hi Kyong Lee, question about using the Orly rubberized basecoat over nails that have already have a fully dried base of regular polish on them; would I let the Orly basecoat fully dry or is supposed to be wet or semi dry on my nails before applying the stamped image? thank you from monica

I have tried to stamp once I have stamping gels and I have different stampers and I have only tried it on one plate and I couldn't even get a tiny bit of the picture to the stamper 😞
I wanted you to know that several months ago I watched one of your videos on tips on stamping. I've been painting my nails for over 20 years and stamping for 1.5 years. With your tutorial and explanation I "got" it. I have watched and tried to follow other well known nail artist with no luck. I use to post my finished stamped nails on Instagram but stopped. I was no where near the quality you and the rest of the bloggers. I've deleted all my nail pics. But I have gotten a lot better in the few months using your tips.
Love the way you explained and demonstrated. Great video as usual ! What would we stampers do without you . Although I'm not new to stamping I still love to watch ! Thank You !!
I have a stamper and it’s not picking up anything is that because I use water to clean it off? what do you use to clean off the the stamper and the nail plate?
Some work, like very opaque one coat creme formulas, metallics, some holos, but it's very much trial and error. If you're just starting out, I would recommend buying at least a black and a white in stamping polish and getting comfortable with stamping. Then you can test your polishes for stampability.
So much to learn, but I think I've got it! Thank you for this great video. I have learned so very much from watching this. I'm still kind of new to the whole stamping nail art. Wish me luck! 😉 Btw...I'm a new subscriber too!

Ok so a while ago I bought a stamped the Pueen brand I got and o had my plates to I put the plolish down scraped it like you said and rolled the stamper over it and it won’t pick up? How can I fix this I’ve primed and cleaned my Stamper and it still won’t pick up?
I'm going to try this tomorrow. I just tried using my maniology stamping kit yesterday and couldn't get anything to stick to the stamper. I hope using these techniques helps!
Helpful video! I'm having horrible issues, I've bought two stamping kits and the stampers do not work! I have cleaned them before use with warm water but still nothing! I must be missing, is it maybe the nail polish brand?
With clear stampers, I find pressing straight down works best as long as you don't have really curvy nails and your stamper is squishy enough. If you have really curvy nails and/or a really firm stamper, rolling may work better for you.
If you use a Quick Dry topcoat and let dry before stamping, you can usually remove with tape if stamping is bad. If you didn't use a QDTC, you can try an acetone swipe. Wet a lint free wipe with acetone (be careful of other nails) and do a quick light swipe over nail to remove stamping. You may need a light coat of base color if you remove too much.
@@KyongLee thank you so much just watching more of your videos you make thr pick up and transfer look effortless tfs your knowledge with us and time. Are you using stamping polish? Regular gel polish doesn't work, and some polishes sold as stamping polish give me fits because they are too thin and runny.
It could be that you're not using enough polish, you're not scraping evenly, you're scraping too hard, or it could be your pickup method. Are you pushing straight down with stamper or rolling across image? Try both to see which works better for you. Also, fine lines are just harder to pick up. Some lines may not be etched well enough.
That is really helpful. I started with Konad hard stampers that you smash down and have had a lot of trouble picking up with some of my clear stampers. I will roll from now on. That being said, can you do a tutorial on how exactly to do the coloring in method of stamping?
Hey guys I have a problem..I just baught a stamper today but it ddoesn't work...Im a beginner and I don't know what to do..Ive also washed in warm water and dish washing liquid..still doesn't work..
Thank you for a great video tutorial. I’m having trouble with my polish picking up at all. Could it be the polish? I have a clear stamper head that’s squishy, but it won’t pick up the image. I’m not scraping hard or over scraping my plate. The only polish that picks up is the excess that’s left on the surface around the area of the image, so the blobby edges. That’s all. I started to think that maybe it was the polish and tried some dark blue “ice” brand polish. Though not very pigmented and it came across more like a water color without defined edges, the image did pick up. Is there a way to tell if the polish is bad?
It could be that the polish is drying before you pick up. Try bring super fast. Scrape only once, really lightly and try picking up right away. Have the stamper in your other hand ready to go. Some polishes dry quicker than others, especially in the heat.
I'm having issues with my clear stampers where the image is fine when I pick up, and then within a split second, the polish/image on the stamper shrivels up and loses its shape. ☹ Any advice?
Make sure you are not running a fan or AC blowing nearby. Even being near a window can make a difference. Possibly it's the kind of polish you're using. It may just be too quick drying. Try using more polish and scraping more lightly. If nothing helps you just have to be lightning quick when stamping and hope for the best. I always have more trouble stamping during the hot summer days than any other time.
@@KyongLee thank you so much for your response! After I saw it, I purchased different stamping polishes (that just came in today) and it solved the problem! I'm so excited to finally use my plates!!
I'm new to stamping and this helped me a lot thank you so much. I think my problem is I'm scraping to hard AND smashing the stamper done to hard. Ill try a lighter touch and see how that goes. Question: how imperative is it to use "stamping polish", I'm having a hard time finding single bottles and not sets
Most one coat cremes will stamp well. Smooth chrome metallics will too. Over a pale color base almost any color will be fine. The question is how they will look over dark colors. Good stamping polishes are formulated to show up well on darker colors. But for practice, regular polish is fine because you're just trying to figure out the correct pressure and timing. Once you can pick up a good image on the stamper consistently, then you can think about color payoff.
@@KyongLee thanks so much. That helps a lot. I was wondering if that was why I was getting splotchy pickup, because I was using regular polish. I think I'm just Hulking it LOL
Ugh I too have been having issues stamping ... could it be too that you have to use the stamper and the same paint from the same kit Or does it matter? I have like 3 different types of stamper and paint
No, you can use any stamper with any stamping polish. Try the different techniques I mention, especially lightly rolling across the image to pick up. Scrape only once lightly and pick jk right away. You'll get it. It just takes a little practice and experimentation.
I have Born Pretty jelly stamper and the same problem, I will try to pick up more gently, but I'm loosing hope. I'm afraid only buffing the head of stamper would help :(
It's best to clean between every nail to ensure a clean pickup. Some people say that you can go 2-3 stamps before cleaning the plate but that's never worked for me.
I brought new stamping kit few days ago and nail polish is not sticking to stamper i washed with soap water then also its not working . Do u knw y ??! If u knw pls let me knw
You don't have to use stamping polish as most one coat cremes and chrome finishes will stamp pretty well, especially over lighter colors. However, you may not get the color payoff you want over darker colors using regular polishes. Stamping polishes are designed to be more opaque over any color. For practice though, to get the timing and pressure down, practice with any cheap polish on white paper.
There are regular polishes that work but it's very much trial and error. One coat cremes, chromes and linear holos will usually work. However, if you are just starting out, I would recommend using stamping polish to eliminate one of the variables.
Hello again. So I have pueen stamps and I just bought pueen nail stamping polish. Now my stamper isn't picking up the stamp. the stamper I'm using is Clear jelly soft silicone. is it practice now or can it be that the stamper is a bad one?
The product picks up the image perfect , when I stamp it onto a page to test it does it perfect but when I put it on my nail the gel polish is blurry and not as dark 😭
What do you use to clean the stamper after you’re done using it? And also I have the Uber Chic stamper and haven’t done anything to prime it, no wonder the image wasn’t picking up
Great video! I’m just getting into stamping and frustrated because I can pick up images very well with black and white stamping polish but for some reason the colors like silver or other stamping colors I can’t. I just got the polish from amazon and it’s from Born Pretty. Don’t know if it’s just bad polish or if I’m doing something wrong. Thank you for this video. It’s very helpful. 😊
I've found that metallic polishes are sometimes too thick to pick up the fine lines so a drop or two of the CORRECT type of thinners in the bottle, mixed well, makes for a perfect pickup. I bought mine on ebay.
Great job ma please I wish to start up a nail salon but getting the required tools for that has been a problem for me I live in Nigeria can you please help me get the complete kit please? Thanks
Most regular polish one coat cremes and metallics will stamp, especially over light colors. They may not be very opaque over dark colors though. Shimmers and glitters usually won't stamp although some shimmers will stamp great over black.
I use the lint roller for cleaning it and just wash with soap and water to prime I also find the white steamer that is firmer to pick up smaller pictures then the clear but I’m I love with this one 😊😊😊

What do you have over your cotton round (that square piece)? I'm assuming that helps not get cotton lint stuck to the plate?
It's a lint free wipe. It does help with the more roughly etched plates.
Excellent video. Very informative. Thanks for the tips.
HELPPPPP what to do if you make an error and it smudges or not total transfer and you dont want to spoil your manicure underneath?
If you use a Quick Dry topcoat and let dry before stamping, you can usually remove with tape if stamping is bad. If you didn't use a QDTC, you can try an acetone swipe. Wet a lint free wipe with acetone (be careful of other nails) and do a quick light swipe over nail to remove stamping. You may need a light coat of base color if you remove too much.

If you want to use the same pattern for all your nails, do you have to clean the plate in between every nail?
It's best to clean between every nail to ensure a clean pickup. Some people say that you can go 2-3 stamps before cleaning the plate but that's never worked for me.
I do every time just because the polish is so thin on the stamping plate it’s dry by the time I get to it
I brought new stamping kit few days ago and nail polish is not sticking to stamper i washed with soap water then also its not working . Do u knw y ??! If u knw pls let me knw
Which kit? Did you remove the film from the stamping plates?
@@KyongLee yes i removed
I brought from Amazon
Which kit?

Hello,
If you choose to add base coat prior to stamping, do you have to cure base coat first?
Now i know what im doing wrong awesome video thank you i learned alot watching :)
Do you have to have stamping polish? Whats the difference between regular & stamping polishes? Thank you, Loved your tutorial on this.
@@KyongLee awesome thank you so very much.
Can I use gel polish to stamp?
Only specially made stamping gel polish will work. Regular gel polish won't.
Thank you Kyong. This was very helpful.
Hum stamping ke liye local nail paint bhi use kar sakte hain ❓❓
haan ya vahee kaam karata hai !
can i use hand sanitizers to clean the plates? hv too many lying around hahaa
Do you have to use stamping polish? Or may you your regular nail polish?
There are regular polishes that work but it's very much trial and error. One coat cremes, chromes and linear holos will usually work. However, if you are just starting out, I would recommend using stamping polish to eliminate one of the variables.
ok Thank you.
Hello again. So I have pueen stamps and I just bought pueen nail stamping polish. Now my stamper isn't picking up the stamp. the stamper I'm using is Clear jelly soft silicone. is it practice now or can it be that the stamper is a bad one?
Can a gel top coat be used over a stamp?
Yes, absolutely!
Thank you so much, this was very helpful. ♥️👍
Can gel polish be used?
For stamping? There are special gel polishes I believe for that. You can of course use gel as the base and use regular stamping polish on top.
@@KyongLee thank you!
can i use regular polish to stamp or do i need stamping polish ?
josee cajelais stamping polish is usually thicker than regular polish, so when you use regular polish it might look a little thin or not as opaque
@@michylol thanks for the answer
Awesome video😍 Thank you very much for shearing this💖
Doesn't using pure acetone on the plate ruin the jelly head of the stamper ?
No, the acetone has evaporated by the time the stamper makes contact.
@@KyongLee thank you!
The product picks up the image perfect , when I stamp it onto a page to test it does it perfect but when I put it on my nail the gel polish is blurry and not as dark 😭
Yeah, right after I sent the comment, I watched the next video and that had the information I needed.
What do you use to clean the stamper after you’re done using it? And also I have the Uber Chic stamper and haven’t done anything to prime it, no wonder the image wasn’t picking up
I use a lint roller to clean the stamper. Some stampers don't need priming but if it isn't picking up, definitely try priming.
lol, "Hulk Smash", thanks for the tips...♡
great tips ^_^ i guess i've been "hulk smashing" this whole time XD
Nice job on this vid! So helpful!
Metallics like silver tend to be faster drying so you need to be extra quick on pick up.
Kyong Lee thank you 😊
I've found that metallic polishes are sometimes too thick to pick up the fine lines so a drop or two of the CORRECT type of thinners in the bottle, mixed well, makes for a perfect pickup. I bought mine on ebay.
margaret wood good to know. I will give that a go. 😊. Thank you
Great job ma please I wish to start up a nail salon but getting the required tools for that has been a problem for me I live in Nigeria can you please help me get the complete kit please? Thanks

Can you use any polish for the stamping?
Most regular polish one coat cremes and metallics will stamp, especially over light colors. They may not be very opaque over dark colors though. Shimmers and glitters usually won't stamp although some shimmers will stamp great over black.
Thank you for answering this question
I use the lint roller for cleaning it and just wash with soap and water to prime I also find the white steamer that is firmer to pick up smaller pictures then the clear but I’m I love with this one 😊😊😊
