If you are attempting to perform this repair, make sure to hit the eject button on the cassette deck to properly release the deck assembly from the chassis. In addition, buy the proper belt set for best results, they are still available!
Also, this CFD-510 does NOT actually belong to James Rolf but it is identical to the prop he uses on the nerd videos further proving its place as a generational icon.
any comments, questions or concerns I will gladly answer In the comment section.
Thank you and enjoy!

No, this was MY boombox as a teen! :D
🤣🤣 you're right! My bad!
Looks alright!
Thank you bro!!!
Love it!!
Me too!!! Lol
I have cfd 775 the most complicated designed. Double side Cassette playback deck. The main problem is it keeps hammering headline repeatedly. 😂
Well done!!
Thank you!!!

That's awesome!👍
Thanks 👍
i have the exact same boombox and all of my belts were fine but the cog is poop i wish you showed how that worked because this is confusing the crap out of me
So that cog just pops off (be careful) they refer to it as the pulley. I found a pulley replacement set online and plan on doing a part 2 on fixing that. Sorry for not going into greater detail on that.
Have the older version, the CFD-440, basically identical but with different tweeters in the speakers. 26:30 The little cog wheel needs an idler tire with a flat outer surface, a rounded one won't work, it's missing from all belt kits I've seen.
yeah, I couldn't find one online either. I ended up finding one at the hardware store. It was in an assorted set of o-rings.
Have either of you found the idler tire? I located one in Germany, but they don't ship to the states.
@@cokesucks Yes, part number ST.525, bought it from eBay, the guy lists it as being compatible with other model numbers but it works with the CFD-440 too.
Thank you!!!
@@rwdplz1 You're the man. Thanks!
Hi! I am finally attempting this repair, believe it or not. Could you please show me a link to the previous video that you refer to in this video, showing the disassembly? I can't seem to find it.
I am trying to get the two pieces of the case apart, but the top corner is stuck. Thanks!
UPDATE got it open, attempting the belt repair.
Good luck, and let us know if you have any questions!👍
@@Blowncapacitor84 well, as a matter of fact... everything went well, I think, except it eats tapes when I try to play a cassette. There was a little 1cm o-ring that looks like it broke and fell out, I think you mention something about that... would that be why?
@bradenrz I think so. That's a cog wheel that I believe drives the take-up spool. I'll go back and look at the footage to make sure but I remember getting that o ring from the hardware store. Try searching ebay, they usually have the kits.
@@Blowncapacitor84 you wouldn't happen to remember the size and dimensions of that o ring, would you? I threw the broken one in the garbage like a moron.
what size belts did you end up using for the CFD-510?
The belts I used were from an assortment. I had to order the proper belts as well as a new pulley. I never actually measured them but You can get everything at a place called Encompass Parts.
I am looking to replace the connectors for the speakers on my Dad’s 510 but have no idea where to look to replace them. Someone cut them off
Oh man, that sucks! You may have to trace them back from the head unit, I believe they run through the little rubber tunnel thingie
@@Blowncapacitor84 I was afraid of that. I will see what he wants to do. I would love to get it working again for him.
@@Blowncapacitor84 Thanks for the help
