Added bonus to Persimmon is using the leaves to make tea! My tree around 4-5yrs old is still small around 5ft+ gives me more fruit than I can eat. I have to force myself to not pluck too many leaves. Excellent video Kang!!
Thank you for all you do brother.
Great video, well detailed, and explained! Thank you!😆
Very good advice! am looking to add one to my fruit permaculture.
In addition to what you've mentioned...
When one plants bare root tree, consider removing flowers first year or small fruits that it starts producing, to allow the tree to utilize all the energy to establish itself, do not summer prune which might cause root dieback and allow as many leaves to grow.
Great Vid! Best from MA!
Very nice trees and good for cold zones.
You're right, they are very cold hardy.
Love the shirt!!!!!
Very nice. These fruits help with the immune system.
Healthy looking trees!
Butterfly persimsom i' m love ❤❤❤
I thought i was going to die when i took a bite of the astringent variety lol. You can put it in a ziplock bag with sake (japanese rice wine) to speed up the process. its like magic! the power of sake 😁
We have wild persimmons on our property and I did the same! lol
I wish I could grow Japanese persimmons, but they just don't do well down here in south Florida. I was able to purchase a Triumph variety at a local Rare Fruit Tree Council sale last October. I transplanted the 15-inch grafted tree into a one-gallon pot, changed the soil and waited for it to wake up. It dropped the few leaves that had and looked very much like a dead twig until finally showing new leaves about a month ago. Two weeks ago, it flowered and even set one fruitlet. It looked ridiculous since no branch on it was longer than an inch long. I picked off the fruitlet and started to fertilize it. Very little growth ever since but hoping it will speed up when we hit Summer. What is your fertilization regimen for your persimmon trees?
I planted an astringent variety (Nikita's Gift) last Fall. It came out of dormancy this month.
Great variety!
i got one from local nursery here in Charlotte last summer, it is putting lot of branches with flowers, what fertilizer you recommend, please let us know
I try to keep it simple and usually fertilize with Alaska Fish fertilizer and some compost I made. It is so amazing that they don't need much.
Khang Starr! First! Just bought seeds to grow!
Spend your money on a grafted Persimmon tree. It'll fruit faster and fruit true to type. Seeds dont garrantee true to type.
@@jobird354 Very true. Planting from seeds could take too long. Grafted tree is the way to go.
Hi ! I saw your video on how to manually hybridize two different chili peppers, does the flower of the mother plant have to be closed?
It's best to used a closed flower that is about to open since you're for sure that nothing has pollinate it. Peppers are self-pollinating plants, so when the flowers are opened, they may already be pollinated.
Thank you very much
Thank you for sharing, where are you located? I am in zone 6
Zone 8A
I would thin some of those fruits. Too many fruit will weigh the branches down. Peach trees need to be thinned so that there is no more than one fruit every six inches along the branch. (University Agriculture Extension services also recommend doing this for Plums, Kiwis, Asian Pears, Peaches as mentioned, Persimmons and Apricots.) Thinning also gives the remaining fruit a better chance to grow bigger and be healthier.
Great advice. Pruning young trees is definitely a must to allow all the energy to go into growing bigger.
@@KhangStarr It is also important to keep in mind where on the tree the fruit will grow. Sometimes that might be on only two year old wood. So unless we want to feed the birds, keeping the tree a manageable size with the fruiting branches always easily accessible would be my goal. I've learned that an old rule many arborists use for non-fruiting trees (to only prune in winter during dormancy) doesn't apply to fruit trees as we can all learn from commercial orchardists.
Great info! I only have the potted option to grow fuyu. Have you ever tried to grow them potted? What's the optimal size?
@@vnxettitw4879 My Fuyu Persimmon is in its 3rd year now and is planted in the ground. I'm in zone 8B. So I wouldn't know. I would think you can if the pot is large enough and you keep the tree well pruned. I would think a minimum of a 20 gallon grow bag might work. A wine cask would probably be ideal as containers go .
Master can you start persimmon in your aero garden for root stock
Yes, but the roots grow long, so I don't suggest aerogarden for trees.
I see you hang CD disk to prevent squirrels from eating your persimmons, does it work?
Not really lol. maybe I need to put more.
how old is the tree bears many baby fruits @13:00? thanks.
I have had it for 5 years.
Can we not grown in ground? Does it need full Sun? It’s because I have clay soil. All things I grow will die.
Yes, you can grow in large pots.
Long time buddy
I got 7 persimmon tree only one astringent 6 none astringent and now it’s May here in Australia so much fruit, I don’t know how can we eat this much fruit. I got the astringent and the none astringent. The astringent is an early persimon.
What a great problem to have! Give them to your Asian friends, they will love you =)
@@KhangStarr it’s not a problem
Just few month ago when it was season of that fruit I was interested is it well known fruit in USA and etc. In my area (Eastern Europe) it was 2$/1kg month ago
What is that CD hanging in the tree
Most likely acting as scarecrow for birds.
@@AlenAbdula That is right, it's my attempt at scaring the birds =)
Does it work, I live out in the desert I do have birds.
@@daisyslittlemiracle7171 anything that moves and shines like that has potential but birds are clever you'll have to rotate your props. I've even used VHS tape film. Last year I covered my whole cherry tree with insect netting. 🤣
It's hard to grow stuff over here. My soil is high in alkaline. I have to use a lot of manure and home made fertilizer to balance it out. Last year, I had an infestation of brown grasshoppers. This year only a couple, so happy 😂.
if it takes persimmon 4 to 5 years to grow fruits, grafting scions from a mature tree to a year or 2 old rootstocks will push fruiting year earlier? Thanks
Yes, that's what I did and my pear from seed fruited in 3 years.
