    Hi Dr! Amazing information ypu have generously shared in your video. Am feeling so so grateful, just using the cotton in my upper lip made my gummy smile normal again and mentalis strain regulate. Made me so happy to see my beautiful amile back I could cry. Braces fucked up my muscles big time and changed my lower face entirely.

    Thank you for your valuable video. So during the day we can focus on closing the mouth and sealing the lips, but how can we do it while we are sleep. How to manage breathing from nose. Thank you

    Hello! I'm seeking advice on how to strengthen my upper lip. Currently, my mentalis muscle is overactive, causing a chin dimple to form when I close my lips. Furthermore, my lower lip is slightly flipped outward. When I use a cotton roll to exercise my upper lip and attempt to close my mouth, I notice increased activity in my mentalis muscle, resulting in deeper chin dimples. However, I'm confused about how this exercise will effectively target and strengthen my upper lip, as it seems to be primarily engaging my mentalis muscle. Can you please clarify the intended mechanism and benefits of this exercise for upper lip strength

    Would repeating the exercise more than once a day speed up the process? How long this should be done for?

    I love the technique. My philtrum is very short. Will this thing make my philtrum longer over time ?

    • @allsleepashley
      @allsleepashley  3 года назад +2

      It has the potential to allow the philtrum to rest in a more lengthened position. I have seen this do wonders for most patients. There are a few patients this does not seem to help. It depends on several factors: skeletal growth, soft tissue elasticity, consistency with the exercise, soft tissue limitations (lip tie), etc. It's certainly worth trying as it is cheap and non-invasive.

    Is this useful for wrinkled chin? How does this work? What is the explanation behind it please?

    • @allsleepashley
      @allsleepashley  3 года назад +2

      This exercise has the potential to decrease wrinkling in the chin. It promotes a more lengthened resting position of the lips. Closing the lips from a more lengthened starting position will decrease the amount of counter strain placed on the mentalis as the lower lip elevates. This is certainly worth trying. In some cases, a longer lower face skeletal structure is difficult to overcome with exercises.. but it is almost always worth trying exercises like this before resorting to more high-risk and expensive interventions.

      @@allsleepashley I’m 24 though and the dimples in my chin are really bad since I can remember. Does exercise really help? Because I know botox won’t help, they would just relax my muscle and then I cannot even close my mouth

    • @allsleepashley
      @allsleepashley  2 года назад +2

      @@ibtisamsiad1927 Sorry for the delay. Yes, I've seen exercises help resting oral postural in many, many cases. It's always worth starting with exercises before trying something more invasive. It may be worth trying the cotton roll hold and massaging out the mentalis muscle with the cotton rolls in. This way you are putting the muscle in a lengthened state and then giving it sensory input to relax. Just be consistent with it for at least 2 weeks, doing it 2-3x per day to see if it helps decrease dimpling.

    Hi Asley, I just finished Invisalign treatment. These exercises won't cause the teeth to shift, will they?

    • @allsleepashley
      @allsleepashley  2 года назад

      It's difficult for me to answer that without knowing the starting position of your teeth and lips. In theory, these should help keep your teeth in the new position if you had difficulty sealing your lips before having Invisalign.

    • @allsleepashley
      @allsleepashley  3 года назад +2

      Hi Jab, I have gotten good results with this exercise to improve the ability to comfortably close the lips in adults. You may see mentalis working at first when you practice this, but should dissipate over time (depending on the circumstance) as the lips can more easily reach each other.

      @@avgdude1290 I cannot tell you if it actually lengthens the tissue of the philtrum, as this is not something I can measure clinically. I have seen this exercise, along with the manual lip stretch, create a new resting position of the lips in which the philtrum and the entire upper lip appear longer.

      @@avgdude1290 Thanks for sending. In this study they are measuring the visual changes of the philtrum of the resting lip. If that's what you are looking for, then great :). I can say that I see this visual change clinically, as well.

      You can disable your mentalis muscle with Dysport (or Botox). Find a specialist in your town. When I first had it, I felt like I was working out my face in a gym. The rest of the muscles were super weak.
