Want to read with more speed?
In this video Jasper Geluk interviews Michel Wozniak (speed reading world champion speedreading). He will explain some of the most useful speed reading techniques that can help you increase the speed of your reading significantly.
Michel Wozniak is also a trainer in memory techniques, NLP and Mindmapping and now works closely with Tony Buzan to organise both the world memory championship and world speed reading championship.
Jasper Geluk is one of the youngest experts and international trainers of the Society of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP). He was trained by the co-founder of NLP, Richard Bandler, and also trained with other world class trainers such as Brian Tracy, Igor Ledochowski and Tony Robbins.
His focus is on the optimization of professional communication. He mostly works with companies as a consultant and trainer in NLP, Social Dynamics and Leadership Communication. Next to group trainings he does private leadership coaching where you learn to use your unconscious resources to accelerate your career.
The best advice is to start practising with these speed reading techniques because you will only get better with these techniques if you work on it. The speed reading techniques may seem simple but if you work on it you can increase your reading speed drastically. You can even read as fast as Michel is reading in his demonstration in this video.

Guys,... "I,m sorry..." I am the "slow reader type"... I won't speak for all "slow reader types" but for myself.
I had a class once with a "Really Speedy reader" and, I'm telling you, I wasn't slower that this guy.
You could ask him the page, the paragraph and he could tell you what was there and read for you by memory.
So, for my understanding, it isn't only speed reading, it is also "keeping in memory" what you saw.
So, talking about "memory", take as example a child at the elementary school, you certainly imagine that their memory skill is wider because of "less stress" that the average people.
Not having the "normal average people's skill out stress", their memories are all absorbed by what the see, read and experiment, depending of their "natural skill". And as you know, some people are more skilled than others.
I do agree that "skills can be developped". But there are limits to everyone as there are "less limits" to some that are just waiting to be developped.
Exercices make perfect?... I don't believe that everyone can "strech" those skills that much.
I believe that could "content themselves" with what they saw, but to understand technically and put in pratice right away?!... Hm,... I'm not sure.
Ask this guy to read "mecanic" or "Electric managing", make them understand their reading about those subjects (in high speed) and make them put in practice what they learned.... I'm poly sure, their are going to be back at their books. maybe little less that average, but surely; because "little doubts" or "stress" will be in their ways of "accepting or digesting" what they've been reading.
In Resume, reading a certain type of subject that you're use to read with improve you speed reading. But, there are limits depending of "Your Gift"; of you "natural instinct".
And this way, speed reading, won't take that place of a mecanic skilled technician. It might help you in your own skills a little. But retainning what you reading depend of you absorption capacity that depend on you "stress level" that depend of your age, etc.
For instance, take those people who got a celebral commotion, their "brain injury" will give them incapacities. Doctors will demand them to stop reading to much, having less TV and so on; because, stress (depending of you injuries or you "normal level of stress") will condition your "absorption" reading.
Personnaly, I wish but, without having that much hope, I keep reading "my speed"... Some will have that skill. But "I" don't believe I'll have it or have the use of it...
I am more in the "accepting" my level.
I am good in music, maths.. but "speeding stuff", what's the use when "there is conséquence in mistakes" because you've been to fast... Better absorbing with "the correct speed" than "too fast"...
    Take care.
P.S. this won't stop me to admire those who have that skill; but won't stress me either if I don't have that skills either...

It’s weird I know what he means because I read the same way. You’re skimming but not. It’s weird. Your skimming over certain nearby words because when pay attention to a key word you can still see all the words around the key word. So you’re skimming but still seeing all the words. It’s not like you’re missing information. When I started, I only looked at the white spaces between every word or two instead of looking at the words itself. That alone increased my speed a lot. Once you do that for about 20 minutes, your brain gets used to it and you will be able to see most of the sentence by only focusing on one word. Then you can just start skimming down the page.

TL;DR - You may not be able to speed read because of mental illnesses or disorders, AND THAT IS OKAY!!!! Keep working on it, it gets better, I promise! Cut a piece of paper so you can only read/see 2 lines of text at a time, REALLY helps with focus! Dictionary/Google nearby to look up words you don't know their meaning/pronunciation of.
I've always been a slow reader. I ALWAYS have to go back and re-read a paragraph or page. Between my dyslexia and ADHD, it was IMPOSSIBLE to read for me as a kid. I HATED it!! Medicated now, and I can ACTUALLY read and I ACTUALLY enjoy it!!! I can read 200 pages in one sitting! It's amazing! I even have a page reader to help me personally, page reader you ask? It's just a piece of paper cut out the middle so you can ONLY see 2 lines of text at a time. Can do this with any size piece of paper, but covering the entire page or at least 4" on top and bottom REALLY helps your eyes from jumping around and helps you maintain a good speed. Also works as your bookmark. Every book I've read I keep that page in it, so every book I see has a page sticking out of it on the shelf and it honestly makes me proud to see all the books I've read now. I also keep a dictionary up on my phone/tablet up so I can google words I'm unsure of their pronunciation or meaning, so I can look it up and go right back to reading.
Edit: another technique that worked for me when I started to get back into reading was, read a paragraph, and then re-read it right after, next one, then that one again, it helps it sink in better, thanks ADHD!

Also, overtaking and talking over the person who is sharing valuable knowledge is very rude and annoying to listeners who are interested in subject matter. The poor communication skills of host are most annoying like a yapping chihuahua dog wanting attention.

Yes! That's what I've discovered in listening to RUclips videos. It wasn't that I needed to listen to it over and over. It was that I needed to listen on high speed so that my mind didn't wander. I had a stroke in 2010 and after that I was a painfully slow reader. At first I couldn't even read subtitles on the TV fast enough so to increase my speed I started watching TV with subtitles to increase my reading speed. There is a deficit in my eyes' ability to track from left to right; my eyes skip and jerk It's not fluid like it was before, and I have a field of vision deficit on the right side of both eyes and my eyes are not in sync with each other, with double vision if I am tired and sometimes the right eye fades out, a lazy eye I believe. I've been working over the past 9 years to retrain my brain. I see now I need to work on my eyes also. I have since realized that information is coming at me too slowly and my brain is working so quickly that it's difficult to hold my attention so I start thinking about what I'm going to eat for lunch or the fight I had last night or ruminating. I became a neurofeedback specialist, bc utilizing NF has vastly improved my ability to read and to focus again. The single biggest thing that has helped with listening to sermons, lectures and youtube video is changing the speed in the settings!!!! Changed my life. Thank you for this informative video! I'm excited to see results!

@@sahastradhara Maybe you can think of sub vocalization as speaking a portion of the word in your mind but not fullying saying it in your head.

    • @SvenAERTS
      @SvenAERTS 4 года назад +4

@@nates9778 That's not my conclusion. I think we have to introduce a new word: internal voice and mindvoice. Internal voice is where it is possible to detect micro-movements of muscles in the throat - speech organ region. Mindvoice is that little voice you have when you reason or read but it is only in your mind region, it doesn't translate in micro-movements at the speech organ. Researchers have stuck movement detectors at the speech organ - pharynx - the throat of people and had them read. I think with SOME people they detected micro-movements all the time with others not. Those with the micro-movements do internal voice reading = you can't hear their voice, but they can hear it. It's the silent variant of people who really read out silently or in a - what results to bystanders - as a humming way. The advantage would be they get their brain to process via 3 pathways: visual, speaking it out - repeating/teaching themselves and hearing. Hopefully, this will result in not being distracted, thus keeping a higher average reading speed and retention.
When you reason about something in your mind. Don't you always have an internal voice? It is the same voice I have when reading. I think it is the equivalent of recognizing something you've seen or read before versus knowing something. Knowing is being able to finish a reasoning that was initiated and you have to continue it as some teachers do to keep students in active listening mode and get a sense of how many students are listening, studied, know the subject (e.g. from the previous year if the teacher is introducing and linking up with something that should be known from the previous years).
Reading without your mindvoice and - as some put it - "see / visualize" what the words chunks and sentences are about; isn't that also slowing down? There's a whole category of words that must be difficult and time-consuming to visualize than just reading it with your internal voice?

    • @jonnycassh7765
      @jonnycassh7765 3 года назад

@@haveaniceday7950 You use your "Photoreading abilities" everyday , especially
when watching a movie or commercial .If you put a subliminal massage in
a movie (in a single frame) that says "Buy Coke Now", a few minutes later
people will suddenly feel the need to buy Coke even though they don't know why. That's because the massage bypassed the Conscious and went
straight to the Sub-Conscious Mind, which is easily programmable .The
Sub-Conscious Mind can absorb a lot more information in a fraction of
a second than the Conscious Mind.
PhotoReading and Zox Pro (aka Brain Management) teach you how to
use both Conscious and Sub-Conscious together .The way I understand it
once you go through the program it will be almost difficult for any Covert NLP/ Hypnosis to be effective, there are a lot of benefits.
Does it work? ...for me I used the program 4 years before but I did not
see any results ,then tried it again one night I then suddenly dreamed of
the book I photoread that inspired me to practice some more with other
books, I've used words that were not part of my vocabulary .
I'm still learning how to Zox (or Photoread) .The first time I gave up
was because I could not relax my Mind and get it into a "State of Alpha",
also did not really understand what intuition was, I could not resist looking at the words (and sub-vocalizing) because the moment you do that your just speed reading, and not in an Alpha State which is like your daydreaming but
at the same time really forcused. Speed Reading is only used after you Photoread a book to Activate or Trigger the information . The are different methods in which the information can be activated like writting , mind mapping or having a convesation about the topic or book , 3 or 10 years later, even though you did not active the book the information. The information will
flow as if you read the book many times. This is according to the Zox Pro
Course and Photoreading Course . Both courses are good but my favourite
is the Zox Pro (Brain Management) .
