Born in '52. All my buddies Dads fought somewhere in WWII. One kid I knew said his Dad was in Iwo Jima. Mine was in Guadalcanal. Thanks to all the Vets in these pictures.
I was a kid about when these were shot and these scenes could be anyplace USA. The fashions, cars, railroad pics all look familiar. They remind me of what we all were at one long ago time. Thanx for posting!
@@BrodyJoeandBriars It WAS a better time, I don't care what young people (who have never experienced those days) say, the 1950s & '60s were outstanding in so many ways compared to today! It isn't even a debate! It was indeed a wonderful miraculous time to be a kid! It's been good to be a Boomer! Now, let's sing the Armour Hot Dog Jingle! "What kinds of kids eat Armour Hot Dogs; Fat kids, skinny kids, kids who climb on rocks, tough kids sissy kids, even kids with chicken pox love hot dogs ..."
During the parade it showed a big yellow & red sign in the background that said "Erickson", which was my stepfather's name and he was from Minnesota, moved to California where he met my mother. His brother and family always lived in Minnesota and I assume his grown kids still do, if they are still alive. I never kept in touch with any of them. They were a lot older than I was and I'm pretty old now. There is probably no connection to my stepfather's family, but you never know, I didn't know much about them. It was just so strange to suddenly see that name in big bold letters.
Beautiful! A lot of the younger children are probably still alive...either in their mid to late 70s or early 80s in age. For those who have passed away, some of these beautiful memories might have been some of their last thoughts before passing. God bless their souls. Definately recognize the California movies of Shasta, L.A./ Hollywood and Beach areas, Los Angeles suburb homes, Los Angeles Colisium shots, San Francisco Fisherman's Warf area and Alcatraz. Beautiful memories of another lifetime ago.
Weren’t these people born from the result of rape or incest? People didn’t have sex back then. They didn’t have sex after they married so the young man had to go pay for it.
This is AWESOME; What a treasure! This film was taken in the ancient past when I was a young fella, heepum many moons ago. For some reason, watching these old 8mm movies puts a smile on my goofy face and calms my grumpy old butt down. Thank you for sharing this, you are a wonderful person! (Not as wonderful as me, but wonderful nonetheless) 😉 EDIT: Hey, at 6:37, is that Joltin' Joe The Yankee Clipper DiMaggio's restaurant?
The "Happy Go Lively" music at the very beginning always make me think of someone skipping down the sidewalk. All of the music was perfect for this old home movie.
Hey, that's me! Just kidding, but it sure looks familiar. 3:52 We had that *_exact_* green and yellow swingset and red slide. I suspect it came from Sears.
Wow! The pride they took in their appearances. The ladies hairstyles were perfect, the gentleman’s suits and delightful yellow socks and brown shoes. And of course the mandatory cigarettes. These people were really enjoying life. Kind of reminds me of some scenes from the Rock Hudson/Jane Wyman movie All That Heaven Allows which was filmed around this era. Fantastic. Made me feel like I was there and that somehow I’d known these people.
Born in 48, this was a much better time to live in, better than today. We had family values, a much stronger Nation, not the Third World Nation we are heading for. Thank God I'm old, would hate to be a kid today!
I was born in 1954 I only wish I spent my adult life in the '50s mush slower life pace I know about the nuclear threat and bomb shelters I get that but these home made movies reveal the kind of simple life the '50s it was right after WWII it must have been wonderful everyone well dressed no graffiti at all just amazing. and please don't say Mystery Home movies just wonderful home videos!
Actually, Itasca County Minnesota. Note the Minnesota license plates and the reference on a parade car to 4th of July celebration in Coleraine, which is in Itasca County, Minnesota.
@@timinbovey You are right about that. There was a flatbed in the parade that said "Itasca's Future?" on the side, which I guess must have been cows, since there were cows on it.
Judging by the cars it's no later than 1953. I don't see '55 models yet so..... Also when they are in Los Angeles the movie theater marquee announces Cinemascope which in fact debuted in 1953. And seeing as though it's brand new of course they're going to film it.
This had to be from 1955. The movie playing at the theater was "A Man Called Peter" which came out in 1955. Maybe you didn't see any 1955 cars because nobody had bought them yet. Not everyone runs out and buys the newest cars as soon as they come out. Especially if you have a car that's only two years old. Also, there were boys in the parade with Davy Crockett coonskin caps and a Davy Crockett sign on the side of a tent that looked like it had a picture of the actor who played Davy Crockett on a TV show in the 1950s, which first aired in December of 1954 and continued through 1955. This Fourth of July parade had to be in 1955, after Davy Crockett had become popular with kids.
This family seems to be very happy.....the women, too. I lived during the 60s, just after this decade, and things were very different. Better, i think. At least where i was, men and women appreciated each other and worked together and didn't devalue the other's work. People learned how to do things, too, which of practical help in life.

Things were FAR from perfect in the 50's. Alcoholism, early mortality, legally segregated society, mandatory military service, unsafe cars, polio, etc, etc, etc. But hey these old grainy movies sure are pretty.

That's because women were brainwashed into thinking that all they could be and had to be was a housewife & mother.
