Its probably because Gen 4's engine is really slow. Just watch a video of a Level 100 Blissey fainting from Close Combat.

Another thing I find odd is that the shiny Magikarps were level 42, 43 and 44!

Well the odds of finding a magikarp in the level 40-70 range are 59.31%. As for specifically in the forties... I'm too lazy to calculate.
I remember finding the lvl 99 Magikarp as a kid and got so excited to throw a rare candy and have a lvl 100 Gyarados 😂
I'm not sure if this was in sun and moon but it in sword and shield onwards that you can still give a level 100 Pokemon a Rare Candy if it triggers evolution

@@ApplesWasTaken that's good although I don't think I'm going to continue forward with pokemon. I will limit myself to ultramoon and below Im very disappointed, and although I have shield and violet I don't think I will buy pokemon anymore
@@luisbetancourt-dp7hhI don't blame you. It's been downhill since after Gen V and then the series fell off of a cliff with Gen 8. Gen 9 is pretty bad too besides the Pokemon designs.
Trying to get a Shiny of this Level 1 or Level 100 is probably the goldmine of Shiny Hunting, even more than trying to get a Shiny Feebas
Shiny Feebas actually isn't that hard. Once you find a Feebas Tile, which may take a little bit, it's just like a regular full odds hunt.

You can get shiny feebas rather easy with fish chaining in oras

@@The-Gentleman-Ender Me. I'm gonna hunt it once I graduate. The only thing i'm missing right now is a capture card for my DS, so it's either Recording on my phone or The first hunt would be me hunting down a capture card to then modify my DS
There's also the level 100 Regigigas in the Crown Tundra in Sword and Shield, so Magikarp and Gyarados aren't the only level 100 Pokémon that can be found.
Magikarp is better
the unrivaled event mons in scarlet and violet are also level 100 which sort of counts
Moral of the story: If you want a shiny, hunt for something rarer
This was one of my favorite post-game things I did in Platinum. The other of course being getting all the Villa furniture.

This gen was also the first one that allowed you to properly EV train Pokemon that were at level 100 instead of being restricted to vitamins only. Now you can make your Magikarp as powerful as can be!

Evie, you should stream your first time playing Platinum! Sure, you already know all the differences it has compared to the original DP, but the experience of actually having a good Pokédex and more options for a team feels so good! I played it for the first time last year, and it was the best Pokémon game I have played yet!
I've been recently playing Platinum for the first time after being a DP player as a kid. I've been constantly in awe at some of the new dialogue and adjustments to the story. It gives me such an appreciation for my starting region
Platinum is my favourite Pokemon game, except for the grinding you have to do before the Pokemon league
@@averagechannelname9969 man I’d love to play platinum again but my cartridge has gotten pretty much ruined over the years, I have tried to play it like 3 times in order to get the trade-up-from-gen-3 safari thing and all 3 times the save has been corrupted before I can finish.
At least I beat it and nuzlocked it before the cartridge died
Platinum is one of my favourite games ever!
I'd recommend getting the tools to put renegade platinum on a cartridge
7:40 After literal years and almost a decade, hunting in X/Y, any remote excitement for a shiny basculin is refreshing to see. Ive lost count how many shiny basculins Ive gotten going for a dratini (I finally gotten one after 8 years of initial hunt - on/off).
The fact that you caught it with a Critical Capture is great to see! Reminds me of my Shiny Ultra Moon Xurkitree.

I had no idea it was even possible until today that you could catch the best Pokemon ever in the wild at Lv.100.
I remember fishing for the magikarp in platinum after my first pull was level 92. I never actually knew if there was one I just assumed there had to be.
I never ended up getting it but that level 92 ended up being the first Pokémon I leveled to 100 in any game (I did evolve it)
Now you just have to get the Lv. 100 Magikarp shiny! ::::D

I actually have this lv100 magikarp from the Resort Area in Platinum! Had no idea how rare it was at the time, there was just an npc nearby that mentioned it so I wanted to catch it. It's now Hyper Trained, and currently in my Shield version waiting for transfer to Scarlet later next week.

Fun fact: In sun and moon you can catch a level nine Gyarados at the garden. I was surprised when I first caught one.

Those abilities don't work when fishing, so I don't think there actually was a better way to find it. Repels wouldn't work either, at least in gen 4.
@@darkriolu27 how do you know this, bulbapedia does not mention this and even then it only has a 50% chance to prock so maybe you were just unlucky.
@@simplecyan9541 It can take hundreds of encounters just to find a max level 15 Magikarp, even with Hustle at the front of your party. Bulbapedia also doesn't mention Repels not working when fishing, but that's true as well

Highest lvl pokemon I ever encountered in the wild was 245 via the Old Man Glitch. If the 2nd, 4th, or 6th characters in your custom name are ♀, then you have a 20% chance of encountering a 245 pokemon per each one you have. The other 2 pokemon on the encounter list will be 'M, which you never want. Highest lvl I've encountered without tailoring the name for the glitch was a 164 charmeleon when using my first name.
It's worth noting that 42 is the meaning of Life, the Universe and Everything, so a shiny lv 42 Magikarp is extra blessed good luck.
If you seek the definition of "determination" I'm sure a picture of Lucy will be right next to it. Congrats for this amazing feat. And it's amazing to see how many hidden mechanics these games have.

Ooohhh, I can relate to this challenge. For a playthrough of Ultra Moon I wanted to catch the Volcarona you can get below its normal evo level in Lush Jungle. It’s a 1% chance to find a Larvesta, and then after that, a 1% chance of the Volcarona being summoned via an SOS call. In other words, same odds as this Magikarp hunt. And just as the Level 100 Karp hunt can be stalled by not every cast getting a bite, my Volcarona hunt was stalled by not every SOS call summoning something, not to mention needing to KO the Larvestas that got summoned 99% of the time.
Takes a ton of patience to get through a hunt like this, but it’s super satisfying to complete it. Congrats on yours!
Watching this video as you get to the 790K mark! You are a great RUclipsr and I am excited to see you get to this point. I rewatched your videos on the history of shiny hunting and the Kalos games. It has given me a renewed interest in Kalos and trying the nuzlocke that I failed before.
I had a similar experience last year in Pokemon Gold. I wanted to get a Lucky Egg from a wild Chansey. It's not nearly as rare as the lv 100 Magikarp, around 1 in 2000 (according to Serebii). I didn't want to use a Repel Trick to force more Chansey encounters. Lo and behold, I found a shiny Noctowl before finding the Lucky Egg holding Chansey.
I actually caught the "Ruler of the pond" in platinum a while back! I kinda cheated with the pressure ability on my Absol XD. Caught mine in a master ball and named her Ruler. Great video!

It's 50x more likely in those games if you do it right with some glitches.

Fun Fact: The shiny charm in B2W2 actually doubles the chance of finding a shiny instead of tripling it like Gen 6 onward, so you are working with 1/4096 odds on Black 2

No you're not. It still gives 2 extra rolls, just like it does in every game. This means with charm it's 3/8192, or 1/2730.6
Unless I'm missing something I'm pretty sure that gen 5 has the 1/8192 base shiny odds

I actually caught it and when I was 9 years old and I deemed it worthless due to it being unable to evolve. Ended up having it deleted with a save file. I was looking for what was suppose to be the monster of the area and I caught a shiny magikarp thinking it was the monster afterwards based on the red gyarados that was supposed to be at Lake Verity. Not realizing I could never find the monster there. Still have that shiny magikarp I evolved to this day.
Ah the level 100 Magikarp, I tried to hunt for it a long while back but couldn’t find it (was before I was into finishing shiny Pokémon, also) Magikarp jump league staff would be flocking to these locations to get the best karp possible 😂
