I was a resident of College Point for a few years until 1984, but I have friends who have lived there for a long time. I came upon this video by accident, and I'm glad I did. God bless your grandfather for preserving the film so well, it's held up lots better than some VHS tapes that are many years newer. I hope you have transferred it to DVD.
Great film of a bygone era. Interesting and insightful especially seeing that swastika logo on the back of that bus. To bad there wasn't more footage of the route taken from College Point to just inside the Nassau Co. border since at that time there were no parkways or expressways. Beautiful transfer BTW.
@bregman1155 I want Albany to record the Harris 5th and 7th symphonies using the same artists as the above. The only available modern recordings of the 7th are terrible!
Seems as though the Rialto Touring Bus company out of NYC used a swastika in their signage, but as the bus was from the 20s, likely it was merely a logo.
You can thank my grandfather, bless his soul, who stored this film in a cool, dry place for many decades.
Whoever saved this video did a great job of preserving it all these years.

People treated each other with more dignity and love than today. What different times. A more innocent time.
Yeah, tell that to a black man who lived in the 1930s in America.
So familiar, yet at the same time so different...
Wow, that was enjoyable to watch, great job
very interesting, enjoyed watching it. I had hoped to see more landscape type scenes of belmont lake.

Symphony No. 8, and Memories of a Child's Sunday, by the American composer Roy Harris.
love this
Jane Austen? What are you doing here on Long Island, shouldn't you be in Bath or Hampshire back in England?

1:56, Swastika...the German-Americans then were proud of that association then...
