- A cab ride aboard an 09 type Plasser & Theurer tamper from Haywards Heath Up Siding to Redhill via Three Bridges and Gatwick Airport.
Apologies for the somewhat grey overcast weather - can't be helped!
A pleasant ride this day. Reminds me when I traveled to the UK. A nice reoccurrence of the past! Cheers mates! 😊
Earlswood Station is mistakenly named as Merstham on this cab ride video.
Just to let you know.
Brilliant in every other way though.
Yes, apologies. I sorted the video in a hurry, as I literally only recorded it the same day
It did throw me just for a minute - as to how we managed to get north of Redhill.
Oooh a Christmas gift! Merry Christmas, thanks for the upload! 🎄
Cheers for the great cab ride. Look forward to more 🚂🚃🚃🚃
Always more to come 😁
Great video emmo, really nice journey and imfomation the river ouse viaduct is an amazing piece of engineering and beautiful👌👍😃
Absolutely, if people haven’t seen it, I suggest Googling it. It’s stunning, especially underneath
Thanks for the video and Merry Christmas
Thanks for the video. Hopefully we will watch next journey from Redhill to London in coming video.
The next part of the journey was towards Tonbridge, which I’ve already uploaded
Great video - you have labelled Earlswood as Merstham
You’re quite right - that’s what comes of sorting a video in a hurry! Apologies
Thanks for the video Emmo! I live locally to this route so know it well. Merry christmas :) 🎄
Thanks for another enjoyable ride in third rail territory, and Merry Christmas!
Standard excellence and very enjoyable. The melancholy cloud cover does no harm at all
Thank you for your kind comments. Can’t do much about the weather, at least it was dry!
The station at 29:05 appears to be Earlswood, not Merstham
Yes, I did it in a hurry. Apologies
Excellent video I really enjoyed it and merry Christmas
Thank you great 👍 ride happy Christmas from
Paul
Thanks for the video. I was not expecting a platform Zero!
There’s a fair few around the network. Geoff Marshall did a tour of them all, if you look at his videos
🌲🌲🌲Merry Christmas 🌲🌲🌲
🚶🚂👍✋Extra Good job 👌
Wow, Great view, I love to see new places 👍✌️
Great movie 👍 Bravo 👋
And I have a new movie from a walk around the city 😊
Yours sincerely, DJ Janusz from Warsaw Poland ✌️ 🇵🇱✋🌲
Now - to be able to travel from Haywards Heath to Redhill would be mightily useful.Every time, I have to change at Gatwick.
😬🙈
Don’t Thameslink make that connection? Or do all the Brighton trains take the quarry lines?
@@emmo999 sadly, everything from Brighton bypasses Redhill. 🙈😵💫
When you drop off your vehicle in so many disparate locations, then how do you get home to your real bed each night ? Or do you sleep in your vehicle or crew berthing ? I am a tractor-trailer (lorry/HGV) driver, and I sleep in the bunk behind my driving cab ; it is very convenient to get to work, as 'work' is 5 feet in front of my bed ! It's a tough life from most people's estimates though, as I currently plan to get into my own 'real' bed for 2 nights every 2 weeks. I can't do this forever, I suppose, as this body is 65 years old now; I should be retired already ! Aarre Peltomaa of Mississauga, Ontario
It’s always back at home, or in a (basic!) hotel if we’re working too far from home
The station before Redhill is not Merstham it’s Earlswood
What train do you operate
I only operate tampers, although that will likely alter shortly for a little more variety
Are there many "Platform 0 " in UK? Asking from Australia.
In the UK, there are 8 stations which have a platform 0. They are:
Cardiff Central,
Doncaster,
Edinburgh Haymarket,
Gravesend,
Leeds,
London King's Cross,
Rainham,
Redhill, and
Stockport
About 10. Visit Geoff Marshall's channel and search for the video where he visits all of them.
Nope, they’re very rare and usually come about because a new platform has been built next to platform 1, so labelling it as 0̷ is more logical.
Wikipedia lists 9 UK stations with platform 0s and a few in other countries too.
Still in the machine with a flat wheel, then! Platform Zero - almost as daft as platform 9 3/4, or whatever it was in that kids tale!
There’s a fair few 0 around. It saves renumbering every platform, which is much easier to add rather than amend all the signalling system
