula Arms Factory in his youth.
He designed the machine gun in such a way specifically so that the parts of the weapon could be quickly manufactured by less qualified locksmiths.
Vasílij Alêksêêvič had a tough youth years. I've read a 240 pages book-monument about his legacy. As far as I remember, his creative was done together with Vladimír Grigórjêvič Fôdorov. And that principle of breechblock design is his idea of the attempt to develop a self-loading rifle of 1916.
0:50 really like this rendition of you spin me like a record
Cool mg. This would be #5 on my wish list. Already have the coolest rifle,m44.
Brandon you have one of the best gun channels on RUclips! It's a just the right amount of serious and nerdy gun talk, with a bit of goofiness on the side 👍
New subscriber. I have A lot to catch up on. I saw one of your Darwin Awards show, and was hooked. Keep up the great work. I live South of Ky. Ballistics. Peace, John.
16:29 why was expecting "As always, hit that notification bell so you won't miss any future russian big daka" after that ding on the steel
