Your little peak behind the curtain was interesting to listen to! As a consumer though, the idea of receiving 5 emails after an action seems a little much lol. That entirely depends on how you space them out, but receiving 5 emails from the same business within the span of a few days will only make me unsubscribe. I think that's definitely something that is different for each person and business though! Its very interesting to think about

I loved your note about designing patterns. I have definitely been burned from buying a poorly written pattern from a new designer, so now I've resolved to learn more about designing (even though I don't ever want to put out a pattern myself) so that I can better know what to look for and how to tell if a pattern will meet my needs and expectations. It's frustrating that some people will offer patterns for sale without bothering to know the industry best practices. I'm glad you're planning something to start to tackle this issue!

I am very proud of you for putting yourself out there in face to face conversation!! It's exhausting, but so rewarding. I also appreciate you sharing these trade shows and gatherings. I agree with in regard to buyers being hesitant with buying patterns, I’ve been stung in the past and it’s hard to commit to buying from a creator I’m unfamiliar with now! I would say I’m an advanced beginner, but still learning the ropes with following patterns and there have been times where it feels like information/steps are missing from the end of a row in some patterns and I get confused with what I’m supposed to do.

BUT curious to know how long is it suppose to take to say make a crochet sweater? or baby blanket bc it takes me FOREVER. Toni - My hubby walked into the room and asked “Is that your TY yarny person? (he’s so adorable). And I said “Yup”. She’s like me, loves to roam and no have to worry about her hubby being bored. And mine said “You know ai always find something to do”. I said “I’d be fine until I got back to the room at night.”. I am so weird about that, I miss my honey and turtle too much. The reason for this note is that EXACTLY 1.2 secs after I said that, YOU came and said “I’m going home y’all, I miss my……”. It was at that moment I knew I had to write this. We love our yarn, our patterns, and our craft, HOWEVER, folks who are easily ‘over-peopled’, miss our family and home base far, far, more. Hello, today I tried tunisian crochet for the first time. I went to a local fiber festival 2 weeks ago and picked up some beautiful wool in a mix of deep blue and orange, called midnight pumpkin. i have crocheted for years, and bought tunisian needles years ago, and finally, after watching all your videos on tunisian, jumped in with my precious wool. The hat turned out amazing! Thank you for all you do and for being a great teacher. I have been a fiber artist for many years and, in one afternoon, became obsessed with tunisian. I am used to working with size 10 thread, sz 1.5mm hook, and the 6,5mm hook seemed so big. But, what a joy. Thanks again and keep up the great work!

Most of the time companies that do that are sending out info that is generally already on their website or socials and so over a short period of time I usually will end up deleting emails without even opening them. After a while I usually will unsubscribe from the company.

Oh yess! It would be so great if there were easy access style guides for writing patterns!! I would compare it it there being APA, ALA etc. guides for doing citations and writing research papers.
This year I decided to make a Temperature/Weather Blanket for the Winter 2022 Season with the High & Low Daily Temp plus the type(s) and amounts of precipitation as a Queen sized afghan. I've never done anything like this ever. I typically find a premade pattern and customize the color(s) or sizes. This was a whole big thing and I had to figure out everything from the stitch counts to the stitches I would use and the colors. There were a bunch of swatches, tons of measuring and math and a whole lot of frogging. But, I decided at the start to keep a journal of everything as I went along - especially what didn't work and why.
When I finally settled on a stitch though, it took several writes and rewrites to get a working pattern to use myself to make it. I realized just how much work it would be to write patterns on the regular. I have SO much more respect for pattern writers now!! But, I could not find resources when I was working on it to guide me on how to write it up. I played it all by ear. Just the simple advice you gave here would've saved me time and do much frustration. Thank you for all you do!! You have inspired me so much this year to stay involved with my crocheting and to try new things. You rock 🎉🎉🎉

Hey, whenever you can't find a fiber friend to go with you, I will gladly step in for them! Just throwin' that out there for you to think about. 😂😂😂 I am with you, I would have to have a friend with me. My social anxiety would probably have me frozen in my hotel room. Sad to admit that at almost 50, I can't go into places I really want to go into without the fear of a panic attack. 99% of my social anxiety is brought on by chronic pain. It doesn't help being 5' tall either, people constantly bumping into me, or brushing against me or stepping on my feet. All of those motions, especially the light, brushing touch, will hurt more because it sets off my nerves like crazy and, well, my nerves are basically the issue here, the over react to every sensation when it comes to touch from my neck down. Anyway, in situations like that, I would have been holding my body so tensely and working all of my muscles on overtime that by the time it was time to take a break, I would be 💩 the next day. It would send my body into a flare up more than likely. And I just never know how long it will last. That is why I like to go with other people, I let them run interference for me. Lol I can relax more though, anyone who I hang with knows about my health, they put up with it, because I have the best parking! 🤣🤣🤣 Just a joke, I swear. 🕊️❤️🕯️

Toni I never would have guessed you were an introvert. Me too 😮. That’s probably why I can get lost in the craft. Quick question to you… the black cardi that you were wearing on day 1, is that your French Press Cardi? If not, do you mind sharing the correct pattern. I likey 😊

I'm catching up with your video. Oh it's really helping me get out of my introvert isolation. You're not alone!! So glad it paid off so well for you. I hope you could rest well overnight. I wish I had more yarn fairs around here! I loved your bedtime routine, it was so much fun ^_^ Sending love from the UK

The Japanese have standardized pattern writing. All symbols are standard. The do use American terminology for crochet, most likely due to the post WWII influences by the American military.

Mikey, we all are here, and you have purpose ... the trolls are awful..but you are so talented and you have taught me so much while I have been housebound with long covid. I couldnt have got through this without you. The depression meds take some time to start working. Please be kind to yourself. Love from New Zealand!

I'm sorry you hate Chicago. I'm from Chicago and I can tell you, it's on hard airport and not the city. oh are is not too kind to certain of us. That's why I go through Midway Airport. None the less, I am happy you enjoyed your conference. Thanks for sharing.

This looks like such an amazing experience, thankyou so much for sharing it with us! I'm also glad that you left early to take care of your own wellbeing rather than due to the quality of the trade show (as I was dreading fom the title ;w;). It's really interesting getting your insight on the business side of fiber arts and sharing not only your own story but showcasing other artists so generously too, you're always a star! Much love

Being an introvert myself I understand everything you went thru. Push past some of your boundaries and knew when to call it quits. She happy you enjoyed yourself and learned so much. ❤

Ohhhh...there is nothing more frustrating than using a pattern that hasn't been "vetted" or is a victim of poor technical writing. BTW, you are SO adorable!

Boy oh boy! Lots of thoughts. You make me want to go to a convention for artists and makers now - maybe Maker Faire, some day? I am an artist of many crafts, but maybe someday I'll make it to H+H too.

I highly recommend attending these large conventions because of the learning experience and huge growth that occurs. For yrs I took teachers to national conventions. They were floored at how much they learned. Let’s face it, we all get into a routine and make do with what we have in our environments. It stagnates us, but we don’t notice until something like this occurs. Conventions are a sensory, brain, and complete body overload, but so worth the experience.
